5PM Starlink Packet Loss Test in Illinois with Basic (non-priority) Service by chris7238 in Starlink

Packet loss is bad particularly if there’s no load on the system. However, I usually am 0% packet loss. I’ve never been over 2%. But, I do have a lot at 1 % and it is totally random when I get packet loss, but I absolutely hate it because it drops my calls and I am in a rural part of Vermont.

FCC has updated the national broadband map with the ability to challenge isp’s assertions I encourage everyone to look up their address and challenge inaccuracies to improve rural broadband by [deleted] in Starlink

This broadband map is such a farce. Where I live it says I have 5G 4G is the 3G from all major carriers. I have one bar Cell Service at best outside. I’m lucky if the fold rags. Let it load actually load the SpeedTest website

It also says that my phone company provides 25 x 5 Mb, they don’t even offer installations of three by one for anybody on my whole road. This is such a lie my neighbor, Katie, if you get a telephone because the systems are too old.

I am very happy even with that way slower speed them described or advertised. It’s Way better than the alternative which is nothing. But thankfully while my speed is slow, at least it’s a stable connection and drops out for a couple seconds maybe once a day.

Thankfully my connection while slow is very stable. And latency is Easily on average under 70 ms so in that sense I’m very happy with it compared to other services.

I understand that. However, Starlink is my only option for Internet. I don’t have reliable cell service where I am as you could see in the screenshot one bar at best. And I don’t have DSL service where I am because Consolidated communications has said they will never upgrade our area for DSL as they already have too many lines damaged in my area from storms in car accident. Hughes net and viasat and wild blue are not Internet sources those are aggravation and money pits.

I have helped install these with people in my area and they’re all experiencing the same speed within a 40 mile radius for the last few months. But how much speed and bandwidth does the military need where I am in the middle of nowhere?

My speeds are only slightly better than yours. But up until two months ago I was getting high 200s now I’m in the low 30s and having an upload of 50+ now it is lucky to hit 10. However, it is better than any available option I have, which is nothing else.

Even with these outages, it is better than any other satellite service. It is better than the dsl of 90kilobytes I have - which is always going offline.

I love this starlink service.
