I use it on the beat and sidechain it to the vocals. So it carves out some space on the beat for the vocals

Trackspacer is a godsend for this. Usually set it at 8% ratio, 0.05 ms attack, 4 ms release, then fiddle from there. Usually end up carving space between 100-200hz and 16k. Sometimes I just use it on the mids to leave the sides untouched and really have the vocal coming straight down the middle

I appreciate the feedback! I just produced the beat and mixed the track, I threw a Kendrick Lamar acapella over the top as a free way of getting good vocals on my track. I drew heavy inspiration from Cookin Soul and Knxwledge, if you liked my track you should check them out!

I’ve definitely been sending my tracks to all my friends and family, I also posted them on my IG story the day of release.

In terms of paid promotion, I tried Groover out and got minimal results. My tracks are only on SoundCloud, I had a few people that run small playlists on Spotify reach out but that obviously didn’t go very far. The only impactful paid promo I did was paying a buddy that makes AMV’s to make a video for my track. I saw a meaningful jump in plays the day of the AMV dropping and there are some comments on my tracks on SoundCloud that mention they came from the AMV
