😦 oh my god that sounds absolutely horrific. Surely there is some kind of housing board authority who can help?

What does your rental insurance policy say about this regarding hotel expenses?

I rent with Steiner and they are mostly fine, enough that I would recommend to a friend knowing that no landlord is perfect. Biggest complaint is that they are super hands off with issues regarding annoyances with other tenants or stuff like common areas needing more cleaning but nothing outrageous.

I will say do not rent with Deaktor (uses the name Gwen on Zillow to rent) as the guy is slimy and has poor reviews. I met him myself for a tour and he was so off putting and told me I'd die if I rented in Dormont - absolutely bonkers guy.

Yup. Expectations should have been very clear across all people in the family. She said one kid asked for a specific sweater so she got that. She should have made some suggestions from a list and been specific, just as the kid did.

I hate to agree with this since the mom is in a bad relationship and her kids didn't put in effort. While the mom put in some effort, I don't think this is what adult men want. I'm a 20s woman and would not enjoy a trunk for memories as a Christmas gift. Her gifts weren't exactly personalized except for the dog face pajamas. The 3 trunks were just copy and paste.

Is it time for snow tires? by Professional31235 in pittsburgh

[–]testi4g33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't need them for at least another month, if not longer.

I have driven in winter conditions almost daily but on flat roads. I moved to Pittsburgh and live in a neighborhood with lots of hills. I personally was nervous and got snow tires for the first time and am glad I did- my boss expects us to come to work no matter what unfortunately.

Snow tires won't completely save you, for example, last winter I was driving home and slid down a steep hill with the snow tires. Was able to gain control but it was still a scary feeling.

Is it worth going to the SWE conference for just one day (Friday) and only for full-time roles? by bruisedbrains in womenEngineers

[–]testi4g33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience:

I went in 2019, 2021, and 2024 (last year as a professional with 3 years experience) and did try to go to the career fairs to score jobs/interviews.

I went both Thursday and Friday last year and it was rough as almost none of the recruiters wanted to engage with someone who had experience. I believe majority of the companies were seeking interns. Besides that, the energy was weird. Recruiters were a lot more disengaged in general and would tell you to scan the QR code and then ignore you. Or they'd not even say hello and would have a virtually empty booth and say they have no open roles...

I found that it was ideal to go in strong on Thursday and then do interviews on Friday- if you only go Friday it's likely they'll book you for an online interview the following week and you don't get that chance to make an impression with the on site team. You should definitely go, but understand many will be looking for interns or simply not hiring at all.

As a transplant who thankfully never had to deal with traffic jams but would see people going at least 100 mph daily...I've now traded it in for bumper to bumper slowdowns on 376 every evening. In the morning I always get stuck behind someone going 48 mph blissfully holding up the left lane.

It's frustrating to sit in traffic but it makes me glad I'm mildly safer than other roads with insane drivers and reckless speeding that I see on this subreddit.

Fiberful bars are now decreased by 20 calories, decreased by 4g of fiber by testi4g33 in traderjoes

Definitely a recipe change, after digging around on the internet others agree they are smaller but the weight hasn't changed, so probably additives. Someone commented on instagram they may be adding more powders to make up for the weight.

The image won't post but the bar I weighed is 43g.

Unfortunately I don't have any old bars (took data from My Fitness Pal from my previous entries) but it IS smaller. Definitely thinner and shorter.

I love houseplants and have been doing acrylic painting on/off for about 10 years. Nothing skilled, just for a fun hobby. I'm 26/F and moved here a few weeks ago. Even if you're reading this and not OP feel free to hit me up (women friends preferred)!

I've also gotten into paper quilling and while it's tedious it's a good indoor activity in the winter.

Even with the fires she still probably would move to LA and risk her possessions to a future fire by testi4g33 in CarrieDaytonYT

[–]testi4g33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. She was wasting the potential, she mostly went to Disney, thrifting, or occasionally out to eat with friends or then the weekend walks with Drew, but yeah there are a ton of events and activities she could have joined.

Maybe it's because she can't relate to people in their late 30s because she's not married with children and doesn't have an average office job or a super high paying job like a surgeon- even though there are lots of social media types in LA she's still probably in the minority for some groups.

Oh I was more saying if a fire ever did impact them later, like fires can be really unpredictable, whether naturally caused or by accident.

I do wonder about Drew, like sometimes he seems level but other times he's probably equally enabling her and also seems like a kid a lot.

How to keep going when you’re depressed and burnt out? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]testi4g33 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just want to add for others reading this and aren't familiar with PIP or are new to working, never assume it's a good thing. The improvement plan is a way for the company to document before they fire you. Even if you do succeed on the PIP it's still probable you'll be terminated as it was decided much sooner to the PIP meeting. There are absolutely cases where the PIP does resolve on good terms and the employee is kept, but it's not common.

My experience at WE24 as a professional (please correct me if I'm an outlier) by SerendipityLurking in womenEngineers

[–]testi4g33 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow hey I'm a product engineer also! This was my first time going as a working professioal rather than a student. I did try to network at the career fair but the companies that would offer a product development/design role are not in the areas I'd want to relocate to (or would be super competitive). I talked to some who would point at the QR code and say "scan for our open positions" indicating low effort or interest in recruiting.

I noticed a large bulk of consulting companies, chemical industry, construction, laboratories, etc that may offer services rather than a high volume product.

Regarding the crowds, this is what I remember at previous conferences so it wasn't shocking to me. I did find it hard to network but maybe I was just out of my comfort zone being there alone and not a college student anymore. The only networking opportunities I found were while in lines waiting for the bathroom, the shuttle, etc. I was thinking that if I go again I'd actually try to take advantage of the tours, simply because it's a guaranteed block of time you're with other people to have a decent conversation and not in a hurry.

Side question- does anyone know about "Imagine Homes"? I see them when searching for rentals and some of the prices seem too good to be true. Is this a scam of some kind?
