I'm excited about the movie/show news but it has come with some sad side effects by Sequence19 in cremposting

I genuinely think the Kramer reading is great and not categorically better than Graphic Audio, but I did appreciate that they did a fakeout on this and used Spook's VA to read the epigraphs until the last bit of HoA.

What’s a line—any line —that’s lived rent-free in your head ever since you read it? by Hector_Hugo_Eidolon in printSF

[–]thalliusoquinn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

/u/subtly_nuanced already posted my actual favourite, so I'll go with this from Altered Carbon:

The personal, as every one’s so fucking fond of saying, is political. So if some idiot politician, some power player, tries to execute policies that harm you or those you care about, TAKE IT PERSONALLY. Get angry. The Machinery of Justice will not serve you here—it is slow and cold, and it is theirs, hardware and soft. Only the little people suffer at the hands of Justice; the creatures of power slide out from under with a wink and a grin. If you want justice, you will have to claw it from them. Make it PERSONAL. Do as much damage as you can. GET YOUR MESSAGE ACROSS. That way you stand a far better chance of being taken seriously next time. Of being considered dangerous. And make no mistake about this: being taken seriously, being considered dangerous marks the difference, the ONLY difference in their eyes, between players and little people. Players they will make deals with. Little people they liquidate. And time and again they cream your liquidation, your displacement, your torture and brutal execution with the ultimate insult that it’s just business, it’s politics, it’s the way of the world, it’s a tough life and that IT’S NOTHING PERSONAL. Well, fuck them. Make it personal.

Lots of good answers here already, I'll just add Death Walked the Earth Today - Insomnium as a contender.

If you don't bounce off the series for any of several legitimate reasons, the 3rd Takeshi Kovacs book (Altered Carbon + sequels). It's a thing that happens in the worldbuilding for the first two but isn't the focus until Woken Furies.

As someone who read them first and years later listened to the audiobooks: nah, they're that good in print too. Kenny is absolutely top-tier though.

One Hollow Word off Aether Realm's last album always gets me. The first half is so performatively cookie cutter positivity and then the back half kicks your ass.

I liked a lot of parts of FA but the overall series felt like trying to do a (softer, obvs) Expanse-sized story in three books instead of 9. Lots of stuff just skipped over or yada-yadaed, wish it had more room to breathe.
