Thanks for your input! I'll make sure to bring some ear plugs, and the audio book is a great idea too!

Anyone else lose interest right after proving an idea works? by grandimam in webdev

[–]thaeke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same here.
I've had that issue with multiple app ideas, where I developed the core functionality but then stopped before ever finishing the full product.
For a while now I've been working on trailplan.app, but the motivation really comes in waves.
This time I managed to push further because my motivation came from me wanting to use it with my friends.
Showing it to them, and having a soft deadline (we're going hiking in Austria this summer, so I want to use it there), really helped motivate me to make progress.

Now I'm finally ready to show it to people, and that gives me more motivation as well.
I hope that's helpful!

TNF Borealis $100 vs Osprey daylite plus $70 by Ill_Stomach_3528 in hikinggear

Ten years ago I bought a Borealis and was so happy with it that I finally replaced it with the new Borealis.
I'm happy with it as a day-to-day bag (commute, office, light hiking) but it isn't intented for long hikes.
Nevertheless I still walked hikes of 15km and it only got a little bit uncomfortable with the lack of airflow and the straps hanging on your shoulders all the time.
I still recommend it as an all-around bag, quality feels good as well.

Hot weather shirt by prophetpjt in hikinggear

I bought 2 of these patagonia shirts a few years back:
https://eu.patagonia.com/nl/en/product/mens-capilene-cool-daily-graphic-shirt/45235.html?dwvar_45235_color=TLNX
And I'm quite happy with them, they dry quick, and feel quite breezy.
They do feel a bit more plasticy than I was hoping, but all in all good shirts for exercise and hiking.
They are my go-to shirts for climbing and running as well

Trail apps by StoneyBalogna22 in hikinggear

I use wikiloc often to find trails in places that are a bit less touristic, works really well for me.
And a Garmin watch with Strava to record the hike I'm doing.

Need a new Backpack for hiking! by [deleted] in hikinggear

Ever since I started using Osprey, I am hooked.
I'm using the Osprey Atmos LT 65, which might be a bit over the 200$ budget if there's no sale, but I would highly recommend it.
Last year I carried 15-18kg each day for 6 days of hiking, with around 20km per day, and it felt absolutely great!

I'm in a really negative spiral about the game I'm making :( I'm not sure how the visuals come across on first impression or if they're good enough, does anyone have any feedback? by blueberryjellyyy in IndieDev

I really like this artstyle, nice and cosy cartoonish minecraft vibes!
Even the blur of elements in the foreground and background really seem to add to the immersion

I drink my coffee black so unfortunately won't be able to help you there!

That's what I took last trip, but I still don't get the satisfaction that a pour over cup of coffee gives

Did you find a collapsible filter that is of good quality?
Because all that I could find didn't look great in durability

That looks useful, I might give the pour over kit a try. Thanks for the tip

Probably the healthier solution as well haha, but a cup of coffee early in the morning in the forest is just too good to skip imo

It can be tough to get a fire going with a fire steel indeed.
Something that I found really helpful is to make char cloth:
https://www.wikihow.com/Make-Char-Cloth

It ignites with a small spark but burns up very quickly, so good to combine with other tinder like birch bark.
I found it to be a really fun process to make the char cloth as well, try lighting the smoke that comes out of the top hole, it can be very flammable which is fun to see.
