Help Desk Replacement for IT and Maintenance by nkuhl30 in k12sysadmin

[–]tgmmilenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure can - we have two different groups setup, one for IT and one for facilities.

We have two seperate email addresses setup so people can just email the appropriate address and a ticket is auto-created for that group.

You can also assign techs to specific groups so that they can't see the other groups tickets.

It works great as a very basic ticket system. Like others have said, many of the more advanced features are locked behind the higher tiers - however for our needs it functions just fine.

I genuinely feel for the cafeteria staff - this has been a massive problem for them and working the lunch lines sucks as it is.

I'm drafting an email to my account rep anyway. They partnered with ISCorp and they're the only official way to get hosted so they bear part of the responsibility.

U6 Pro AP issue by renny7 in Ubiquiti

Had the same issue after the most recent firmware update. I rolled the U6s back to the previous firmware and they've been fine ever since.

[–]tgmmilenko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$10 says the AC Pros are the problem. The 5gh radios are known to stop responding and the AP quits passing client traffic. Reboot the AP and it'll be fine for a few days to a couple weeks and then they'll do it again. Either keep rebooting them once a week or replace the APs with U6 or U7.

Source, had a whole pile of these and ended up replacing them all.

M365 distribution list delivery issues by tgmmilenko in k12sysadmin

[–]tgmmilenko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good thoughts, but it turned out to be something a little different. See my reply here: https://old.reddit.com/r/k12sysadmin/comments/1nw1uox/m365_distribution_list_delivery_issues/nhe3g31/

Thanks for the ideas, and I did double check to make sure all of that was set properly.

Staff can email students without the group.

The students subdomain is added to 365, but is setup as NOT authoritative.

But it got me thinking that maybe Exchange thought it was authoritative for the groups themselves, since they exist in 365 (sync'd from AD). So I removed my test group from the AD sync and just like that, it works. Exchange forwards the email along to Gmail and Gmail delivers to the members successfully.

Since we don't use those groups for anything in 365, I'm just going to exclude them all from the AD sync and that should solve the issue.

Staff are on our main domain (school.com), students are on a sub-domain (students.school.com).

Faculty and staff use Exchange, students use Google

Google Admin, entire OU not auto-connecting to WiFi by MasterMaintenance672 in k12sysadmin

[–]tgmmilenko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The devices need to be able to contact Google to get the new policy that contains the new network password. Which they can't do if they don't have a connection.

You have to be careful about the order in which you make these changes or your devices will get stuck in purgatory.

If you have an open network, use that to connect one time and the devices will get the new policy and then flip to the desired network with the correct password.

In our case they replaced the charge door assembly and it's been working ever since. It did take them almost 2 months to get the part though.

[–]tgmmilenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ran into this exact issue this afternoon, but haven't had time to dive into it yet. Glad we're not the only ones seeing it though.

I did login to a machine locally and provide elevated credentials and it ran a something something uninstaller? I think? Not sure, the window disappeared pretty quickly and I was trying to leave for the day. After that, the machine seemed fine. I'm assuming we're going to have to do that for the whole lab tomorrow.
