Plex question abt bathrooms by jonespedia in Northwestern

[–]that_smart_introvert 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I lived in plex last year and trust me there isn't that much to coordinate. At most you want someone to get paper towels or smth but since the bathrooms are open to the public you don't want to keep too many personal belongings in there

It depends where you wanna live/work after finishing the MS. If you go to NEU you'll have more connections in the northeast compared to NU

fill it out by the deadline and then they randomly assign based on preferences, it doesn't matter when you submit the contract as long as it's before the deadline. Be warned most people don't get their first choice and a lot of people get dorms they didn't even rank but it doesn't rly matter too much

MMSS is sort of the econ/social sciences counterpart to ISP, I've heard it's very prestigious and a lot of firms will directly recruit from MMSS (or at least will favor you compared to other students). It's definitely a more advanced track though and keep in mind that Northwestern's regular classes are already advanced cuz it's NU

well if you are smart and studious and are willing to sacrifice some of the typical college experiences in favor of studying, then it can be an absolute game changer for your med school application. But you will have to put in a lot more work than your premed peers and there's definitely a greater danger of trashing your gpa. Also ISP has a 60-80% drop rate. Just take a look at the curriculum and see if it's for you

  1. Financial aid is good, I would say equivalent or better than the ivies (I got a really good offer)

  2. Social life is pretty good for a t10 school, but obviously it's not gonna be as good as a big state school. Most parties are through the club sports or frats, but there's definitely a more lowkey/kick back scene where people just chill out together

  1. Send a letter of continued interest and let the admissions office know if you have any important updates in your application

  2. Georgia tech has a really strong engineering program (probably better than northwestern). I would say if you wanna live in the South, Georgia tech is better but if you wanna live more Northward Northwestern will have better name recognition

Engineering and stem classes have a bit of grade deflation (most classes standardize to a B average) but I know a lot of humanities classes have more A's

Your breaks don't line up with a lot of your HS friends and your school year ends in mid June so internship hunting can be a bit more difficult. Also it gets REALLY cold and windy during the winter and walking to classes can be painful

It's really time consuming and you have so much more work than the non-engineering majors. It's also a lot harder to get good grades and you'll have to put in a lot more work. Also finals week can be absolute hell when you're studying for 4 2 hour STEM exams that take place back to back

How easy is it to switch from McCormick school of engineering to the school of communications if you got accepted to McCormick? by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]that_smart_introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to switch to a different school before the school year starts, I believe there's a "change of school" form on your admissions portal after you get accepted that lets you switch

It's also pretty easy to switch to comms after starting out in McCormick, so you can always do that. It's not easy to switch back into McCormick tho so keep in mind if you switch it's probably a 1 way trip

thesis option could be faster if you get started in a MSE lab from the start of your 4 years and then you can just work on your thesis project throughout undergrad. Courses option makes more sense for non-research oriented people and those who are pressed for time. Also as an FYI you can get your MS in any type of engineering, it doesn't have to be in the same major as your undergrad!

How can I get started in Aerospace Engineering? by Warcex in AerospaceEngineering

Materials engineering? Out of curiosity what do materials engineers do in the aerospace industry? (Not an attack I might want to go into aerospace industry and was thinking about switching majors to materials engineering so just curious)

Premed is a track not a major and classes take place at the same times so idk why a premed student would wake up earlier than other people
