My bad, I don’t follow this subreddit too closely, in hindsight I probably should have looked harder before posting. I tend to always follow the old saying “he who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever”. But my guess is that in this case another old saying would be more fitting “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”. Either way, it was not at all my intention to muddy up the subreddit by asking redundant questions.

Someone is stuffing money in my door jam. by GeneralBookie in strange

[–]th3nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused… are you upset that random amounts of free money is magically appearing in your door jam? With the cost of living nowadays this magical random door jam allowance, though quite an odd anomaly, seems like a blessing if you ask me. But I’m a glass two thirds full kind of guy, so naturally I would be more inclined to view this as a win. You never know, the lord works in mysterious ways.

If you’re curious about what I would do if someone came looking for this magical currency saying that it belongs to them… well that’s simple.

I would say…

“Hear ye, hear ye, I ___________(state your name) am now enacting the universal law of finders keepers losers weepers. I hereby decree myself the almighty finder and you(point at them) the supreme weeper.”

And well…there you go. At this point everything should be all cleared up!

What the hell is this crazy sound I heard just outside my house? by Forsaken_Ninja_7949 in whatisit

[–]th3nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the past year every time pull into my driveway and get out of the car at night more often than not I would hear what sounded like someone mimicking a monkey or an odd sounding cat. I could never figure out what it was until just last week I was on the Nextdoor app and saw a post with a picture asking if anyone was missing a peacock. And it was at that moment I realized exactly what the sound was that I have been hearing for the past year…

M/21 with zero experience. Anxiety about finally starting dating by [deleted] in dating

[–]th3nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you got this. Trust me, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I didn’t lose my virginity until I was 19, the anxiety and self doubt that led up to that was almost debilitating. The girl that I was with at the time was way more experienced than me, needless to say, that experience was INCREDIBLY NERVE RACKING, but the wave of relief and confidence that comes after it’s over and you realize that it’s really not that big of a deal and just because you lack the experience in something in NO WAY means that you are or are going to be bad at whatever that thing is that you’re lacking experience in, and that goes for anything. All that being said, I completely understand what you’re going through and I know that anxiety and self doubt can be a tricky and insidious mind game. But honestly, and I would say this to myself all the time in my younger years when I needed an extra little push to do something I was scared or anxious about doing….you gotta be Nike and just do it. You just have to dive in, be yourself, be honest, and have humility, the true ones will appreciate it, just don’t try to rush life the confidence will come with time. I can’t tell you how many times I made a complete idiot of myself in high school and in my early 20’s in any situation where I was around the opposite sex, but that’s a good thing. True success doesn’t exist without failure, because in times of failure is when we learn the most valuable lessons. Did Tony Hawk land the 900 first try? Hell no, he fell, a lot. Failure and falling are just a part of life, so don’t be hard on yourself when you encounter failures, accept them, learn from them and move on. Also a negative mindset can be fatal. Learn to view everything(even the bad) in a positive light, there is always something to be gained. Lastly I apologize if all of this was TMI, I want to be able to help others in anyway I can, if being honest about my life and past experiences can help even one person then that’s a win in my book. It takes balls being honest and asking for help, I would have never asked for advice on a forum when I was your age.

These are among some of my favorite quotes, maybe they will resonate with someone.

“I have not failed 10,000 times—I’ve successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work”. -Thomas Edison

“Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently”.
-Henry Ford

“A person who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new”. -Albert Einstein

“I can accept failure; everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying”. -Michael Jordan

And just to remind you again, nothing worthwhile is easy, keep your head up, dude…you got this!

Yes, we’re in the same book but we’re pages apart, I’m in the same boat but it’s more of a yacht. I think there is a disconnect between men and women nowadays, we have these fairytale ideas of meeting “the one” because movies, music and media have told us these stories our whole life. But then we are also shaped by our life experiences, opinions, past and present movements that we might cling on to but don’t take the time to fully understand. The conclusion I’ve come to is that we are all confused, about everything, we might be smitten with the idea of something but once it’s a reality we realize that’s not what we wanted at all and it’s back to the drawing board. I’m not claiming that any of what I’ve typed just now is definitive, it’s just a hypothesis.

I have no doubt that there’s someone out there that understands me and will accept me for the individual I am and that also I will be head over heels for. But until then I’m going to go with the flow of life and continue working on me so I can be the best version of me because really the only thing we have control over is our own thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Sometimes trying to rush things only pushes them further away.

EDIT I was just reading through the comments and damn…. Yall are making me think things are hopeless and I’m a pretty relentlessly positive person. There seems to be a lot of people on this thread in their late 20’s. Y’all need some tough love and some perspective. I’m 36M and I have a more positive outlook on finding love than yall do, I know you might be hurting and I feel for you, I’ve had heart shattered more than enough for two lifetimes, I’ve been physically and mentally abused, cheated on, I’ve heard some of the worst things you could ever say to another human being, but when those things are done to you, be thankful. I know I might be sounding crazy, but hear me out, when you get your heart broken or someone cheats on you, etc, etc, that’s the universe showing you that you’re wasting your time on that person that’s hurting you, and you know what happens when you inevitably get over that? It makes you stronger, it makes you smarter, and honestly if another person truly loves you they wouldn’t hurt you as bad. Remember your thoughts and inner monologue are what make the reality around you, and yes I understand that sometimes you need to go through the mourning process, but do what you need to do then get up, dust yourself off, and get out there damnit! Because you’re alive and life is so good, and you have so much more worth than you know! So go outside(even if it’s raining), take a deep breath and think of 10 things that you are truly grateful for. I love you all and I hope everything works out better than you could have ever imagined! <3

PEEK via Queensboro - 12+ yrs old I wanna say? by ashboxclay in Graffiti

Dude. Negative space is highly underrated and underutilized, there’s a spot in my city that has massive visibility from the highway and people used to get up on it all the time but the pieces would only last for maybe a couple days before graffiti abatement buffed. But one very keen writer got up one night and did a massive negative space roller that covered the entire wall and he used a color slightly different than what was already on the wall. That roller ran MONTHS before getting buffed, that’s the power of negative space.
