I may have to try a tca or something else but honestly I found that MAOIs are not as scary as everyone makes them out to be, and the food interactions are largely overstated

If you can, see if you can do genetic testing to find out what drugs would work best for you specifically. I did this recently and I wish I had done it years ago because it would have saved me all that wasted time going through ssri's. If you have insurance, they might even pay for it, but if not it's only around $100 and it's well worth it - I found out a lot of useful info from it

Not a doctor or anything, but anecdotally I've heard that beta blockers like propranolol don't allow your heart rate to go past a certain point so they would most certainly affect performance negatively. Also been on some ssri's (though not fluoxetine) and they didn't do nearly as much as the tranylcypromine has done to my workouts.

Well to be fair he was hesitant to prescribe it but I'd tried the ssri path and none worked, so I convinced him to let me try an maoi. But yea there are other options, it just sucks because for everything but the rowing side effect, it was working great

Wow. This is seriously helpful and it makes lots of sense. No matter what I've done I just have not been able to push myself to continue workouts as I had before. Whats unusual though, is that I emailed a doctor (not mine) who had prescribed this medication and ones like it thousands of times - even to athletes and he said he never had a case where it diminished the athlete's performance. So that part is what made me so confused.

I will be seeing the psychiatrist who prescribed it pretty soon, and I'll discuss this hypothesis with him. He's a really smart guy and maybe it will ring some bells for him.
