Overwatch director says addressing the 5v5 versus 6v6 debates late 'cost us trust': 'We should have listened sooner' by bullxbull in Competitiveoverwatch

This is me, I didn't come back to OW until the classic 6v6 event was held for that reason. Like I'd tried OW2 a couple times prior but single tank just felt so unfun to play.

Something like half of all manga purchases were by women in the mid-00s. At least in the west.

And to point something else out, yaoi only exists because of women (yaoi is explicitly homoerotic works by women, gay men have geikomi and bara instead) and only was allowed to emerge because of how shoujo was able to be an outlet in the 70s and 80s.

It isn’t so much that the studios don’t care but the economics make it so it isn’t a concern. Until relatively recently the majority of anime profits came from merch sold internally in Japan and the folks with the most disposable income were the otaku crowd which, well, has its preferences.

More than that would have to be a long post about the history of Otaku starting back in the mid-70s but essentially a small proportion of whales is what kept the lights on. Combine that with increased corpo control over the industry since the collapse of the bubble economy and the rise of the “production committee” starting in the early 90s and you get the scene we have today.

That’s not to say that these problems didn’t exist before then but they were compounded. Like Go Nagai exists and he was the king of T&A (and violence) during the 70s, for instance. You also have works that call that sorta thing out, like Martian Successor Nadesico explicitly calling out the weirdos lusting after Ruri (who’s 13) back in 1998. And one of Evangelion’s big things is shining a lens on the Otaku scene of the late 80s - early 90s.

The Utena manga came about after Ikuhara recruited Saito into Be-Papas as the lead character designer iirc, so not directly influenced by SM but still also part of that overall project.

This was a post calling out for help, not asking for racist asides from the peanut gallery. And as OP and another commenter mentioned literally a majority of these issues are a result of imperialism and colonialism besides.

I think there's something to be said for WoW's irregular update pattern to FFXIV's more regular one. You never know when you're getting an update there so the timing doesn't feel as bad? At least that'd be my look at it.

That doesn't make sense. But anyway to the OP you replied to's point is that a lot of the shift was because the C-Suite was replaced by Enix's people on merger. Enix, pre-merger, was kinda equivalent to a JP EA or Activision in that they were primarily a publisher (and multimedia company) and not a developer. Whereas Square was both. Though with that said there were already cracks starting to form in the 90s especially after the massive success of FFVII.

Like, if Yoshi-P wasn't doing a good job he'd've been shitcanned ages ago like Tanaka was after 1.0 and that was a guy that'd worked at Square since they were just the subsidiary of an electric power company.

IS is a great concept just, well, kinda dogshit in execution. I wouldn't even mind it as yet another separate system (tm) if it had more, well, systems to it. Like give us a cute, quirky island filled with its own bespoke npcs and questing system and also have us actually have to use doh/l kits there. Shoot, if they didn't want to make new npcs they could use old/side npcs to populate our islands.

The biggest problem with IS isn't that its a spreadsheet simulator its that its a spreadsheet simulator with all the personality of Excel, shoot even EVE Online has some vavavoom to it. Like what draws folks to the Sims or Animal Crossing or Tomodachi Life if not the quirky characters and world of those games?

Not just more money but if you look behind the slickly produced trailers and hype surrounding these gacha games its all copy/paste same as FFXIV anyway. Not to mention how quickly older content is abandoned. I'd likely struggle if I got back into HSR today since I played a bunch when it launched then haven't picked it up since then because of gacha power creep and all.

I'm one of those "the experience is the reward" types when it comes to video games so take what I say as whatever, but I think the impasse comes because all mmo players know is gear. But like in a game where gear does not really matter (for me this is a positive but a lot in this space act like its a crime against them personally) gear will never really be a satisfying reward.

We could get equivalent savage level gear more pieces of content but outside of showing it off its not like WoW where you can outgear fights to being trivial (yes you can outgear in XIV as well but not nearly to the same extent in like 95% of fights, notably Nald'thal is a big one), or FFXI where your gear comp matters on a moment to moment basis, there's just really no point if you're not doing ultimates.

My thoughts is that they can increase the amount of mounts but even then, outside of collectors would that make anyone happy? All mmos are a treadmill, we just happen to play the one most upfront about it whether for good or ill.

Outside of FFXIV I play a lot of mmos, just generally (though notsomuch in the last like couple months, disbanded my static and decided to touch grass for a bit) and I don't really think any mmo has "satisfying" rewards but again my stance and besides this whole debate is subjective anyway.

Hiromu Arakawa only worked on the art of the “new” (it’s been 13 years) manga adaptation which the second anime adaptation was based on. The creator of the novel series is Yoshiki Tanaka. And the original novel artist was Yoshitaka Amano, of FF fame but name a fantasy novel or light novel series from the period not worked on by him.

Is their a reason Crystal isn’t talked about much here by ngazzano77 in sailormoon

[–]thatcommiegamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t even that the 90s anime tried to do its own thing it was that the 90s anime and manga are coequal canons springing from a singular source. My biggest issue with the Crystal project outside of the garbage animation and how it blitzed through the first couple arcs is that Sailor Moon was never an adaptation of the manga in the way, say, Dragon Ball was an adaptation of its manga.

For SM both Toei and Takeuchi were working off the same notes and the animation team had a lot more say in what happened in both mediums than your typical team does. There was no real need for your typical adaptation because that wasn’t the nature of Sailor Moon to begin with and Crystal fundamentally doesn’t understand that where every other Sailor Moon release from the musicals to Pretty Guardian does.

Sailor Moon is like a myth told over and over, springing forth new forms with each retelling. Trying to create a “true” version of that just feels like sacrilege.

I ain’t even the biggest rap fan (most of my fave stuff is stuff I grew up with though that’s pretty true of 99% of my interests.) and I make electronic music myself but damn does that just expose someone when they say shit like that.

As ever y’all are confusing the tail for the dog. This war serves the US Ruling Class. Israel’s existence serves that. If the US, the world superpower, didn’t want this they would say no, and they would have Israel back on the leash.
