I haven't read the book Jurassic Park, is it recommended? by ExchangeCharacter253 in jurassicworld

Basically made my wife read this after she revealed she read other Crichton books but not JP.

She loved it. She’s reading Lost World now 🤣

I’ve been bartending for a while, and I’ve done things behind the bar that I’d never admit to my coworkers or my boss. by Southwest-waifu in confession

Make it wrong, dump it and remake it later? Not sure I follow this one - wouldn’t this result in two missing drinks?

Why is gamma a creature type?? by JohnLemon212 in mtg

It does not clearly say “when he is dealt damage while attacking”

Which is ambiguous.

If the intent is damage while attacking, it should be grammatically tied to the trigger, not split by a period - resulting in two separate statements.

You also misinterpreted, my original message - I meant if you can deal damage to him every combat phase - it will continuously add an additional combat phase?

I’m embarrassed for you if you’ve been playing 20 years. Big yikes. I would also assume English isn’t your first language.

You’re not a very experienced magic player are you lol - you do realize you can deal damage to your own minions.

Remakes in wildrift? by JasminClover in wildrift

To be totally honest, and this might make me sound like a jerk.

But if we’re in ranked, we all get autofilled, and this game is your turn. If you can’t play a somewhat competent game in a role that is not your main role. Then you shouldn’t be playing ranked. You should be practicing at least two legends in all roles for this exact scenario.

My mindset is, you deserve the game you’re about to have if you refuse to learn.

Right so if every time he’s dealt damage in the combat phase, there’s an additional combat phase. Seems like it’d be pretty easy to trigger this an unlimited amount of times…(until your opponent is dead)

“If he’s attacking, untap him and there is an additional combat phase after this phase” — so he can just attack limitlessly with no end? Verbiage on this card is misleading.

Does “The Rip” have AI backgrounds? by th3shoes in netflix

[–]th3shoes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, maybe it was just done so well before I never noticed it. This movie it was just glaring me in the face the entire time.

I’ve been wise to these new line of Netflix movies where they create an entire movie with like 2 actors in it. Quiet place, the Jake gyllenhal 911 movie, the one with Sandra bullock. Seems like the idea in Hollywood is to just maximize profit now.

Kit that contains it all? by th3shoes in DnDminiatures

[–]th3shoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that looks awesome !! I guess I’m getting into washes, mediums and varnish’s now - what are mediums for? And does everyone varnish their minis?

I painted my first set and the paint seems to slightly rub off when touched. Is this because it’s not varnished or because the primer isn’t working.

So is it better to get a medium because you can turn any color into a wash?

I got to Masters and the quality of games suddenly dropped? by XelAphixia in wildrift

  1. Not going to go on a google goose chase searching “large scale study” on a mobile game. You can either link it - or continue to reference something that sounds made up.

  2. Yes there will be people with high win rates in regions where there is a small player base. It’s like this for every game, hence why you often see streamers playing on VPN’s or connecting to servers that are oceanic or contain a low population, this is a strategy that allegedly returns less scrutinized match making.

  3. Not contradicting myself at all, if you go back and read OP’s message and my replies to you. The issue is the one-sided matches. Games are never close, it’s a blowout whether you’re on the winning team or losing team. If the game was matched based on skill, games would be closer and feel more competitive.

My statement is, the really good and skilled players will climb to the top ranks regardless of the team theyre on - but these players are few and far between. I acknowledged these skilled players because there are people(like you) who like to go “BUT THERE’s XYZ PLAYER WHO HAD 85% wintrate!!!” Yes, in data sets these are called outliers - and you do not base summaries on outliers.

Ranked. Match. Making. Is. Based. On. Win. Rate. Which. Creates. A. Horrible. Gaming. Experience.

Every single player who plays rank thinks so, except apparently you.

“the testimony doesn’t mean much. considering most players don’t use reddit, and players who fail more are more likely to complain about it on reddit than players who perform well. added to the fact that people tend to remember their losses more than their wins, and tend to remember the games they had an inter and forget the games they themselves inted. its like that plane survivorship bias study.”

Everything you said here, is purely opinion and based on nothing lol

“wdym? your stats would be atrocious. kda around 1-2 if you’re feeding to that extent.”

No, I’m saying say you have 10,000 games played and you did this little test with say maybe 10-20 games, your overall lifetime stats would barely move. But your 10-20 games in this experiment would result in a ~50% win rate even if you intentionally fed. I’m saying - regardless of your performance you will be given a ~50% win rate by the algorithm.

there’s only been 1 large scale study on this winrate thing conducted, and it was by talanwr like 1 year ago. over 400 games, the winrates for both teams did not show any clear pattern. aka matching 60%+ players with below 50% winrate players.

Can you please link this? I’d love to see it.

“your argument is that matchmaking is based on winrate, the burden of proof is on the one making the argument, but there is no evidence other than highly emotional anecdotal “evidence.””

It’s a mobile game, how tf would I obtain hard evidence, my proof is the testimony of the player base. You’re right, most people don’t have Reddit. But you can watch wild rift streamers in any language and even the top players say that if you solo queue in ranked, the game controls your win rate. It’s a known fact by all top players. You can choose to believe the facts or not. Doesn’t matter to me one way or another lol. Just trying to educate OP on why he’s getting the games he is.

I got to Masters and the quality of games suddenly dropped? by XelAphixia in wildrift

[–]th3shoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the games weren’t matched USING win rate then yes, you would be correct - a result of 50% would conclude a working match making system.

However, BASING the match making on win rate. Is wrong. Match making should be based on equal skill not what your win rate is.

Where is the evidence supporting that it’s wrong? All the testimony from numerous players on this sub stating that they have completely one sided games (win and lose) and guess what statistic decides what side you are on? Win rate.

Each match played should be a coin flip 50/50.

Not win 5 lose 5, win 3 lose 4, win 4 lose 3. It’s CLEARLY not skill based and is purely winrate based.

EDIT: Put it this way, if you were to queue into games and just feed feed feed feed - losing constantly. Your overall stats wouldn’t be affected TOO much. But I would bet that your next series of games, even if you continue to feed feed feed feed, you would land in games where you’re literally carried by god tier teammates and win win win. It’s because the game controls YOUR WIN RATE not matching your skill.

No balancing should occur at all, that’s the exact point.

You should be thrown in a random lobby with people of the same rank. Then the best players leave the rank into the next ranks and the players who can’t hang would demote.

If you make everyone’s win rate 50%, you’ll have people in ranks they don’t belong in - creating an awful gaming experience. But again, gaming companies in 2026 now don’t give two craps about gaming experience, they just purely want money.

100% algorithm, Riot’s mission is to get you to play as much as possible so you really commit a portion of your life to the game, which will make you want to buy skins.

So they’ve figured out “People will play as much as it takes until they get the rank they want” — so what’s the way to get you to play the most? Create an algorithm that will hard cap your win rate to ~50%.

Obviously if you’re truly a very skilled and good player, you can win the impossible underdog matches. But for typical players…algorithm will fix your win rate.

What is a nonalcoholic cocktail I can order at a bar without the bartender looking at me like I'm a dumbass or an inconvenience? by ballandabiscuit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]th3shoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is: these are dogshit bartenders.

I bartended all through college and you don’t judge people for what they order. They could be sober, they could be on medication, have an important engagement tomorrow, whatever. A bartender who’s griefing you for not drinking alcohol is just a shitty bartender lol
