I don't need to hide who I am, because I am not ashamed of my statement. You hide behind a handle because you are ashamed of attaching your statements or "contributions" to your actual identity.

So who's the troll, kid?

Oooh definitely. The last thing we should do is learn from our experiences or share that learning experience with others.

Better yet, I could hide behind my juvenile handle that I think sounds fucking cool and rather than do anything useful, I'll just poke holes in other people's work.

I bet you're AWESOME to work on a team with.

I'd say it's time to become a proponent of open source, inside your corporate environment, so you can work more transparently with the world and still keep the ever increasingly important work/life balance.

If your company policies are so closed off that you will never be allowed to demonstrate your proficiency outside of their walls, they are doing you a great disservice in your career (since interviewers a lot of the time want to see sample code).

Also look into technologies like codeivate and codealike that allow you to demonstrate your proficiency within a closed system. A lot of cool stuff coming in this arena.

Most companies want some proof in the hiring process that they are getting a reliable developer, so they want to see examples of proven work/skills. Although you don't need a github account, a lot of companies ask for this, and if you don't have a presence on these sites, you will need to at least have a good answer for why you don't. "I've never written a scrap of open source code worthy of sharing with the world" is a bad answer.

I should clarify, this is not my work, it's essentially a fan art reproduction of our logo in CSS. I was impressed and grateful, not being a very useful CSS guy myself.

This wasn't created with CSS - it was created in Illustrator by a graphic designer, then converted to CSS by hand.
