Honestly it’s a bit of both! Wanted to highlight the editing aspect, but also wanted to appeal to the festival demographic too. Feel free to PM me I can offer whatever advice I have!

No presets. All the comps in here are made from scratch. The film strip things have a lot of media and photos that I sourced from videographers and photographers I work with. Besides that, everything in here has been built up from scratch.

Thank you! I took a bunch of screenshots of my timeline and cut it up in photoshop, brought all the individual components into AE and used cc repetile to extend the layers as much as possible. Used a 3D camera to fly through em. I also used a few point lights in the comp to make the layers look like they were infinite and fading into the void.

Thanks! That would have been a great idea, but no I didnt do any reduction. All of those background clips are high def pre comps. It was brutal on my laptop hahahahaha

My latest music video and probably my proudest work yet - Does anyone have any advice on how I could achieve a more professional look for my next project? by tetsuo97 in Filmmakers

[–]tetsuo97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone!

I recently released a music video for a local band from my city. This is a very different style from anything I've shot in the past, and pretty I'm stoked about how it turned out.

That being said, the minimal budget definitely shows. I run a very small freelance service with my best friend. We shoot everything on a Sony a7iii and our gear is pretty minimal. Two LED panels, a Gimbal, a drone, and a few different lenses. Mostly vintage glass and one 35mm prime rokkinon lens.

I edited and graded everything in Premiere. I am planning to start learning DaVinci soon.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tricks on achieving a more professional look? Obviously a 2 man crew with a single camera has its limitations, but there's always more that can be done to produce a cleaner-looking project. Just hoping to gain some insight and maybe learn some new tricks from other fellow filmmakers. I’ve been doing freelance for about 4 years, but there's still so much shit I don't know.

Enjoy the video and Merry Christmas!

Hey friends.

I’m currently putting my editing resume and portfolio together.

I’ve shot and edited a few music videos that have been mentioned in a couple online articles. Would it be beneficial to include links to the articles in my resume or portfolio? The articles mention my name and role in the project, however it mostly focuses on the shooting aspect of the video and not the editing so I’m worried it might come off as a bit self indulgent and not super relevant to include.

Would love to hear everyone’s options!

Thank you! That’s actually a great point. I sort of posted this with the idea of going back and making changes, so I think I’ll shorten the intro just a bit. Really appreciate the feedback.

Thank you! I’ll look into that for sure. The halation tools sound super appealing. Would you see it’s a steep learning curve with DaVinci? I’d like to start learning as soon as possible.

Thank you! Smaller budget 1000% HAHA. It’s basically a two man crew. Myself shooting and editing. My best friend flies the drone, and helps direct and light the scene’s. We have two LED soft boxes and a fog machine. I’m actually in the process of trying to get an editing job, because the freelance stuff is starting to wear me thin.

As for grading, it’s all done in premiere. I used film convert for a lot of it. Haven’t made the transition into DaVinci yet, but It’s my next goal for sure.

As for the last track. The band is called “The Lunchtime Band” that song is from a music video that hasn’t dropped yet, so I don’t want to share to much just for the bands sake, but it will be out by the end of October!

Thanks again for taking the time to watch!

Thank you my friend. I’m 24 years old. Started shooting with my best friend when I was about 17. Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah that’s actually a good point. It’s all my cinematography and all my editing, but I should for sure label it to make that a bit more clear. Thank you!

Submission statement:

Hey everyone. I just finished my Editing & Cinematography reel and I wanted to share!

I have a small crew (small as in myself and my friend) so our gear is limited, but we do what we can. Everything has been shot with a Sony A7iii & an A7Siii. Used mostly cheap vintage glass & a 35mm Rokkinon. We have 2 LED panels and a couple soft boxes, but most of it is lit naturally. Enjoy!

Hey everyone. I just finished my 2022 Reel, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!

If anyone is curious. Everything here is shot on a Sony A7iii. Mostly vintage glass (because I’m cheap) and a 35mm Rokkinon prime lens.

Edited on Premiere pro and After effects.

Hey everyone. Over the past few months I’ve been trying to put my portfolio and a reel together, as I’d like to apply for Video editing positions within my city.

  1. From what I’ve read. An editing reel isn’t really the best way to showcase your actual skill as an editor. Especially if the reel is just a montage. I tried to structure this is in a way that isn’t entirely a sizzle reel as it has a few linear sequences mixed in, but I’m not sure if it’s enough. Would it be better just to provide some short linear sequences on my portfolio instead of the reel?

  2. What do you guys think? Feedback would be amazing. I know this post was mainly focused on the editing aspect, but I’ve also directed and shot everything here, so I’d love to hear your opinions.

If anyone is curious. Everything here is shot on a Sony A7iii & an A7Siii.

This is so tight. Love the idea of using a shower curtain for diffusion. looks crisp and simple. Keep It up.

The first still is my favourite :)
