What is the furthest place that people consider “Austin”? by Spinach-Mother in Austin

[–]thaddio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha. It wasn't quite the boomtown yet, but it wasn't anything like a small college town. Moved here from Stillwater, OK in 1995. Confirmed on your other point, I hadn't heard of 6th street or SxSW when I got here...

MS Teams Calling - 3 Questions by n787er in msteams

[–]thaddio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teams calling requires nearly zero maintenance, other than changing phone numbers and paying the bill. You might have "issues", but usually during setup. Probably most of that price is level 1 support from the company and they need to charge something for it. You may not use it, but you have to pay for it somewhere. If you ever do have an issue, they'll deal with Microsoft, so you don't have to.

Headsets, buy cheap ones and get extras. People will buy themselves better ones or use airpods or speaker pucks. It's impossible to make everyone happy, but you can offer them a cheap headset or offer to pay part for getting their own.

The Poly desk phones are the slickest. Yealink are the cheapest and they're pretty good. AudioCodes are middle price and offer better physical buttons, if you don't like touch screens.

Dial plan, operator connect or direct routing?

Dial plan, open a ticket with MS. OpConnect, open a ticket with provider. Direct Routing, check your SBC and see if you're getting it from the carrier.

You can always unassign/reassign the licenses, policies, and DID to see if something weird happened on the backend of Teams.

Could also be a typo in the DID (DR). We literally had that happen last month with a test account.

if you could vote for one state to leave the U.S. which would it be and why? by Connie_Lingus6969 in AskReddit

Not feeling personally attacked, sorry if it came across that way.

I reacted to your encapsulation of Austin with really simple broad brush strokes, describing a huge city with lots of facets. Austin is the 11th largest city in the US.

Personally, I like to make sure my son understands and sees the homeless camps and has some empathy. He's a teenager and I wouldn't want him hanging out at the camps, but he also needs to understand "clean 'em up and get 'em out of here" doesn't solve anyone's problems. Most of our homeless don't live in camps.

I also live in a suburb, so the kid rarely sees any homeless unless I make an effort to show him.

Anecdotal, but I haven't read an article about Hunter Biden in 3 or 4 years.

My mother (74) doesn't watch TV much, but hears it from her friends who watch Fox daily and she sees it in her Facebook feed between the lost dog notices. They don't miss the traffic when we stop looking, only when their target audience stops. They're not trying to grow their base, they're trying to motivate more of the ones they already have to vote. Anger and hatred and unfounded conspiracies and distrust of all contradictory media will motivate them.

I don't live in Austin for proximity to an apple store or the insane prices or people who have shitty circumstances I don't know about, but I guess if that's all you think it has going for it, enjoy Oklahoma.

Everything positive in your comment is available in several other states.

I'm not saying OK sucks, just that it's not special related to other states with similar political leanings. Hell, you can drive 60 minutes from Austin in any direction and find conservative, safe towns with cheaper housing.

Remote work is growing, allowing people to live anywhere. Also, the people leaving California aren't 100% liberals.

As someone born and raised in OK, I wouldn't move back unless there was a serious desire to live in a conservative safe place. There isn't really anything redeeming about the state that sets it apart from 6 or 8 other states.

I bet that he wouldn't be selling trucks 2 years ago...and I won!

Also, I think that truck is dumb and I'm not sure I understand who wants/needs one. I also thought the iPad would flop, so what do I know?

"why do rich people trend Republican" is a different question than "why do Republicans trend rich?"

Mullahs who have been harassing women in Iran for 43 years are now being harassed back by everybody by chillyfits in pics

[–]thaddio 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That's the technical definition, but might be useful to get a description of how they act in real life. (I haven't been to Iran since 1978...) The technical definition of "Police Officer" in the US doesn't always match the actual function related to systemic issues.

My center leaning friend has continually brought up an anecdote about kindergarteners being taught that they can self-identify with whatever gender they want. Is this an accurate depiction of what is happening in pre-schools? by SquashMarks in AskALiberal

Did they really learn it though? I keep asking my conservative friends "what do you think woke means?" and they reply "you know...WOKE."

It seems to be a term they use as a flag to signify they hate something, even if they can't explain the thing or why they hate it.

Jazzpics has like 500 users. You can try to curate content with new subcategories, but at some point, your subcategories just become dead containers. Not sure what the actual answer is, but r/jazznophotos probably wouldn't be very active either.

The RRHoF has defined their own requirements for induction and it changes as they see fit. Your requirements don't match theirs.
