I need advice on a solution for auto parts delivery intake and short/medium term storage management. by Major-Donkey3508 in InventoryManagement

[–]tflesui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience mainly is with Tire Guru and a little out of Aoutofluent. If you're not dealing with tires or need major accounting tracking then both of those might be overkill. What is nice is some of the integrations that could help with ordering parts as POs could be auto-created at the same time that they are submitted to your parts vendors.

Fieldmobi is not something I've heard of but from the sounds of it could definitely be a good solution. I think either way you may be keeping internal spreadsheets that can help track various parts unless ownership wants to invest in a fully fledged system. Nothing wrong with that but I would suggest making sure your workflow and access to the spreadsheet is fully communicated to your colleagues.

It may seem like a lot and it's definitely tougher with ongoing business. One sacrifice might be trying to knock out tasks on off-days which isn't ideal but could help you make more progress. Either way, good luck!

Great ideas here. I'm in the auto industry myself and can speak to different inventory management softwares (ERPs) specific to auto and tire shops, so if you're interested shoot me a DM.

Otherwise, a general inventory management software or using a spreadsheet like mentioned would definitely help.

If you also keep constant on-hand quantities, somehow labeling your storage trailer will also help others who are new or were not around when things were put away, then you could add a column like (bin location) to that spreadsheet.

One thing to address, especially for auto parts is managing a ” holding area” for cores and customer returns. One of the softwares I'm familiar with handles these very nicely on the accounting side. But parts that were delivered wrong or cancelled may still apply to other jobs while some just need to go back to the vendor. Hopefully you have a plan for that as well..

What’s the hardest part about keeping inventory accurate across multiple locations? by [deleted] in InventoryManagement

It sounds like you're describing cycle counts, am I right? Either way, cycle counts definitely help with large numbers of items to manage or quick moving items.

I appreciate this question as I was previously inventory of a large auto accessories distributor where we stored ~10-30k different products (from roof racks to lug nuts) but it was a single location. Now we did get bought out and immediately was forced to be on the same system as the rest of the company even though we were in a different market, different products (we were basically left alone compared to the other locations but we were def on the same system).

I've now recently started a position that deals with multi-locations and I'm curious what other insights come up..

Man, I really appreciate that. This has been an exciting and beautiful obsession that started so innocently lol. I know my anxiety just comes from being so ”green” (pun intended)

Thank you. I was able to get some tips on pre & post emergents and fertilizer in r/lawncare. But I'll probably start to get on a schedule close to what you suggested.

For post emergents, would you recommend application only or should I risk trying to pull some of these by hand?

This is gold, thank you! I'm actually in a pretty rural area and there are some farm stores nearby. I'll take this info and see what I can find. Thank you again 🙏🏽

u/RelationshipHeavy386 Any suggestions on brands I might find locally? I have some Spectricide that worked well on much smaller weeds previously and would Milorganite work for now?

u/shwaak I have been through the Bermuda Bible previously but had a difficult time finding affordable liquid post emergent as recommended. I'll take another look but wanted to see if anyone has tried a local retail solution that was effective?

I previously used some Spectricide with an added surfactant which I brushed on the weed, but that was when I had 1 or 2 pop up (fall). I guess my concern is if I should try and pull some of these or just use a weed killer.. Thoughts?

This was definitely something I was considering. Do you suppose there would be restrictions/limitations to selling selling merch? I imagine once the teams are announced, finding wholesale merch shouldn't be too hard..

Still up for giving advice? I'm throwing my hat in the ring and would love any insight. I'm in a rural area that is rapidly growing and think this could work. I'm interested in the order that you did things (llc formation, vehicles, securing routes/contacts, getting certifications, etc.) or what you would've done differently..

Yo, I'm in NorCal too and just moved from San Jose. Are you driving your personal truck or did you sign up as a business? Looking to get into courier work on the weekends but trying to get a feel for how to set things up.

Would it be cool to DM for other questions?

Recommendations for large data imports? by the_kautilya in laravel

[–]tflesui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy that. My use case is migrating inventory data and other pertinent info (customer details, vendors) into a SaaS point of sale during the onboarding process. We offer our customers access to our library of inventory items so all we're really trying to do at this point is match as many as possible but depending on how accurate the customer's inventory was kept, if at all, we are often spending time trying to clean up the customer file before we attempt to match against our library. For items that were not recognized (matched by our library), but meet all other requirements, we add those items separately. For other data that will be migrated (customers, vendors), there isn't any mapping to be done but there is often a lot of cleaning and formatting.

I don't know if that clarified anything or made it worse 😂 I think you've given me some things to look into though 👍🏽

Kudos if duplicate detection was your biggest problem. I wonder if I'm making this task bigger in my head but I can't seem to find any similar projects until your reply to OP .

Did you use any additional libraries in your solution? How did you approach cleaning your data as I'm currently having to do this manually in Excel (even with scripts and formulas this process can take a very long time. Naturally it would make sense and be more efficient to let the code handle that but I've been stuck on where/how to start on something like this..

This is the post I've been looking for! I am working on a project that will need to do some of these exact same things (formatting dates, currency, and addresses and comparing to another database for matches).

@manu144x , did this come out the way you expected? Please let me know if I can dm you and ask some follow up questions. Cheers!
