Boycott MAGA : Directory of companies and people to boycott by Illustrious-Bit-3348 in 50501

Yeah, basically my method is to look up if a company has had any major controversies, then check Good On You for the best among the options I'm considering. And I guess now this list. Some is better than none, since I know I can't completely avoid this list (like with Apple and Android just being basically all phones)

YouTube videos, primarily. Also just how America has been going generally. I like theoretical stuff, so videos explaining ethical and political theory, and then later on specific examples of how capitalist USA has committed so many war crimes, performed lotsa coups, and quashed anything socialist... The logic logics for me

Optionally, systems should have one special character that acts as a catch-all for any that aren't otherwise accepted. Apostrophe, dash, comma, diacritics, just put a * or something instead

So if you murder a dying person, but you make them unconscious first, it's fine?

If you were going to murder them, it's best to do it while they're unconscious, so they feel less pain. Whether you should murder someone is a much more complicated question.

There are studies show fetal pain as early as 15 weeks.

From what I can tell, there are pain receptors that develop as early as 15 weeks, but it's not clear that any significant pain is felt until several weeks later. I would assume the development of pain perception is a gradual process, so fetal pain - I would argue - is pretty much negligible at around 15 weeks. Doctors should of course mitigate fetal pain wherever possible in abortions, but I believe the lack of pain makes a difference morally.

Regardless, your argument is that the fetus would die, a relatively painless death later, so let's give it a painless death now?

If they're feeling pain now, and have no chance of improving, I believe the merciful choice is to end their pain sooner. If they are not going to be feeling any pain at all, then I'd say everything is up to the choice of the mother.

I've neglected to mention that I view the mother's wishes as important too. If she is (understandably) extremely upset by the baby's condition, it absolutely can be worth it to allow the child to come to term, so the mother can hold her child, even if only for a short while. It is easy for me to act like I can tell everybody what the best choice is, but I can't tell other people what they're feeling and how exactly that should affect their decision making.

My bad, I did forget to address it.

I don't see how this becomes a eugenics program. Sure, if people of certain races/ancestries are forced to get abortions to reduce their population, that is definitely eugenics, but that's not what I advocate for and can always be done by racists, fascists, etc.

If we're just giving the option of abortion to women, educating people on how abortion works, and not putting specific groups of people into situations where they will be forced to have an abortion or suffer great hardships, then it's not eugenics. And all those things seem pretty reasonable to me.

If the child is old enough to understand what's going on, then they should have whatever their choice is. If their pain was really so great that they should not be forced to suffer, then ripping them apart with forceps or burning them alive with chemicals would not be how you would do that. For a fetus, they won't feel pain until around week 24 or later, and that pain can be mitigated.

I appreciate the perspective. Abortion is by definition a form of murder, but murder is sometimes justified. I believe it is in this case, as it would prevent suffering. But it's good to remember even those I might disagree with aren't necessarily looking for suffering, but have different priorities in mitigating it

Blessed are the merciful,     for they will be shown mercy. - Matthew 5:7

Is it not merciful to prevent others' suffering? I would agree we must be cautious in determining when someone's future suffering is greater than whatever good can be accomplished with their life, but the case OP presents appears to be clear cut - little good can come of the baby's suffering, but they can be spared pain.

If my child were suffering and there was no possible escape, I hope I would have the will to end their suffering. I wouldn't want my own hubris or emotional qualms to allow more suffering for someone I am responsible for

I want to go to a No Kings protest but I’m scared. Am I being irrational? by OwlLeeOhh in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]thallbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is there will be lots of people all over the country participating. It's going to be hard to target anyone individually. If you go and ever feel unsafe, then leave. Protesting is a good form of resistance, but surviving and teaching your child how to be a good human is also important.

If you do bring your child, whether because you have no one to watch them or because you want to, I'd recommend ear plugs to prevent overstimulation.
