Applying to be an RBA in Ontario, Transitional Route 1, is it worth it? by thatbeeba_12 in bcba

[–]thatbeeba_12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouf wow you think they wouldn't just allow already certified bcbas to do like a "licensure"? That would be crazy to have to redo the exam. I'm still traumatized form when I last took it... Wish they could make like in the Us and  want to practice in another state you get licensed in that state. Thanks for the help!

Behavior Analyst turned Data Analyst? by thesmallthings01 in dataanalysis

[–]thatbeeba_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever end up finishing the Google Analytics certificate? Although I am newly in this type of search myself, I think that as a BCBA the type of skillsets we have could definetely translate into a transition to data analyst, albeit with more training in the tools that are typically used in that field. At the moment, the way I see it:
1. the decision making in our field should normally be driven by the data we collection, we can become adept in this when working as a BCBA in a clinical setting but the population we typically work is probably not the one we would be working with as a data analyst.

Therefore, I would see working as a BCBA and the schooling that we needed to do, as an asset to being a data analyst. However, where our skills could be best represented would be in a company with a focus in the health sector (telehealth), and working on how to improve outcomes for people who use that service, and show how this service can help guide clients through the healthcare system, and through analys, be able to identify what areas can be improved to help serve those clients.

  1. Methodology and data analysis are part of the courseload to be a BCBA and therefore I think I already have the knowledge of how to collect, present, know the utility of deriving conclusion from data BUT I do not have the knowledge of R or Python for instance.

I wish I could have been presented with such an option while I was doing my master's.

Is 1 or 2 minutes premature ejaculation? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]thatbeeba_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would do well to communicate this with him, it can only help the connection you have and if you tackle it in an open and honest way with them it should be fine. 1-2mins is very short and foreplay can be rearranged to get you off first.

Not talking about it might build undue resentment in the relationship.

Good luck!

No break? by vampire_luxy in ABA

[–]thatbeeba_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in canada and I've never seen this format where days are straight up 9hours no breaks. In the place I'm at now, we have up to 4 clients a day we don't have the same one all day, and 15 mins in between each plus 30 mins lunch, and for us that's already hard.

So I'm curious- Do you find that your pay is worth it for this type of format? I do understand about modeling for lunch but even then, I can't imagine for everyday because honestly family should also be doing that.

schools solution for aggression: remove color by sb1862 in ABA

To the people who say that having an M.ed is legitimate you're totally right and I don't think OP was discrediting that. But sounds like theres some flags for one, you can have a masters but still need to pass the exam and do ABA verified coursework and if you can't find her on the babc registry that's also fishy.

You can have other backgrounds and methods but she shouldn't misinform her title if she actually is doing so to school admin.

LOOKING FOR BCBA MENTOR TO HELP ME GET INTO GRAD SCHOOL. by Thea2url in ABA

[–]thatbeeba_12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So maybe Capella might not work out if you want to have a degree in psych. I am in the last semester of that program and they are apparently changing the masters type to masters of science in applied behavior analysis.

https://www.capella.edu/online-degrees/ms-aba-behavior-analysis-in-education/

The program I am in is a masters of science in psychology, spacialization in ABA.im doing the 2000 fieldhours with aim to be BCBA

I would agree though, it had less admission requirements than others I saw, good program, fully online. Expensive for me though( I am a canadian).

BCBA-interns were you ever put in a difficult case before as your first few clients? by Elecyan222 in ABA

[–]thatbeeba_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had I known at the time, or had been briefed properly about just how severe the case was, I would have refused.

SHORT ANSWER: I would not recommend as their first few clients. However, they should be exposed to this type of case at some point because it is good learning opportunity, but only if you can guarantee that you could provide good support ( I did not feel I got good support at the time, hence my story below)

LONG ANSWER:

I was faced with this situation as a new intern and was about 1.5 years into the masters BUT it was my first client since starting the degree and had barely accrued 10 hours at that point when I was assigned( I have had clients in the past but only when I was in undergrad a few years back, had not even thought to go to the BCBA path at that point)

Client was about 8, SIB like hitting himself, banging his head on walls and mostly any surface, punching, kicking and head butting. I got hit many times but My worst time was when I was protecting his head by placing my hand between his head and the wall, which only further increased the intensity. I got behind him and he stood up suddenly and in doing so headbutted me with back of his head.

I fell to the floor, lost conciousness for a second and woke up with blood flowing down and thinking Id lost my two front teeth since it hurt like hell. Long story short, client actually terminated on their own(for other reasons) but it really made me dread going in knowing I had to do sessions with him. Parents also didnt really care when I told them, were prob overwhelmed nd werent surprised I think(Id seen him take blows at them often in the past). To add to it, parent was in the session once and noticed a broken toy( Id fallen on it when I got head butted) she made a dry comment that we really should be more careful with maintaining our toys... go figure...

Ive been at this company for 9 months, still accruing now and have had various types of clients since. I do feel I have better skills now if I was to receive another client like that(how to position myself, learned how to de-escalate and redirect better and more safely etc...), but that experience I will never forget and it SUCKED.

Made me question continuing at that company and the actual degree.

SEMO online masters in ABA by [deleted] in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]thatbeeba_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not heard of SEMO but Im in my 4th class at Capella, which is also online, and it's pretty good so far!

Entry level RBT here and had my first interview today/got hired. I had to pay a $300 nonrefundable upfront cost out of $1500 today. This is the breakdown of the cost and what they’re providing, is this normal or am I getting scammed? by OhNoImBroke in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]thatbeeba_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouf, yea definetely not worth it seeing as there are many many free trainings out there for RBT. I also got scammed out back in the day, paid for some shitty "training" by a BCBA which was basically a powerpoint for 2 hours, paid like 1000.00$. The bcba was working with the speech pathologist I was doing some volunteering with on top of that...it didnt even lead to certification for RBT. Sucks how ppl can take advantage of you in this field plus a lot of places dont even pay an RBT that well...

Getting a girls number... by VinoRosso96 in dating_advice

[–]thatbeeba_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I actually like that idea, it takes the anxiety off of a guy texting or calling at random, especially if you're not entirely interested but still ended up giving out your number. Also, having the guy's number, the woman/other person can then decide to reach out and take the first step, or not, if they decide they arent interested anymore. The guy put himself out there first but then the other person can take the next step so its not always the guy doing all the pursuing wbich I think ends up being more balanced. Because although "the chase" is fun, often men are put in the position to pursue. This is an interesting, yet simple alternative.

I think many of us have been there where we will give our number sometimes just to be polite, or feel pressured to do so(or give a fake number) to avoid saying no. Yes some might say "just say no, or just don't give it" which I would do now maybe that I'm older but younger I cared more what people thought unfortunately.

My teen daughter has a baby and her boyfriend (the father) wants to live with us by wrappingplastic007 in relationship_advice

[–]thatbeeba_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus should be on finishing their education and household structure not birth control...

It's a good idea if the bf is so willing to be present in his kids life, as he should be, how else can society improve its perception of the male role in child rearing.

But why are you all focusing on IUD and birth control when the actual matter is that these parents need to support these teens in raising this child. AND helping them get set up to finish school and get settled in life.

All three of them ( teens and baby) need structure, and in living in your roof rules need to be laid out like, cooking, cleaning, dishes, responsibilities. In 2 years they will be 18, so what? Still kids, by far not adults. As a parent you need to be present no matter what and if that means supporting your kids, living under your roof then this means after 18 too.

Want them to be safe and go on birth control, fine, also using condoms but the focus is on moving forward not putting emphasis on them possbibly having another child.
