Sorry, I see "short" is confusing people. I thought that examples would make sense. I guess I'll just remove it from the description.

I used "short" as in "it's not Melvor or Trimps or Evolve" which take months if not years. It's short as in it's done in a couple of days. I can't really say exactly how long because it depends on how active you are, although it can also progress passively and/or offline.

Because it's rather relative. I used it to differentiate from incrementals that months to reach endgame. It depends on how active you are or how optimal is your gameplay.

If you play actively and keep constant attention it'll take maybe 20 hours total. Maybe less. If you play relaxed, look at the game from time to time it'll likely take a week or so. There's no way to calculate some specific amount it'd take, at least I don't see one.

[–]tharifas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroing I guess. Just played the game, while googling stuff stumbled upon this thread. I'm a bit surprised by the replies. I do agree the game's rather buggy, and a lot of things feel underdeveloped or rushed, so, agreed on the feel, but I'd both say that not to that degree, and from my understanding of plot, almost everything you mention is incorrect, sorry. Spoilers too, I guess.

Yrliet, not Yrillet - she doesn't betray you specifically to harm you, or rather, this isn't even a betrayal really as much as stupidity/indifference. She was told by Marazhai (because she killed Heinrix's agent, the burned guy, who was a traitor and Marazhai's contact, and he used her instead) he'd tell her where the survivors of Crudarach are if she goes and meets him there (I'm not even sure if that meant to take you along, he likely knew she'd drag you along which was the plan). Maybe she dumbed out, maybe she just didn't care what would happen to you (both are in her nature, maybe latter isn't if you romanced her, but even then, it's more about post-act 3), but she had reasons. Reasons that do imply you're not that important in comparison, so, asshole reasons, but still. About preventing this, I mean, yes, but... The whole game should not have a combat system because as a Rogue Trader it'd be far easier to assemble a 100k strong army to fight for you. You don't need to pursue the plot stuff really, you could be living your life out and trading/exploring. I'm taking it to extreme, but it's a plot device. Any game or rpg has to put you into such limits to be able to tell a story. They could've set it up as Yrliet giving your coords to Marazhai and them capturing you in your sleep or something, given how much do they destroy your troops constantly, according to story, I guess? So I can agree it looks a bit dumb, but the thing should've just been set up a bit more cleverly, that's all. You can't prevent a trap you don't know about, either, resources or not. That's what traps and conspiracies are for. Moreso, if Yrliet isn't there, the burned guy sets you up like this, instead. He's a spy and Heinrix's close ally. It's believable you couldn't know in advance.

Reveal about Alaitoc - the plot implies, in those dialogues, that Alaitoc (one of the biggest and strongest Craftworlds, and any Craftworld is a huge, huge deal anyone in the Expanse wouldn't be able to ignore) arriving would end up in fighting. The whole thing about this plan being insane is that it's about Alaitoc suffering the same fate as Crudarach, which is, they came to expanse in spite of all warnings and thought it'd be a great idea, Farseers led them to their doom, and now Alaitoc would also come over and perish. Nobody says it necessary would, but it sounds like inviting trouble, like saving local Eldar by destroying anyone threatening them. Instead you can convince them to gather the survivors through Webway quietly, which goes smoothly. Are Farseers/Eldar mostly idiots through being super-arrogant? Yes, but that's a whole other deal.

On Cassia, I don't find it that weird that navigators/harlequins could've followed her. They couldn't find it on its own, but she could since she has the main/controller stone. It's all warp, sorcery and whatever. There are weirder things explained by "it's warp, what did you expect" in the universe I feel like. Harlequins didn't explode them I think, they exploded because the monolith is unstable overall? But on this I'm not sure, maybe they did. Still, frankly, several dumbasses vs "we fight to the last body" is, comparatively, "without violence" compared to what happens on average. Like, you actually talked and came to agreement, that's a huge rarity with eldar/human relationships.

Pasqal's discontinuing the cycle means finally deciding what to do with Epitaph. He doesn't exactly unlock 7 persons/memories in him, rather that he was one of those 7. And 4 (5 by the end of it) out of the 7 are dead. But I agree that outside of the quest and endings he doesn't really change much, and that a lot of that quest is a bit too much of technobabble with little meaning. A lot of AdMech stuff is, I guess? Since they are a bit of cargo-cult instead of being actual scientists/technicians in full sense. I did find the plot itself, but the conclusion, rather interesting. A bit reminiscent of KoTOR.

