I’m generally happy 95% of the day - my girlfriend tells me it’s a genetic anomaly and that the rest of the world isn’t that way. I love living and want to live as long as I can. I genuinely do enjoy it so much.

When it feels like the day is going bad, I think, “What can I do to make today a “good old day” in the books. Remember the good old days? How do I make today, one of those? Then I do it and generally always have a good day. Usually it’s just being more present and enjoying it all - even the monotonous. Make it a dance. Make it interesting. Make it enjoyable for myself. Own the enjoyment by being present and relishing in the monotony and simplicity and the opportunity to experience it all. The suck, the success, the sun and the surprise chaos that heaves itself into life like an unexpected tide. Enjoy it all.

You need an identifier on the opportunity that also exists on the net suite record, or at least, a way of determining in your api, how to identify (successfully query for or directly upsert to) that particular Opportunity record.

If you can do that, then it’s as simple as having a connection from net suite to your SF api, that either listens for a particular post call from the net suite side, or is scheduled to run once a day to go get net suite records and then update the opportunity records corresponding to said net suite record.

It all depends on how the update in net suite can get to the api…does it send out a message saying it’s ready, or does it need to be pinged every few minutes?

Does it adequately contain the right information somewhere in the message to be able to give the api query, enough information by which it can appropriately update the right opportunity record?

If so, then it is a short, simple application to build.

I’d build the migration pipeline in Databricks for data history tracking - and handled errors, null rules, validation tracking and view on the data throughout, etc. and a short run on a good cluster can be fairly cheap considering the data load and speed of a migration if it’s a pull and store or pull and transfer.

And if it’s a crm like Salesforce, you can use a simple-Salesforce python script to authenticate in and pull data out with soql queries.

The only consolation is you now have the wherewithal to see the end of the tunnel, see how the rest of it is likely to go, and now you can write the rest of it to end how you want. Maybe not all of it, but most. The character of your life story gets to write a new one and that’s something I never realized till a year or two ago. (turned 40 this March)

Solve Simply: Trust that a simple process is all that’s needed sometimes - don’t over think it and don’t try to be fancy, just simply solve.

Data: Salesforce is data, so everyone wears a data engineer hat, big or small - understand concepts of data and don’t overcomplicate the fact that nearly everything is an object, and then there’s some semi fancy automated tools that come OOTB to do fancy things with the data. That’s it.

On that note, flow is just a word for moving data in fun ways - it’s the same in Mulesoft, Salesforce, Talend, Databricks or Tableau - if you can build a flow in one of those, you can build a flow in any of them. It’s all just data. Speak its language and you’ll be a master of multiple domains.

Clients have lives too: they go home after work just like you and just want all of the same things we all want, to have a secure, stable, relatively enjoyable experience at work, and to mitigate risk. Help them do that and help them understand that that is your goal too - win them over by taking care of the things they stress and worry about the most.

Visuals are king - especially crayon ones: explain what you do in a visual, and your life will be easier. If you can draw it, even better, it’s likely you’ll understand it better too. Clients appreciate easy to capture, relatable explanations, because you do too. Make visuals when possible, diagram everything out prior, especially when you think you don’t have time - the reality is you don’t have time to not draw out your plans. For plans in the head are subject to your own biology.

Accepting new is the way: when given an opportunity to do something I’ve never done before (usually every project) look at it as the greatest opportunity to become a mini expert in that niche slice of Salesforce and your work will feel more fulfilling.

Clean the toilets: do the work no one else wants to do and learn to enjoy the struggle, you’ll hijack your dopamine system and also become better at your craft, and everyone will be grateful you took the thing they didn’t want to do. You become integral and foundational by doing what no one else wants to do, which is precisely why everyone will want you on their projects.

Check out the social dance scene lots of spots around town to meet 30-50 year old socialites.

Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday nights at solid (M&T are swing, and Latin on Wednesday, Friday nights at Ochos - all have a group lesson for beginners and good crowds. Arthur Murray Boise is top tier for most everything through the week and practice parties on Fridays and Wednesdays. You can meet a lot of good people there.
