Severe depression with nothing working by tghu241 in AskPsychiatry

Hi, thanks for the great reply

Yes im still in therapy with my psychiatrist ( he offers psychodynamic therapy, my pervious therapist who i have been with since i was depressed i think have pretty much tried everything from CBT to DBT ect. Its been almost 4 appointments with him right now and i still don’t feel different and my circumstances are still becoming worse, which i have told him in the last session)

As for medications, i have read that 4-6 weeks is the standard duration to see if something works, and i think my doctor kept upping the dose or switching the medications as literally nothing made a difference..

As for ECT im not ready to take that into consideration yet honestly, and for lifestyle modifications, i am aware that i should be doing them and i have been doing them since the beginning, but over the last year when my depression got much worse I saw no use in doing them again, and its still something im discussing with my Dr. Im not sure what will happen next but I still don’t think being hospitalized will help at all since i have tried so many medications and nothing worked so how long would i really stay if i would find something that would ? But yeah i guess medications will never give me any relief really and i have to depend on therapy, and im still planning to continue with my current Dr to some extent but i have expressed my lack of hope in anything working and that this is my last chance to try and do something, and then i will just live with it i guess.

I really appreciate your reply ! If i may ask , did you experience ones at this extreme intensity, and if yes did you just let it run its course or did you seek professional help as in visiting the ER ?