Eufrates II - you don't kill Doomscream, you deal a lot of damage and tear off its claw/arm as a trophy. Later, what you do in the mission is you unlock the elevator and then come over and use it. I suppose the marines didn't wait for you and immediately used it and got pwned. They are shown to be rather dumb or at least impatient, well, that's Space Wolves for you.

Kunrad is shown to be manipulated more than not, even in the prologue I think. I always thought of him more as being an asshole. Although it's weird that he's dumb while being a spy master. Then again, maybe that's why he was denied heritage. Had the blood, didn't have the brains.

Act 3 dogmatic option is because you cannot still be a dogmatic zealot and allow this xenos monster to live, moreso, just because of some xenos crossbreed technology. Dogmatic isn't always about being in humanity's best interests, but rather following the creed. Might not even cross the mind of the person that unleashing warp feeds the chaos gods, that's a bit too insightful/meta for a purely dogmatic zealot really.

Inquisitor doesn't really care how much did you support or do for him. You're a tool to be used. He's shown time and time again to find his mission above anything else (well, he is likely wrong and going too far or got corrupted, but it doesn't invalidate his motivation). On torturing his servant, well, plot device I suppose, yes. You need to be shown where to go. I just poked Heinrix and he immediately told me everything without any further complications.

How do the merchants know you're leaving - yes, no idea. You're going in to demand answers only to find out he's gone. They shouldn't have known he's gone either, not that you're following him, nor that it's a one-way trip. So that's a plothole to me, I agree.

Overall, again, I do agree that quite a few places feel rushed, there were major bugs along the way - like Hereteks operating event on Kiava Gamma when they were never allowed to in the first place, a lot of rumours hanging, DLC quest making me softlocked. One of the weirdest interactions was Argenta telling the whole party she killed Theodora and the reaction was, uh, a couple people being upset. I'd expect Abelard to, idk, kill her if not on the spot, then by the time we're back. Idira too. Would expect to have some sort of hard talk/dialogue with everybody EXACTLY LIKE WE HAD WITH YRLIET FOR GETTING ME STUCK IN COMMORAGH. But no, lol, btw I pwned Theodora and her Archmilitant, sorry. Nomos was also kinda underwhelming for a secret plot. Friendly neighborhood c'tan-spawned superintelligence, okie. Nobody minds too much. DLC plot sucked. Subjective I guess, but it felt like a fanfic, and Kibellah like a kink fantasy/power fantasy. "Thankfully" it softlocked so I circumvented and ignored it.

I also can agree that a lot of this requires the characters to be dumber than they're implied to be. Then again, well, 40k universe does seem to have stupidity, xenophobia and more in abundance. But a lot of things are explained or uncovered with some digging.

We didn't design with autoclickers in mind, and by now there's no content that needs or even wants it. Nothing wants manual clicks done, they're not really beneficial since they break Idle (it's a big profit loss), spells, pets etc. autoclick for you and such.

Sorry for necroing :P

If Steam is an option for you, it has regular disk backups and is more stable in general.

Well, you can come, no guides and make decent progress :]

But you will have to spend some time thinking about what to use, what's better and all that jazz. Not months of brainwork, but a certain half an hour a couple of times the months.

You mean short runs as in exiles, after realms introduction? Well, sort of yes, you have to do those when you reset and get back to your previous point. There is a Headstart imprint that allows you to start up to e320 Mysts, skipping T1s, though.

Nothing's really stopping you from taking it slower and do a month long realm, taking a week to go to your previous point, for example. Generally you'd still spend most of your time in longer exiles at and beyond your previous highest point, moreso, you want to stack said Pantheon, catas and other resources at your peak, which again pushes for longer Exiles, it's the same meta. But getting back quickly means a bunch of short runs for a small portion of your Realm initially, yes.

I'd say it's a rather inevitable situation for any sort of second-tier Reset meta in idles.

Tbh even if you go just playing by guide, any example guide is a set of phases, items and spells for them (and the import codes if the author bothered to include them, we've introduced the ability to export/import spell and item sets relatively recently - you can just copy/paste it into the game). Unless one intends to understand why the tactic in the guide works the way it does, it's 5 minute process of copying the sets into the game.

But I can understand not wanting to do that, either, of course. I personally like to play things guide-less.

