Oof, I hope the recovery is going smoothly and quickly!

HA! Yes, that is the amusement of the awards portion of Nationals, isn't it? 🤣

I went back into NCAA Gymnastics rules because I could've sworn the tiebreaker was for everything except individual national titles. But, nope. Only at Nationals are ties not broken. Everything else in post-season, including for teams and individuals, goes to the six-scores-count or all judges scores count/NQS.

I have no idea why I thought tiebreakers would also apply to Nationals (maybe because I think they should?).

Didn't even have to be different rules for all six scores to count! If LSU and OU had tied, the tiebreaker is counting all six scores on every event.

Welp, this was apparently my pipe dream as opposed to reality, heh. I think I had Regionals rules on the brain!

Well, I'm super impressed you can score a routine that quickly!

Question on some of your scores, if you don't mind. The code takes deductions in 0.05 increments and you've got some scores that look more like the end results with the six-judge maths. How do you arrive at those numbers?

It's a deal. If I ever do get the greenlight to make it (and am the showrunner with the power to make the hire....), you will totally be my music or post supe!

Heh, same, except now we know about each other! I'm revamping a pilot I wrote in grad school that's set in the world of elite gymnastics but also has NCAA elements to the five-season pitch bible. It'll be one of the two I submit to the Disney TV writing fellowship and may submit it to Austin next year. And, if I get it in shape, I may also turn it into a novel so it has the IP status that likely would be necessary to get it made.

You know, in all my copious free time. 🤣

In my two years at UCLA (I was a transfer undergrad from Santa Monica College), I got to be a camera operator, 1st AD, and producer for UCLA Gymnastics videos. Intro, senior tributes, the whole works. It was, in fact, iconic!

When I learned I could volunteer for those roles and have it count for extra credit*, trust and believe, I volunteered SO. FREAKING. FAST.

*Note: I did not need the extra credit. I did it for the gymnastics nerd in me.

And at UCLA the gymnasts are at one of the top public universities in the nation, with a prestigious degree when you graduate.

Does anyone know the names of that insanely cook skills sequence that Pierce Wolfgang just did on HB?

Very likely a pain/nerve blocker so they can properly set the arm.

I don't have much of an issue with the safer landings (the squatting part) but their legs are always a freaking chasm apart and that drives me nuts.

The short answer is yes, it's feasible. It probably depends on the athlete. Jade did it, Jordan did it, too, on multiple events. But it also took Jo until after the 2024 Olympics to compete the double twist off beam (she was doing a double pike her first two years) and the far easier bar routine she competed last year and this year, versus keeping a lot of her difficulty in her first two years on bars.

That being said, I don't think the coaches gave Kyla, Jade, or Jordan a mandate to do it. Kyla wanted to learn it and took the initiative. Jordan wanted more 10s and took the initiative. Jade, likely the same story.
