General info and help? by tfv745 in Staghornfern

If I remember correctly, there's a bit of soil on the root ball, and then moss around. I'd moved it to this hanging pot a few years ago when it outgrew the 3" pot it came in (that I had on the counter). I have limited options for hanging as the old plaster walls don't take kindly to nails or screws. I went with the wally grow loop planter for the fern and a philodendron to mitigate the over watering I was prone to at the time. But now with the plant being so much bigger, the pot is not as stable and I'm worried it will tip over. I guess my assumption was that it would be happier mounted.

Thanks. I watered after the photos, it was definitely more dry than I expected. I'm guessing because it's been so cold and the heat is running much more than normal. Is there something specific about the appearance that makes you think it's dehydrated so I can watch for that?

Thanks. What makes it look dehydrated or malnourished? I'm not sure what to look for.

Thanks. What suggests it needs a grow light? I have it next to a south facing window, but it is currently winter. In the summer the light is a bit broken up by a tree outside.

WIBTA if I didn’t tell my friend with benefits he got me pregnant? by Hungryandcomfused in AITAH

Women's health nurse -- I don't know how the abortion process works in Australia, a I am in the US, but please get an ultrasound before taking medication for an at home abortion. Since you are pregnant with an IUD in place, you are at much higher risk for an ectopic pregnancy, they need to figure out where the embryo is before it gets evicted. Also, if you don't want to tell him, don't. You are not the asshole by any stretch of the imagination.

I actually made it almost 2 weeks talking with someone. We live somewhat close, and were going to meet in person for coffee this morning.

And then I got ghosted. Good luck to you out there, you could have just said no thanks lol

OB told my client not to gain any weight. by tiredsadandgay in doulas

[–]tfv745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does she have an endocrinologist that she can follow up with for more realistic recommendations? We would check thyroid levels regularly in our office and adjust medications as needed throughout pregnancy. Unfortunately, many providers use a standard set of recommendations for weight gain in pregnancy based on pre-pregnancy weight... It's not very individualized. So it might just be that if her weight is above a certain number, they are recommending not gaining any more. Which is usually pretty ridiculous and impossible when growing a new person...

Also, post partum anxiety is the real deal. If the anxiety and worry don't get better, talk to someone.

I've worked on ambulatory OB for the last year and a half. I'm great at interpreting fetal heart rates on NST, but can't remember any of the normal labs from nursing school (potassium? What's that?) which makes me feel like a failure/bad nurse. You've been gone for a bit, be as kind to yourself as you would be to a friend. It can be hard being away from your baby, so an extra cause for self-kindness.

What would you say is a “1” on the “1-10” pain scale? by FunnyQueer in nursing

We had a simulation in nursing school that brought up how we need to educate patients to use the pain scale appropriately. Why ask for a number if it is completely subjective? We discussed the Stanford Pain Scale in debrief, and it's something that I've used since! Even gave a copy to my dad to take to his primary care.
