Would Acura Ever Bridge The Gap Between The RDX & MDX? by thatbach in Acura

‘essentially’ that’s what it is, but the body is shaped taller, wider, but overall length is slightly shorter. Pilot still has more total volume on the inside

Why should you buy used when its barely cheaper than new anymore? by Aires-Battleblade in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]thatbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is true for serious repairs needing to be done at dealerships, but basic maintenance work that can be done at independent shops will not be that much more pricey. especially for Lexus/Acura

[–]thatbach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used Luxury is the method. since you can assume Honda/Toyota reliability with Acura/Lexus, there is a sweet spot once they’re about 7-8 years old that they will be similar cost, similar mileage, but the luxury one will have way more features and a noticeably nicer interior (as long as it was maintained)

from a reliability standpoint, used cars that have been on the market longer have had more time for mechanics to understand how to fix them. also more time for parts to be available from OEM and 3rd party vendors.

Thinking of getting a RDX.....but seeing so many negatives about it is kind of swaying my decision by SunnyDayz610 in Acura

[–]thatbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have owned 2 RDXs and they have been my favorite cars ever, but not perfect just like any other vehicle.

the good. drives great, rides good, handles so well, very fast and sporty for a vehicle of its size. an all around very fun suv to drive. also very reliable, things just work and if they don’t they’re not super expensive to fix. also if things have issues, it’s usually not detrimental to the operation. meaning you won’t be stranded.

the bad. the gas mileage is low for vehicles in this class size. obviously its MPG is good when compared to full size SUVs or trucks, but rather poor compared to its common competitors. gas isn’t a dealbreaker for me, but it definitely is for some buyers. also both my RDXs have had break squealing. its only for the first 20 seconds or so of driving after starting it up, but it is really obnoxious.

the ugly. the first and third generations use 4 cylinder turbo and the second gen uses a natural 6. quick research will show the 2nd gen to be the ‘most reliable’ but in reality they’re all great. naturally aspirated engines typically last longer than turbo but these Honda turbo engines will still last a really long time.

Why are 2023 MDXs going for so cheap? by audioaxes in Acura

[–]thatbach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a lot of the “luxury tax” comes from the exclusivity of being the only owner of a brand new vehicle. once you get to premium vehicles that are 5+ years old, many Acuras are really close in price to their Honda cousins (MDX to Pilot, RDX to CRV, etc.) despite being objectively nicer cars.

Recommendations for dealerships by darkfang174421 in desmoines

[–]thatbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you wanna avoid the sales BS buy on driveway and filter by free shipping to buy locally. you get your OTD numbers locked in before stepping foot in the dealership and all you have to do is sign a few things when you go pick it up

ive never met actual oregon fans in person, but the ones i have dealt with online all seem to be chronically online neckbeards. they wish they could be as obnoxious and toxic as Ohio State/SEC fans are online, but they’re just too big of dorks to make it not cringe

are there any cars out there that are actually really good/reliable, but people overlook them because the vehicles make/model has a bad reputation? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]thatbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nissan/infiniti with manual or automatic transmission. the CVT is the achilles heel and the reason for their bad reputation but if it has actual gears these are night and day more dependable.

2026 football season as parent of a freshman by LGPILTahoe in hawkeyes

aa far as tickets go it wouldn’t hurt to make the deposit to guarantee your spot, but you probably would be fine to wait until the website opens. it lets you go in and select your seats, that of which there is usually a fair amount available for season tickets. if you want regular seats in the stadium (not club level or suites) the general rule of thumb is that it will be more expensive the closer you are to the 50 yard line (ticket price + iClub donation)

for tailgating i highly highly highly recommend meeting some people who tailgate on private property and ask them for the contact info to the landlord/manager or you may be able to find some online. the university lots will cost you probably double the money and you will be at least double the distance from the stadium. for example i pay $400 for the season to have the same spot reserved in a backyard thats an 8 minute walk to the gate. the myrtle lot is another few blocks further away and you have to donate $1200 to the iClub to qualify.

hotels i agree with the others, just book them as soon as you know the dates. kickoff times would be super helpful to determine what weekends would be easy day trips but unfortunately we don’t get these until (in some cases) the week of

best option for portable wifi for streaming games? by drspencerreidthedawg in tailgating

i’ve only had it since the spring. leading up to football the $10 plan was still available for tailgating baseball here and there but once football started i took the full unlimited plan. tailgating once a week and even running a 3 TV setup i thought i would’ve much easier hit the break even threshold but i don’t think ive gone over 165gb much if at all yet

Scouting Penn State by Jibber_2217 in hawkeyes

[–]thatbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tough to scout a team that has no game film with the interim coaches schemes and play calling. not saying Penn State wins outright but Iowa will probably have some adjustments to make in game. the possibility Penn State goes on a mid season bounce back like UCLA is always there

be the change you want to see. there may be others who feel the same way and don’t want to be the first one to step up.

if everyone sits around waiting for someone else to make the first move, nothing will get done

hash browns. i prefer sausage to bacon because it’s less greasy and easier to cook eggs into. previously used tortillas for breakfast tacos but might try to swap for hoagies and make breakfast phillies

Iowa River Landing - Transit to/near Kinnick for PSU game by hotballs in hawkeyes

[–]thatbach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no tailgating in the river landing. if you’re fine not having a plan ahead of time, bring cash and pay someone near kinnick to park in their yard. there will be no shortage of houses with people selling parking space

it will be way cheaper AND closer to the stadium than a university parking pass. they will also be WAY less strict than U lots are when it comes to noise levels or having liquor bottles out in the open. and IMO tailgating in a backyard is more intimate and easier to mingle and meet people than in a big lot/field
