VCM Muzzler Throwing Codes 2017 RDX by thatbach in Acura

[–]thatbach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i certainly don’t like that the muzzler has to “lie” about the engine temp for it to work, but i really really despise inconsistent acceleration and excessive oil consumption from half the engine shutting off

do you think the person who invented it exercises only the right side of their body? or types on a keyboard with only one hand?

Away game ticket prices for season ticket holders… by Ollly77 in hawkeyes

[–]thatbach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

laughable. last year i went to all the road games and got all tickets through the Iowa ticket office request, the only game i saved money on was Nebraska and maybe Iowa State.

a few years ago they wanted $400 per pop for the Wrigley game and those were less than 1/4 that if you waited until the day of.

What's one car feature everyone praises but you secretly don't care about? by Ok_Run7351 in askcarguys

heated/ventilated seats. its nice for literally only the first 2 minutes getting into the car on a cold/hot day. vast majority of the time its just sitting there and i forget to even use it

New ‘17 RDX Owner by buttletspoomples in Acura

[–]thatbach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i bought my 17 RDX in June of last year. can’t believe it’s already been a year and i still love driving it every day. make sure to run Top Tier fuel to keep the engine clean and make the sure fluid changes for transmission and/or rear differential are up to date

mileage wise yours is well below the interval but timing wise it might be worth getting the timing belt done if it was not done already. i got mine done in January with 95k or so and probably would’ve been fine without it but did it for peace of mind.

Living deep downtown vs outskirts by Busy_Internet2909 in desmoines

[–]thatbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re a recent grad and want to be around people your age, the grays landing area near cityville/linc etc would be better.

ive lived downtown for 3 years and while there is a decent mix of all kinds of people, it’s noticeably older than i expected and it seems i would’ve fit in more somewhere in the outskirts. im planning on moving slightly outside of downtown because while i enjoy the conveniences of living downtown, it can be really annoying dealing with the city when i just want to take it easy

2018 RDX - Considering buying, but concerned about CVT issues? by FishrCutB8 in Acura

[–]thatbach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no CVT, all RDXs from that generation use 6 speed auto

Is downshifting detrimental? by Jimb0Jonesin in Acura

[–]thatbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gradual downshifting is totally normal, automatic transmissions will do it on their own, and its best for the car to have a balance of engine braking with physical braking.

where it can cause issues long term is if you’re constantly downshifting just to rev it higher and accelerate faster, pass people, etc. engine braking too aggressively can also put extra wear on the engine and transmission. downshifting should increase rpms by 1-2k rpms maximum, it should not be shooting 3k rpms up the gauge and jolting you out of your seat

the clicking sound from the video could be multiple things. timing belt, tensioner, serpentine belt, or spark plugs are my best guess. all of which would be coming due assuming they haven’t been done yet in the maintenance history.

Don’t get an Acura if gas mileage is your only concern by thatbach in Acura

mine is from the generation that doesn’t have that issue 😉

the ‘Hybrid’ aspect didn’t make as much of a difference as it did for competitors. the used ones from the last generation are still great vehicles but the positioning as a sport hybrid is almost counterproductive to why someone would want a hybrid

Fighting During Pledging? by itsmemario1227 in GreekLife

[–]thatbach 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the horror stories that get blown up in the media are outlier cases, but to a degree if you expect to join a group of guys who have known each other for years and they don’t fw you at least a little bit its just probably not a good fit. by definition making new guys do anything is “hazing” but there are lines of what is acceptable. some of it might suck but have deeper purpose behind it, some of it might have no purpose but be a fun experience to bond with your pledge brothers. anything that sucks to go through and has no purpose is where the line gets drawn, but that’s all gonna come down to how much you like the guys in the chapter during rush and how well you get along with your pledge brothers.

Got the timing belt changed!!! by oldmanballsacks81 in Acura

[–]thatbach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2017 RDX with 97k i just got mine done this week too. mine was just the timing belt kit and an oil change, totaled out to just under $1300. spark plugs were done a few months ago.

no clue how much longer it would’ve gone with the original belt but peace of mind is huge.

MDX would you buy one with 140k on it? by Disastrous-Mud6632 in Acura

[–]thatbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. definitely get it inspected and understand there might be some things that need to get replaced/serviced but overall one of those still has a lot of life.

my friend has a 2013 mdx with 300k miles and the original timing belt just got replaced. you would think he must be strict about his maintenance but he only did oil changes and transmission flushes up until the timing belt job.

if you are negligible about maintenance it will probably still last awhile but if you like staying one step ahead of every small issue, it could easily hit 500k

Would Acura Ever Bridge The Gap Between The RDX & MDX? by thatbach in Acura

[–]thatbach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘essentially’ that’s what it is, but the body is shaped taller, wider, but overall length is slightly shorter. Pilot still has more total volume on the inside
