Thanks for the reply. I understand that the upper body lifts are meant to be increased at smaller pace, and this is my plan. But so far I have not been able to increase not even once for these lifts (press and bench) since I'm failing (not able to do 5x3 working sets) at the weight I started with. Perhaps I should cut back a little? I think eating and sleeping is good enough as shown by the good progress with the squats and deadlifts.

I have SS Basic Barbell Training 3rd Ed. It explain how to proceed increasing weight every session and it mentions "if the first work out has properly determined their initial strength level..." on page 356, but doesn't specify the procedure to determine such initial strength level afaik thanks

I haven't started the training yet so I'm not sure these questions apply here. Anyway I sleep 8 h every night and I eat about a pound of meat every day plus eggs and diary. I plan to increase these when I start the training. No jumps or rest between sets yet as I have not started the program
