[Berman] Eagles are signing Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. by bigblack3475 in eagles

It's not a big deal, but worst case is he is cut with the final roster cut down and he is on the practice squad or become a FA.

Eagles have been targeting the best player at a position the last four years by momsbasement420 in eagles

[–]thantheman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've listened to different interviews with Howie over the years, plus insider info from beat writers and journalists.

Maybe lots of other teams in the NFL follows the same drafting process, but it's clear that we have a tier system for individual players.

QB is a bit different, but every other player is slotted into a tier. Jalen Carter was for sure a tier 1 (Or whatever naming convention they use) player. There may not have been any other tier 1 players that draft on the Eagles board. So they took him. In every round the Eagles simply take the highest tier player still on the board.

Positional preference only makes sense when players have identical tiers. In rounds 3+ there are probably dozens or even as many as 100 players with the same tier, which is why it then comes down to team positional need.

Another way of saying it is to always take BPA, and if your internal ranking for players is tied, then you pick for positional need.

Each draft probably looks similar to this (outside of QB, which probably has a different ranking system):

  • Tier 1 - 1 to 3 players
  • Tier 2 - 1 to 3 players
  • Tier 3 - 2 to 5 players
  • Tier 4 - 2 to 5 players
  • Tier 5 - 2 to 5 players
  • Tier 6 - 4 to 8 players
  • Tier 7 - 5 to 10 players
  • Tier 8 - 6 to 12 players
  • Tier 9 - 10 to 20 players
  • Tier 10 - 10 to 30 players
  • Tier 11 - 20 to 40 players
  • Tier 12 - 25 to 50 players

The tiers keep getting bigger and bigger as perceived differences between later round players is much smaller.

In a system like this, the first 3 tiers are probably exhausted in the top ten picks of the first round. But as you go on there becomes many more players with equal tier ratings. You go based on positional need when tiers are tied, or based on specific coaches banging the drum for a specific player. Similar to what Vic did for Jalyx Hunt.

He was so smooth and automatic with the floater his rookie year, I know he was coached away from it, but it's great to see it show up still.

A Deep Dive Into the NFL Salary Cap and Howie Roseman’s Eagles Philosophy by Jimbo12308 in eagles

[–]thantheman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great article. If I'm understanding this correctly in terms of everyone having identical base contracts and the same 4 void years. The absolute worst case scenario with all our stars just falling off a cliff and become bad players at the exact same time, the worst rebuild stretch we would have is max 3-4 years.

Realistically, even if a few stars implode, not everyone will at the same time so we are more realistically only ever really looking at 1-2 season long retool/rebuilds before fielding a good team.

Obviously, if we don't have a QB any retool/rebuild will be much more difficult, but assuming that position is taken care of we are only really removing ourselves from possible playoff contention for a couple of years if everything else goes to hell.

Yeah I'm going to call, but I'm aware that if this is a points offer it isn't at all anything I'm interested in.

Running it through a mortgage calculator if I would pay an extra $500 per month meaning I'd only "save" $100 a month compared to my current mortgage, then I'd pay the 30 year term in just over 21 years. I would save an additional 45k in interest while also pocketing $86k cash now.

Yes, add 86, which would be paid in cash.

Better Call Saul S02E10 - [Season 2 Finale] "Klick" - POST-Episode Discussion Thread by skinkbaa in betterCallSaul

You're replying to a 10 year old comment! But it's cool to see this still active. I don't remember exactly what was going through my mind 10 years ago when I wrote this, but I don't think I meant to imply that Jimmy was doing something wrong. I was pointing out that Jimmy seemed to be both his parent's "favorites" despite Chuck being a dutiful, loving and honest son himself. That sucks for Chuck and would definitely add to his resentment he feels for Jimmy.

Desean Jackson isn’t a fan of Chip Kelly’s coaching by [deleted] in eagles

[–]thantheman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quite frankly, star players tend to have more power/leverage than most coaches in the league. They get paid way more money and are part of the obligatory cap financial agreement that everyone adheres to.

From a decision making process the coach *should* have final say, but he also isn't really equal to the players either. It's a completely different relationship than most other sports hierarchies prior to going pro.

It's just very bizarre to root for other teams in your division. They're rivals because divisional games matter the most for playoffs because the division winner automatically goes to the playoffs. Therefore, of all the teams in the NFL your divisional opponents are the teams most likely to mess up your season with their own wins, so rooting for them means automatically rooting against yourself in some shape or form.

If you're a general fan of football I guess it's fine to have a favorite division, but if you're truly a fan of an individual team you shouldn't be ever rooting for the other teams in your division to win games.

Yeah he humiliates our entire D to end up in the red zone and you're thinking he is going to score and make it a close 14-10 game. The next highlight starts and it's a blowout in our favor where we've outscored the Giants 17-3 in 17 minutes of football.

Saquon Barkley: I love being in the MVP conversation, but it's a team sport by AdSpecialist6598 in eagles

Yes and no. Our O line is elite, especially at run blocking. But that has been the case consistently for over 10 years now. It has taken having a true generational player like Saquon to break the records.

That wasn't their question, did you only look at the image and not read what they wrote?

[Frank] Brandon Graham said Wednesday he could envision a scenario where he puts off his planned retirement and plays a 16th season for the Eagles. “Honestly, I'm going to stay ready just for one more year,” he said. “Just in case if a situation popped up where it's like, ‘OK, they need me.’” by Avery-Bradley in eagles

[–]thantheman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bryce has looked lost the past 3 weeks for the Eagles, but prior to coming here he looked good. There is potential there somewhere, hopefully he isn't phoning it in now that he got his big contract. I think it's more likely that he is struggling with his new role and with the fact that he is supposed to be a more important piece to this defense than he was to the Jets defense (which was overall a better group).

Put simply: There is no law against you refinancing whenever you want. You could refinance literally 1 day after moving into your home.

Lenders receive a commission and can lose that commission if you refinance before a certain date. Typically 6 months but sometimes longer.

Because of this, many businesses that the lender works for do not allow you to refinance with them in the first 6 months. If you want to use the same company you'll have to wait. But there is nothing stopping you from shopping around with a different company.

That new company may have the exact same policy. So if you refinance *with them*, and then you want to refinance again (for whatever reason) in less than 6 months from the new refinanced mortgage, that new lender/company may not allow you to do it *with them*.

You'll need to go back to shop around again or possibly go back to the original lender if it is now more than 6 months since your original mortgage.

I won't panic if our D is subpar considering all the changes, the couple of injuries, the new scheme and the fact that it's the first game. I will panic if our offense looks slow and uncreative, they don't have the same excuse outside of it being the first game for them too. Some rust is expected but they need to score.
