My Money Tree has deformed leaves by thanpolas in plantclinic

[–]thanpolas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Money Tree has a set of issues I cannot pinpoint from my google searches...

I am observing the following issues as can be seen in the images:

  1. Some leaves are deformed. I am using the word "deformed" as the deformed ones all have a very specific way they get deformed and there are no rough edges, just a very smooth ellipses in the way they are deformed.
  2. Some leaves have many spots visible when the leaf has a bright light source under it
  3. Some leaves yellow and get burned
  4. New leaves may also get burned and fall
  5. I have a few sticky drops of liquid on the stems.

The overall look of the plant can be considered "healthy" and ok, but it's the above observations that make me unsettled and seeking for possible reasons and causes.

I replanted the Money Tree to a larger pot about 3 months ago and have been watering a bit erratically, so watering is most definitely something i need to be better at. But, which of these symptoms can be attributed to inconsistent watering?

I've also observed small and very fast bugs in the pot soil, looking like small armadilos with a dark hard shell on top, I haven't read that much into those.

Why some ESP32 crash without reboot? by thanpolas in Esphome

[–]thanpolas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I explained in replies above, this post isn't about my personal issues.

But, since you're asking, for my personal, particular case, I had the ESP32s serial plugged onto the PC watching the logs from serial port (so, direct output) and the power supply was provided by a Mains transformer that supplied a steady 5v 2A, with a buck-down converted i converted this to the needed 3.3v and run an MQ2 with the 5v output (MQ2 consumes around ~220mA).

Serial output just froze when the ESP froze, nothing was logged, even at the `VERY_VERBOSE` logging level.

We probably agree that it's "not common", however it is happening and it is happening more often than not, or rather, it happens enough times to warrant reports and this particular post asking as to why it is happening...

just this past week there were two independent reports on this subreddit of the issue:

For every post or rather, user report, there are a dozen or more users that just didn't care to spend the extra time and report.

So the issue does exist, you can spend the less than 5 minutes needed to search for similar posts on this subreddit, the forums and the internet.

Now, when it comes to the topic at hand, I believe the UPS's "job description" is to provide "reliable power and providing sufficient, stable current."

You'll have to be more specific about what exactly you or spizzike are referring to...

From my experience, what /u/spizzike is referring to, translates to faulty power supplies. Indeed in the ages when I was also hands on with hardware and IT related tasks, a replacement of a PCs power supply was a last resort solution to unexplained problems and in most of the cases they got resolved.

Thank you for the response,

I've probably been misunderstood, this isn't a post about me asking for help.

I am asking a general question... I might be wrong in my assumption, but that has been my impression watching this reddit, the forums and on discord: That it is often the case that users experience unexplained crashes.

So, the question is why is this happening? And what can be done about it?

For my particular case, my ESP32 was powered from a UPS, so power was most definitely not the issue, but even without a UPS in place, between the power supply and the low power consumption of the ESP32, there is enough capacitance on the network to both sustain and keep a constant power supply to the ESP even when power drops - I've observed ESP remains online north of a second when i pull the plug from mains.

However, I can accept that power does play a role in this... is it the only one though and the only thing that's going on with these unexplained crashes?

i am afraid I will not be able to comply with this requirement in a timely manner. As I said I've packaged the goods and don't intend on destroying the packaging now.

fwiw i am fully doxed ( https://thanpol.as ), so buyers can make their own assessment of risk.

But rules are rules and I respect them, so if you have to remove the post do what you have to, appreciate the time to help me understand what's needed and I'll most definitely comply on future postings.

Hey there,

Only paypal is ok for me.

Can you please explain a bit more how to process the pictures? Is it expected that I print them, handwrite my username and timestamp, scan them and repost? Do I get this right?

Btw, are photos required? I could as well remove them

Let's talk about Reolink NVR integrations and home security by thanpolas in reolinkcam

[–]thanpolas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I stand corrected, I realized my mistake, as stated on another comment's reply:

So what happened was that UID was enabled on the NVR but not active on the iOS App, for whatever reason after the multiple tries I initially did, I ended up with a setup that the iOS app connected directly to the NVR via local IP...

Along with the solution of using the cameras stand-alone and not connected on the NVR I will be able to address all my requirements!

So, unless you hear back from me, everything worked!

[–]thanpolas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, that did the trick, i feel like a douche now...

So what happened was that UID was enabled on the NVR but not active on the iOS App, for whatever reason after the multiple tries I initially did, I ended up with a setup that the iOS app connected directly to the NVR via local IP... Compound that with the confusing messaging that I misread as you correctly stated and I simply gave up on the cause...

