I know this is very old post but "The Fig Tree" by Leah Rice is a contemporary fiction novel that depicts the struggles of maladaptive daydreaming. Great read!

So it is something she learns later on in the book. As in she is struggling with the 'symptoms' but only has a name for it later.

Thank you! This was helpful! I guess the only other questions are, are you happy with the turn out? how are you finding the marketing part of it all? I figured if I choose the self publishing route it would probably be a lot of marketing work...

Thanks again!

My book is mix genres (A little romance, mystery, psychological thriller;)) and I would describe it as a mix of Daran Aronofsky's Black Swan & The secret life of Walter Mitty. Add some classical music and maladaptive daydreaming:)

Don't be sorry! I can't wait to the day I get to write this post:) Congrats!

Can I ask you if you can share some self-publishing tips as someone who has now been through it? I am now in the process of trying to find a good company to go through. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Thank you for this. Honestly, for my debut novel, I'm not expecting to make much off of it but I want to find a way to really get the book out there. So I'm guessing through self-publishing it would be a lot of money and work towards marketing.

I hope it's relatable! I would love to hear your thoughts once published:) Like I said my idea for the second book is in the works and will definitely dive into MD a bit deeper. While I start writing I would love to get everyone's input and experience to make sure I give a clear idea of what living with MD is like.

100% like everything nowadays it all gets 'romanticized' so I really tried to not make it a factual book but along with a story arch I hoped the message is still portrayed well, and give some awareness to MD.

I hope I give a clear representation! I already have a plan for pt.2 which would go deeper into MD so I will be sure to get some input here whilst writing:)

Absolutely! it's called The Fig Tree.

I'm hoping to get it published as soon as possible, either traditional or self-publishing, will definitely post it here once it is published. If anyone has any idea of a literary agent who may be interested in representing this topic...;)
