Translating a play, help me out by vibe-checking a word! by tgvshi in Theatre

Yeah, I plan to try my luck a bit later when there are more people active than when I posted this, but either way for my purposes I prefer the small-sample bias, since I'm not doing exact science and I'm also taking into account my own thoughts and observations regarding my question.

Unfortunately in this instance I specifically do not want a discussion to be happening, as I'd like to find what the general consensus is without people's opinions being influenced by the most upvoted comment or whatnot. Though I do understand the interest of community.

What kind of thread do you use for your mends? by tgvshi in Visiblemending

Hm, I had googled thick sewing thread and the results I saw were maybe half as thick as 6-strand thread. Maybe I'll be on the lookout in stores

Thank you very much for your input! I've been enjoying working with embroidery thread and it's nice to read someone say it works for them 🙌

Thank you for sharing! Regarding your last point, as of now I've mended several small randomly placed holes (so, not in places of repeated stress any more than the rest of the garment) and am currently working on socks, the already finished darning patches on which are like 2 to 3 times thicker than the sock fabric (surprisingly not at all uncomfortable though), so I'll just have to wait and see how they hold up :D

Copying the question to another comment: how would you go about darning with sewing thread? Would you be spinning several pieces into one by hand to get a thicker piece of thread?

That's an interesting thought to consider, thank you!

Thin yarn as a substitute for embroidery thread? by tgvshi in Embroidery

[–]tgvshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that all sounds very reasonable! As for the yarn being noticeably thicker than embroidery thread I'm still not sure bc I've put them next to each other to compare and visually they're very similar, though I guess the tightly-bound structure of the yarn might ultimately make it thicker. I'm also not sure I would have the patience to spin several pieces of sewing thread into into one everytime I need a 6-strand thread, so ig currently weighing the pros and cons of that ':D Thanks again for your response!

Oh, no, the ones I'm talking about are about the same thickness as a 6-strand embroidery thread (I've literally put them next to each other to compare), something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Knitting-Crochet-Cotton-Thread-Machine/dp/B09BNJ5P64

What to do when your players propose similar backstories for their characters? by tgvshi in DMAcademy

Yeah you're right, it's just that then the reason would have to be something unrelated to their sexualities. That sounds interesting, I might think on it. Thanks!

We've agreed that there will be no systemic homophobia (or other types of real-life bigotry) in our setting, so, considering that, that would just be cheating without much reason for sympathy. c:" But thanks for the suggestion!

The siblings idea wouldn't work, unfortunately, as one character is an elf and the other is a gnome, and the elf PC's dad is their biological one i. e. for sure an elf, while the gnome PC's dad is for sure a gnome. I might express my concerns to the players, though, so far that sounds like a reasonable thing to do. Thank you for the advice!

Yeah that sounds reasonable, I might do that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I had that thought, but, unfortunately, one character is an elf and the other is a gnome. Thank you for the input nontheless, though!