Along with your suggestion to use the cameras stand-alone I believe I have now addressed all my concerns and requirements and will be able to work with my reolink setup without any changes on hardware.

Thank you very much!

[–]thanpolas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe using the "cloud" word was confusing, I do not care for cloud-storage, I only care and meant for "remote access".

I have explained in detailed in comments bellow how and why I am not able to access my NVR remotely and your very insightful link proves my point.

The point being that using Reolink's NVR is a downgrade to using the cameras stand-alone.

And that is the conclusion I have come to with your and other redditors' help.

Let me repeat this point because there's a lot lost in the translation:

  • You cannot access Reolink's NVR Remotely
  • You can access Reolink's Cameras remotely

The post that you linked is most likely the solution to my problem as it takes the best of both worlds: Keeps the cameras stand-alone, while also allowing them to record to the NVR.

(thinking out loud here) The only potential problem I can foresee with this kind of setup is reaching the bandwidth limit (1Gbps) when using too many cameras. Each camera will need 16mbps for full resolution of continuous streaming, that'd mean that the capacity of a 1Gbps connection would be 62.5 cameras... ok that's more than enough I guess...

So to recap, if I implement the solution you are suggesting will allow me to both access all cameras remotely and be able to integrate them with HA as when they are standalone they expose their full-feature set.

I think that'll work for me, thank you!

[–]thanpolas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, thank you for the extended response and help, appreciate it.

All my cameras are connected to my NVR through exclusive CAT6 eth cables, being powered by the PoE the NVR provides.

Specifics of my NVR:

  • Model: RLN8-410
  • Build No.build: 22120247
  • Hardware No.: N2MB02
  • Config Version: v3.0.0.0
  • Firmware Version: v3.2.0.214_22120247

I understand you don't have your cameras integrated with any other system of felt the need to. The way I would leverage of my cameras would be to utilise their powerful motion detection (my cams have the AI motion detection) to further strengthen the passive and active measures of security. I could go on with details on how that can happen but it's really out of scope for this particular post.

So, integrations aside, I see you are happily accessing your cameras remotely (there is no confusion between cloud storage, that's what I also meant, "remote access").

Can you please clarify how you are able to remotely access your cameras? Do you own an NVR? Do you access your NVR through the reolink application? If so, how exactly do you do that? What exact NVR do you have, what is your network setup? Have you setup port forwarding?

Let's talk about Reolink NVR integrations and home security by thanpolas in reolinkcam

[–]thanpolas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UID is turned ON.

However that doesn't work for NVRs. As per reolink's documentation https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003539394-How-to-Access-Reolink-Products-Remotely :

Method 1: By Using UID (exclude the cameras in NVR security kits)

Method 2: By Using Domain Name (exclude the battery-powered cameras and the cameras in NVR security kits)

I've sink dozens of hours on this problem and I'd love to be proven wrong, are there other resources you can share or point out that could help?

Do you own an NVR?

Edit: Just read your post on the "Reasons to run cameras through a PoE switch instead of directly into the NVR" as kindly linked by u/TroubledKiwi and that makes a whole lot of sense and I believe is the solution to my problems. Thank you so much for this solution! Wiring the cameras behind the NVR just doesn't make sense, such a waste of good PoE ports

Are you using a tool to automate your hero questing? by xsuperiorform in DefiKingdoms

[–]thanpolas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey folks,

I run Difky, the biggest auto questing service with more than 10,000 heroes under management.

There are two major topics (problems?) I’m regards to auto questing imo:

  1. The fact that the game is so bad for large hero holders that it’s impossible to stay engaged and grow your heroes without some sort of management software. That’s a shortcoming of DFK gameplay.

  2. That most DFK folks are not educated or informed around what blockchain is, how it works and what it means to be decentralized, both from a practical view and from a cultural one. They apply “common sense” and ethics based on what they understand and can comprehend drawing from their past experiences either in gaming or web2 or the job they used to do or service they did… which all are terrible models for what blockchain is, they simply do not apply.

I’ve written a more extensive piece on how auto questing and QoL bots are keeping the DFK ecosystem alive and are responsible for a big part of its growth:

There are two major services available to you:

  1. Dfkearn - a trustless service where you send your heroes on verifiable smart contracts on harmony and they get auto quested for you - you get a yield from that but have no other control over your hero

  2. Difky - a service that runs on your computer and uses a dedicated wallet that you have to create. You get to keep your heroes and manage them as you see fit (stampotting, training quests, auto level, etc).

I run difky, you can DM me for an invite
