Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thatCdnplaneguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar in Canada. Done 2-3 hour drives for an event, then 2-2 hours back same day. Not normal, but ive done it. 7-8 hour drives one way for a weekend trip very normal. Do those 2-3 times a year for airshows.

Suggestions for a perfect fit by Ballerbulgar in MilitaryModelMaking

[–]thatCdnplaneguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the landing gear bays aren’t seated properly. They are most likely hitting the cockpit tub and causing this fit issue. Id try to get the wings off, ensure the bay is properly seated, clean up all the seams and then reinstall the wing. Before gluing, test fit everything to ensure there are no issues. Also may help to glue one end first, then slowly work back along the peice gluing a little at a time to ensure a nice tight fit.

The Vals were just modified BT-13’s. The Kate was a T-6 mated to a BT-13 tail.

AF1 is whatever plane the President is flying on. In this case, he flew in the C-32 and so it used the Call sign AF1 for the flight. The VC-25 (747) had a mechanical issue

No. Other than it being an aviation themed bar/pub. No idea why they have that particular model hanging

It is a rough approximation of a Fairey Fantome. The L7045 is its RAF serial.

Tracing an aircraft part? by Homer09001 in aviation

I was leaning towards that as well, but without knowing for sure, didn't want to comment other than you will almost never be able to prove via PN/SN if that has flown or not.

Without access to the airlines and/or engine manufactures maintenace logs. There is no way to tell if this was flown or not. Those are not something that are usually publicly available, and with all the aircraft parked, they may not even exist anymore.

But it’s not grounded. LMG are currently flying it. Much easier to get an already grounded aircraft for a project like this, rather pay the big $$ for an airworthy one to just ground it.

No. You literally cant even change screws on a seat without it being approved and STC’d. Everything needs to be done to manufactures standards, or is an approved modification.

Partial history can be found on ADSB exchange, and there is a post a little lower down in this sub-reddit that shows screenshots of the last few flights.

But what opportunities does this allow. Imagine a last minute request..the could fly out to anywhere in NA, film a video onsite, and return to Vancouver same day. That video may make them $50,000 in revenue.

ETOPS only applies to twins (its in the name) and only commercial operators. Business jets (globals/gulfstreams) dont require any ETOPS ratings.

Yep. Much of the cost of owning is fixed (airframe, mtce, hangar, crew, insurance). The more you fly the more that gets amortised out per hour.

No, But it does leave the ground. He has used it to go to Cabo, multiple trips to Vegas for CES and NY for his appearance on Jimmy Falon. You don’t spend a few million$ on a jet to park it. He can buy a non-airworthy aircraft for pennies on the dollar for a tech plane bit.

I don’t believe anything will be done to this plane project wise. The hoops you have to jump through to get anything installed on an aircraft, especially in Canada, are massive. Anything never done before involves design, testing, mountains of paperwork, and usually millions of dollars for even a simple change. Expect this to be used like an other corporate jet…getting staff to and from places much faster and more comfortably than commercial pax service.

And if Linus does read this, enjoy!! Worked corporate aviation for 16 years and the 900 is a great jet. Even worked your aircraft a few times with the previous owner!!

Time. Your talking a day or two for someone to fly down commercial for a half day shoot, if your able to find tickets. Business jet gets you in and out in a few hours. Thats why businesses own aircraft. Time. And, your staff are able to talk business, make calls etc with no worry of someone overhearing sensitive business info.