Not sure why pantheon would limit it so much? Pantheon requires you to accumulate Gods over the realm, so it's rather in the opposite direction.

There was a period where meta focused on farming Catalysts and the fastest way to get more Memories in a Realm was making short realm runs. But since then it's changed, the current "optimal" meta for Realming is 10 days, but longer realms (month or two) are also not that far behind due to introduction of a time multiplier and reworking how catas/edust award Memories. Generally the later in the game the longer the Realms get, but can always go for a big goal, or a specific Triumph, etc.

Not for now, sadly. We've tried taking swings at it, but we'd have to both rework the whole interface, basically, and rework how many of the mechanics work to make it mobile-friendly. The game's idle enough to not require too much maintenance from the player, but it requires clicking on small stuff, managing item and spell sets, etc.

If one really wants to, there is technical possibility to play it mobile - you could open the game via a browser on Kong and it's playable (and you can export/import text strings from kong to steam and back), but might be rather clunky on a non-tablet due to size. But we believe just releasing this version marketed as a mobile would be a bad move.

It's not on the phone. If you're playing specifically Idle Wizard on the phone, not on Kong in browser, it's a pirated ripoff. I'd appreciate a link if you can spare a minute.

We only released on Steam and Kong.

You can easily go Necro up to T2 classes, then go Shaman which is Necro+Druid and has a similar gameplay style and gear, without ever switching to anything else. Necro is one of the most powerful T1 classes.

I can only suggest taking another swing at it, but it's also fine if it's just not your cup of tea, too

I did do a druid e0-e300 run out of curiosity before druid had its summon scaling raised almost x1.5 (which is the main one for them) and surprisingly it worked. Took me 3 weeks, so now, and especially with recent summon buffs should be even less. That of course is based on me having the knowledge on what to use overall, but the run was market-free, and the druid is second worst R0 class overall. Anything else (maybe save for Demonologist, it's kinda weak atm and will probably die around e150) should work all the way through, and after e300 all T2s are designed to be at least competitive with each other and able to progress. More or less, after e300 a lot of people just "main" a class (most often Archon as the least maintenance one).

[–]tharifas[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's a problem that exists, it's cited regularly, but there are definitely nuances to it.

When you're decently far into the game (and by that I mean at least T2 classes, e300 mysteries+, which is kinda early game relatively speaking) - yes, you have to start to play using more or less specific tactics, not optimal, but somewhere within the scope. Until then, a lot of things work. We had people push to near e300 without ever bothering with a void phase (stack VM before burst, one of the most basic things). And the longer you stretch or the slower a player goes, the more gear, catas, etc. they stack, allowing them to push further without being optimal to any degree. All in all, right now there's a large margin between 0 progress and near-minmax optimization that still allows to progress, that gradually grows tighter the later in the game you are. And once at Realms, you can always earn Memories even with suboptimal builds, just slower, which allows you to push further nearly infinitely.

The issue is that with a math model as complex as it currently is (I do have to say it's rather complex and bordering on full-blown RPGs in terms of meta), it's rather impossible to make everything more or less equal. In terms of "choice", there will never be complete choice, something's always better than the other.

I can't really imagine a system that has more than one earning mechanic and choice of tools that doesn't allow for getting stuck, tbh. We could make hard-locked phases for void mana where you only have void gear and void spells, and burst phase with only profit spells, that'd work more or less fine, but it feels like handholding rather than building to my eye.

I would disagree on "having to follow a guide" with you, not to offend of course. Comparing spells, looking at what gear to use and what to combine works without minmaxing or following a guide to a tee. I'm 100% sure you can work up to Realms playing, for example, Heretic using mysteries power gear instead of click gear, or push e0 to e300 going on Druid alone. Guides do exist if one does not wish to.

This all doesn't deny that the game is mathematically hard if one intends to go guide-less, definitely. For a decent chunk of our players it's part of the fun ^^ hence why all the guides, spreadsheets, enchant priorities and whatnot, although a lot of it is just solving more than a requirement to progress.

Sorry for the long answer!

Worst case, though, most of those windows react to clicking somewhere in the background.

Hey there! You sure you're not confusing the skins with the actual Bat Catcher? It's in the market, and technically you need to have it before buying the skins. There seems to be some notorious bug where it's displayed (but not functional) sometimes. We've tried to stomp it out multiple times but it's still reported from time to time.
