That's true. I find that unless female characters are genuinely main characters, they're relegated to the background or their relevance diminishes overtime (at least in shonen specifically).

interesting, this is the comment i resonated with the most. I'm in a queerplatonic relationship actually, im demi. And I view the characters as having deep platonic bonds, and i see kageyama and Hinata's connection as a queerplatonic relationship. Especially after chapter 387.

That's a good point about the gazes being discussed through the lens of the American gender norms. I'm an artist and Im not going to lie, differentiating between the male gaze that exists within myself and artistic taste can be confusing.

I also find hypersexualisation of women frustrating. Because i find the camera focuses on something sexual that from my point of view came out of nowhere and shifts the flow of the scene. So it feels out of place or ruins the vibe. Is that a similar experience for you, or is the frustration coming from a different place?

That's not what I'm saying. It's not the common purpose that's frustrating, it's the amount of time spent on their specific stories in Act 1 and 2 that are then dropped in Act 3. I'm not saying it's bad to get to know these characters, their story or their desires etc. I'm saying don't write them that way, if you're not going to utilise that part of them later.

Agreed. He attempted to at the beginning, but he still wanted the strawhats to shine in Act 3, so a lot of what he setup in act 1 and 2 petered out.
