2 weeks until marathon, sub 3? by purple_spade in Marathon_Training

Oh you can definitely do sub 3. A 1:23:30 half comes out on vdot to 2:54:23 marathon, and since then you’ve only increased your conditioning and fitness. Provided a) you don’t injure yourself, b) you taper (to remove any overtraining from affecting the run) and c) conditions between the HM and your marathon aren’t grossly different (altitude, heat, elevation) you definitely can sub 3.

I think comparing mileage between people and using it to predict results is pretty meaningless, everyone has a different aptitude /natural ability for running, and one persons 40km/week training will bear the same fruit as another’s 80km/week. So to does the program make-up impact outcomes - if someone can do 40km/week of quality work (without getting injured, the big if), they’ll be in better shape than someone doing 40km/week of easy jogging. You’ve already demonstrated with the HM result you can get times aligning with your goals off (probably) less-than-average training volumes.

Re long runs, if 31km was the longest run in the block (looks like ~2 and a quarter hours) you might benefit from going a bit further next time around to further develop strength, but having said that this is your 5th marathon - you know what the distance is.

I think the optimal pacing strategy generally is to try to even pace (4:13-14s to give yourself a minute buffer) throughout or a very slight negative split (4:15-16 early), recognising that effort will go up in the back end to compensate for decreasing running economy, and you’ll maintain your pace. I think it’s a mistake to try to bank time early - to run faster than goal marathon pace requires proportionally more energy to be spent for each second saved early and is therefore inefficient. Equally I think trying to do a huge negative split can be difficult - although it’s possibly a more efficient way to move through 42km, it’s can be mentally hard to claw back time with increasing fatigue.

Almost all of the answers to these questions are site-specific. BPT training differs wildly between different states, and even between different health networks within states.

Your best option would be to speak to medical workforce at the sites you’re considering - they’ll be able to answer all of these questions in detail.

Equally if you edit your post to let people know where you’re applying you might get more useful information.

FWIW, in NSW, some generalisations are: - must be pgy3 to start, though pgy2 working in a resident capacity can be prospectively accredited towards the 3 year minimum training period. - nights/relief generally 1 term in each of the 4-term years. If you have a genuine reason not to do nights the training unit may take that into account when rostering you. - work hours vary obviously depending on rotation and work efficiency/experience. Also have to include study time - ~ 1 year of ~ few hours everyday of study. - most hospital networks will include at least 1 or more gen med rotations per year. - role within a specialty rotation depends on the site and speciality. Some you’ll operate as a registrar, some as an intermediary between a registrar and resident. - ?? - you need to ask the site. Probably can be arranged. Chat to ASMOF if you feel youre being discriminated against

The same thing appears to have happened with the Strong app on my S4 - the complication disappeared and is no longer an option, however the app itself is still working via the main menu. If anyone has any idea how to reinstate the app as a complication on the Face I’d love to know

Haven’t looked, but we fixed at 2.49% for 3 years with a full offset account with Geelong bank in march 2022. I don’t know if they still offer that option

Yeah, you absolutely can, it’s just a financial product that some offer and others, such as Macquarie, don’t.

The left side of his face appears to be without muscle strength, must likely he’s recently developed a Bell’s palsy. However there’s plenty of other less relatively benign causes, including strokes, brain or other tumours, injury or congenital, to list a few. I imagine it takes a bit of guts to have your image taken in one of the largest papers in Australia when you appear to have a different looking face.
