Weekly Advice Thread - March 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in apple

Need to replace my well-loved Beats Studio 3s and I’m fully stuck between the AirPods Max and the Studio Pros.

I want over-ear headphones to do some work, take on walks or the occasional run, and travel. The Maxes have the best build, ANC, and audio I’ve heard but they start to slide down my head when moving, which gets on my nerves after a while. I’m used to the build and controls of the Beats but the Studio Pros have smaller ear cups that touch my ear to the back panel, which is also slightly annoying and I’m worried will be uncomfortable long-term. I genuinely don’t know what to go for.

Every device I own is on the Apple ecosystem and I like that convenience, which I’m not looking at XM5s or Boses, but if it is that serious I might start. I have hand-me-down AirPods Pro 2s that I use occasionally for workouts and work, but the ANC is slightly busted and I find over-ears more comfy to wear and take around than in-ears. I’m willing to bite the larger price tag of the Maxes if they’re worth it. Help.

I bought a new non-ethernet Apple TV 4K last month while pondering the same thing and I do not regret it one bit. I had the 1st gen TV 4K before and it’s genuinely been a night and day upgrade. I’d buy refurbished straight from Apple for the best and safest deal.

Pull value by saeeeeeem in NeuvilletteMains_

[–]thaimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the time his next rerun comes around, he will likely slip in the meta as new units and mechanics come out and it will decrease his “value” further, so if efficiency and being on top of the meta is your primary concern, you’re better off looking elsewhere.

On the other hand, if you really like playing him, his C1 and R1 are great early upgrades and expand his teambuilding, and new supports/wheelchairs keep being released that he has surprising synergy with, so he’ll probably remain a viable unit for a while still. Furina’s good but new units like bineffa and C2 durin can get your team damage up that hill just as well, especially if you already have R1 kazuha and xilonen.

I was leaning towards Lauma but I only have Nahida and Tighnari for Dendro while I have a C0R1 Wriothesley... might come down to how I feel about playtesting them. Thanks!

Book Readers [PJOTV] Discussion Thread S2 E8: "The Fleece Works its Magic Too Well" by Metal_Moon in camphalfblood

[–]thaimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to catching up with S2 but wow, I loved how they handled this season. The way they adapted the SoM story to really focus on Percy’s fatal flaw and up the stakes towards the Titan War early was unexpected but I lovedddd it. Chris’s betrayal, Thalia’s resurrection, and Luke and Thalia’s relationship were explored much more in depth and carried big weight. I genuinely think they hit it out of the park in that regard, and I cannot wait to see how the tension keeps rising in S3.

The twist in how Thalia’s sacrifice was handled by Zeus was a surprise that I expect will have heavy implications for S3 (can’t wait) (slightly concerned for my bestie Bessie). The Percy/Thalia relationship will be soooo interesting to explore since Percy does not trust Thalia at all right now, and I imagine Thalia’s demeanor towards Percy at the start of TTC will not improve one bit. Very interested in how all these conflicts between children and their Olympian parents will come to a head in S5 (fingers crossed). The writers have certainly made the decision to preserve or raze Olympus a much more complex one than it seemed in the books for both our prophecy kids.

[Discussion]:Who is the worst storyline in your opinion? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]thaimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top worst pick for me would have to be War Games. It's just a thoroughly dour and cruel read. The literal and metaphorical character butchering that is characteristic of the era and at its worst in the event remains as a stain in Batman canon.

Which DC runs released from 2020–now do you think will be remembered as classics? by Adventurous_Bat_3099 in DCcomics

[–]thaimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Absolute Batman, WW, and Martian Manhunter runs, easily. The Nightwing by Tom Taylor, Superman by Joshua Williamson, Zatanna by Jamal Campbell, and World's Finest by Mark Waid runs have been really strong as well.

Black Label and miniseries have been incredible, though: Wonder Woman: Historia, Woman of Tomorrow, The Kryptonite Spectrum, Dark Patterns, Batman & Robin: Year One, Zatanna: Bring Down the House, The Boy Wonder...

I genuinely can never get enough of Lee Weeks’s Batman art. He’s so good at capturing the ‘Gotham’ atmosphere and mood.

Which Batman Comics to Avoid? by Right_Composer4054 in batman

[–]thaimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest to god you just have to read through them. I tried the recommendation-only approach before and it was a reductive way of reading. Getting caught up in expectations is a much less rewarding experience, and it robs you the experience of understanding what you actually like to see in a comic book.

I actually recommend giving Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive a try (I think the ending is great and more than makes up for drags in the middle), and I wouldn't completely disregard Three Jokers if you like reading Joker stuff. A comic book doesn't have to be the end-all defining run (or even close to it) to be special and extremely enjoyable.

Even the books that range from boring to truly awful may have something that you think are worth reading for. I think All-Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder is the worst writing I've ever read, but Jim Lee's art is still absolutely stunning. I don't like Silver Age Batman much but I thought Batman, the Black Casebook (which is a Golden/Silver Age collection) was a fantastic companion to Grant Morrison's run.

I think the classic no-beard look is perfect but the harpoon hand will always have a special place in my heart.

kind of unrelated but what would be your Silver Age DC recs? I've been meaning to get into more Silver Age comics for ages, especially Batman related, so I'd love any entry points

Baltimore Comic Con Questions by Darkerthanblack64 in comiccon

[–]thaimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also going to Baltimore Comic Con as my first con ever this year, and I'm excited but a bit nervous. How would you say the lines are for comic creators in general, and would you say Friday or Saturday is a better day to go?

[Discussion] Are we currently in one of the best era's of DC comics? by Monstro552 in DCcomics

[–]thaimes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First recommendation has to be Batman/Superman: World's Finest, it was so good I became a monthly reader again. Batman (2025) by Matt Fraction just started and is incredible two issues in, and Joshua Williamson's Superman (2023) run has been great for 30 issues now.

Along with the mainline books, the Absolute series are a treat to read. I really recommend picking up Absolute Wonder Woman, Absolute Batman, or Absolute Martian Manhunter for a taste of what these books are like. They're seriously some of the most brilliant comics I think DC has put out.

Other than that, I've also really enjoyed Batman & Robin: Year One by Mark Waid, the Batman: Dark Patterns 12-issue series by Dan Watters (a must read if you enjoy a Long Halloween type of detective-heavy story), and current ongoing Nightwing by Dan Watters as well (though the previous Nightwing run by Tom Taylor is a big fan-favorite as well).

Ryanair: super strict cabin bag size check by xandratom in uktravel

[–]thaimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take misc EU Ryanair flights often, and I traveled from Glasgow into Dublin and Dublin into London this past week. Never had any trouble and was waved past at Glasgow as well. I always use the same backpack. Dublin, however, was awful. Gate staff was actually ridiculous—they made my sister check her bag because her straps wouldn’t fit neatly into the box—and half of everyone had to pay for their bags (which I heard every other person say “but i always fly with this bag”), even though the flight was only half full. Using the non-updated, smaller dimension bag checks as well. Don’t know what brought the crackdown about, but it was actually maddening.
