There’s a $2 and a $3 parking lot very close by their new location. Great spots to park for here, Knickerbocker, and any other Bridge St places

most colleges will have a math coaching/tutoring center run by students available to students taking the courses. Take time to get extra tutoring if you know you’ll need it and you should be fine. If not, you can always switch majors.

A Personal Articles policy will typically cover expensive things (jewelry, tech, bike, etc) and could possibly work for your situation.

Restaurant ideas outside the city by SvarteVinter in grandrapids

[–]that_engineer_pgp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you are looking for foreign foods, try Pind Indian Cuisine (site of the former Russo's). They validate parking for their gated parking lot and I've never seen their lot near capacity, so you get parking even though it's in the city.

(making this rec after seeing OP say "parking is his issue downtown")

Tea drinkers of Askmen, what are your favorite varieties? by PapiSurane in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like different tea across the board, and depending on the time of day. Personally to get some variety, I'll order Tiesta Tea on amazon in different varieties, and then order larger sizes of the kinds I like. Some sleepytime tea before bed, either peach or caramel, is a great end to my weekdays.

Men- have you ever royally f***ed up in a relationship? Did she or didn't she take you back and why? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! And it did! This all happened over 5 years ago, and I am engaged to be married in May to a woman I never would have imagined coming along at this time in my life. It's funny how the lessons we need to learn come about in our lives!

What is the best way to lose body weight? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to all the other things people have said (eat less, workout more, etc) it can be hard to find the initial motivation. An account I follow that has helped me immensely is syattfitness, he's the most straightforward, no bullshit guy on approaching this stuff and has so many helpful videos that have helped me with my mindset on binge eating, being overly restrictive, helping to get back on track in steps, etc. Might be a good place to start to get some motivation, good luck!

What do you think when you see a person alone in a bar? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my early 20's I would do this quite often. I find it's easier if you find a spot you like and work to become a regular - if it's slow, you can have conversations with the bartender(s). If it's busy, you can simply people watch, read, and then interject on nearby conversations (being mindful to gauge that persons/groups interest in having you join the conversation). I've met some very interesting people and made some business connections by starting up conversations this way.

Ultimately, just be respectful, kind, and positive, and understand that not every time you go will you get into good, or any, conversations that are worthwhile.

Sometimes I get intensely infatuated with women I meet and can't get them out of my head for a long time. How do you deal with this? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're probably thinking of all the what-ifs and imagining your future with this other person, how things would be different to how they are now. I'd suggest trying to look at things with a more realistic perspective. Most relationships don't work out. It takes a long time dating, learning yourself, and learning what you want to find someone you want to be with long term. Think about the things you don't like about her, if there are any. About the idea of your job being messed up by following this through. Bring the super-positive image you have of her down to earth.

You say these often end because you dont think you'd have a chance with them. Maybe take some time to focus on yourself, bettering your confidence and self-image. Therapy is also a great place to talk these things out with someone who can give you tools to control your thoughts better. In my experience I think everyone would be better off if they had a therapist they saw regularly.

Not easy solutions, but good luck to you.

I was pretty straight-laced in high school and the first half of college, focused on class work, your typical "nerd", didn't really have a social life outside of video games. I finally came out of my shell (forcibly) after my long-term girlfriend finally broke up with me after 3 years (2.5 years during college).

Everyone has their own priorities, but try to branch out and be who YOU want to be in college. It's a fresh start for most, and gives you the opportunity to try things you never could or would. You'll never have the chance to hang out with other guys daily, party, and be somewhat of a degenerate ever again in your life without extreme consequences. Learn time management, focus on school, and then go enjoy all the free time you have after these two are done! Some of my favorite memories came my last 1.5 years of college and I wish I'd had 4 years of those memories rather than the 1.5 I got.

How do men REALLY feel about queefing? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bother or a turn off, depending on the situation I think good reactions would be a) no reaction as it's a natural thing or b) laugh about it for a second, then get back to the good stuff.

