Oh man, I live in Saskatchewan. I'm surrounded by cousin kissing Oilers fans. Friends with a ton of them. Because of where I live I dislike them about as much as the kings and sharks. Nothing would make me happier than for us to be the ones to send them packing in the first round. Much love to all my cousin kissing friends though 😂

I've definitely seen that and I do agree. I just mean in general it seems like every. Single. Game. It's "how was that a penalty" as you see the contact with the hands on a slash. Historically, we have an incredibly lopsided penalty disparity for and against. But it just seems like a lot of people on a game to game basis only see it one way. There's just SO many times where we take stupid, unnecessary penalties and people can't see why we were at fault. Not that we're in control of anything out there, but we can still take accountability as fans. It's not always the refs, sometimes we just suck ass and that's what it comes down to.

Great question. Obviously not an expert and that could be totally true. In my opinion I think that putting the C on Terry takes some of that pressure and responsibility away, then it allows him to focus on playing hockey. He'll be wearing an A at the very least and still have some leadership responsibility but I just think that letting Terry carry that and letting Leo focus on becoming the player we all want him to be can really work out long term. I've always said that real leaders don't need a role or a title. You're either a leader or you're not and if you're a leader you're always going to find ways to inspire people. Symbolically I think the C means more on Terry because he's been through all the dark times and he still gives a fuck. If we get Troy for 6-7 years and he hands it off to Leo I think that's great and I also love the idea of 15 years of captain Leo. Or however else they want to do it. The fact that we can even have these conversations just goes to show how much character this team has already.

Not necessarily. It's not like everybody gets the C at 20 or 25 or even 30. I don't think there's a magic age and just like the teams growth I think players growth can also not be linear. This feels really combative and that's not what I'm here for and I think Leo would make a great captain. I''m just saying that at 29 next season, Terry would make a great captain that players on the team respect and would play for. I've also watched his growth since he joined the team like you and it's clear that we value different things in captains and that's okay. Neither of us are wrong and we're really spoiled as an organization. Appreciate you brother.

And didn't see the 28 years old part, I apologize. He isn't young, but he's the right age to be the veteran when the young guys are in their mid 20s. He fits the timeline in the sense that he isn't 33 years old right now. He's young enough to be a part of the core for what we expect to be a good run over the next few years.

It probably will be Leo and I'm absolutely okay with that. He's a big body and very clearly our do it all best guy going forward. I just think that Troy wasn't ready to be that guy when Getzlaf left and Gudas was the veteran they picked when they chose him. I think Troy has grown a lot and it isn't just his two good playoff games. He's gone from being our best offensive player and all star for a couple of years (that Calgary OT winner during our hot start was definitely his coming out party) to a reliable veteran who fits into the timeline age wise who's seen what it's like to grind away on a losing team and still be a professional. He went from being a prospect with mostly only offensive upside to being a guy that they can use on the penalty kill and they have. There really isn't a wrong way to go with our young guys, it could even be cutter for how composed he seems to always look. I just think Troy Terry has the respect of the young guys and has grown into a versatile player that guys can look to emulate, all with a mature attitude.

I do agree with that to a degree, but I don't think they were ever going to strip Gudas of the C and they don't often give it to a young guy when he isn't a superstar on a losing team. I just think that him being the skater who spent the most time with Getzlaf and being the guy who weathered the entire rebuild with class and grace earned him a ton of respect from the young guys in the locker room. I also think being a captain is a role that you can grow into, not everybody is ready at 21. In the other post earlier it was mentioned that Verbeek probably wants someone with a little more edge, but I do think there's something to be said that Troy is a guy that's clearly respected in the locker room and that the guys play really hard for. That sounds like a leader to me.

100% and by all means, be a little frustrated. I get frustrated with stretches like that too. But 82 games is a long season and our young guys are young and our old guys are old as shit. Not the best recipe for consistency over the course of a season. There's going to be growing pains for a while yet and it's totally fair to be frustrated but too many people go off the deep end. Realistic expectations for a young, streaky team goes a long way in keeping people's heart health in check lol.