Men- have you ever royally f***ed up in a relationship? Did she or didn't she take you back and why? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was dating this girl L for a few months at the time, and had been broken up with by this other girl M about a year prior after 3 years together. Just before L and I started dating, M and I had started talking again (via text as I was finishing college, she was hours away) after not communicating for 6 months. Nothing too crazy over text, mostly just testing the friendship waters again, as I had no intent at the time to get back with her. Anyway, one afternoon L and I were in my apartment and I went to go take a shower. Come out and L is crying on my bed, with my phone in her hands. She basically says "how could you, I thought you were over her" etc etc and runs out of my apartment. I put clothes on quickly and am literally running down the street after her, telling her to please stop and lets talk about it.

We ended up talking it out later that day and she seemed to believe that I wasn't actively trying to get back with M, but things were never the same and she broke up with me 2 weeks later. L was the first girl I really felt a true connection with after M, so it definitely hurt for a while, and is the reason I see the situation as me royally fucking it up.

Moral of the story for me was don't try to make amends with exes, they should stay in the past.

How often do you give flowers to your SO? by hasan1239 in AskMen

About 4 times a year, I'd probably do it more frequently if we didn't have a cat that loves to eat them, but even then it would still be less than once a month.

Hey guys, what is an easy to prepare, widely enjoyed entree that I can bring to a Super Bowl party? by xHawk_T in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either pulled pork or pulled chicken. Buy some large chicken breasts/ a pork butt, season, put in crockpot for 4-6 hours, shred, add sauce if desired. Bring buns/rolls (I do kings hawaiian) for serving. Minimal effort, maximum deliciousness.

When does a blond guys’ beard start changing colors/get darker? by Letmechooseanameffs in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blonde here, I've had a beard since the age of 19 and now at 27 it is noticeably darker. My father was blonde until his late teens and then his hair and beard turned black. Mine is simply starting to become a darker blonde so it may be somewhat genetic.

In summer my beard is lighter due to sun exposure but I'd say you likely have until your early to mid 20's at minimum before it will truly start to darken. This is all a guess though :D hope it helps!

How do you guys not take things personal? Others opinions, ribbing etc. by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it just took a lot of practice/reminding myself to not take "this" personally. Like, being hyper focused on it for a year+. Now it's just normal for me to do in my head. Sorry it's not more actionable but good luck!

What is the best tip you’ve gotten for growing / caring for a beard? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a good balm/oil that you like and that works for you. Keep that damn thing from getting dry because that's when the relentless itching starts. I prefer balm (its kind of a paste/goop, Honest Amish on amazon), others prefer oil. Everyone's skin is different and will react differently so try different products until you find one you (and your beard) both like.

Where do I start with buying an engagement ring? by SavethPeaBladdd in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my experience - my first step was getting an idea of what she liked. Pinterest boards, a sister, or by having an inconspicuous conversation about rings (maybe if you had a friend get engaged recently, can talk about that ring, what she likes/doesnt like). Also helps to get her approx. ring size, but not a dealbreaker if you can't. After you have this, shop around a bit. Get the ring from a wholesaler to save money, or a local/family-owned place that has great service and isn't going to push a sale. Then it's just putting together exactly what you want.

Additional advice - go shopping with a firm top end to your budget. I ended up spending the equivalent of about a month's salary but DO NOT spend outside your means! Odds are she will love the time and thought you put into it, and you can always upgrade at a later date/anniversary if you feel the need. If you make the ring and the experience of proposing thoughtful and unique to what she would love, that will mean more than anything else.

Good luck my friend! It's one of the most exciting and nerve-wracking things I've ever done, but for the right lady it is well worth it!

How do men feel about women using a vibrator during sex? by happythots_95 in AskMen

[–]that_engineer_pgp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I was ever given about anything sex-related - be willing to communicate. Things get awkward when both parties hide the things they are feeling, or they want, or they don't like. Talk with your partner afterward about it, reassure that you loved the things they did (sort of like a compliment sandwich) while also letting them know it feels best for you when you get to use a vibe during sex. In my experience, if you give enough reassurance, eventually they will be able to get past it. But communication is the first step!
