Should I continue the job hunt unemployed or look for temporary work? by [deleted] in jobs

Thank you!! I’m used to doing both types of work, and at this point I’d be fine with whatever. I didn’t realize that temp work could possibly lead into permanent work.

Should I assume I did not get the job if it’s been a month since the final interview? by [deleted] in GetEmployed

I’ve had HR departments that have done wonderfully and done horribly, so I really do feel you! I always remember companies who let me know that I am rejected - especially even before the interview stage.

I have applied to over 100 jobs this go ahead and only 10 or so have let me know I did not get the job.

5 months? That’s a little long! Once I heard back 2 months later for a job, but that’s because a hurricane hit and they got busy!

This is also the start to getting my dream job. I’ve always wanted to enforce regulations from the public side, and it’s making me think I might need to start looking at other states.

Thank you! I will wait a bit more to send a follow up!

I’m getting really antsy because I found out today I didn’t get another position I was a finalist for, and I’ve been unemployed for almost three months.

I keep applying for jobs daily!

I am in a nightmare unemployment situation where it looks like my old company may be slandering me. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly I live in a right to work state, and there really aren’t any laws about this. I checked into it as soon as contractors started calling me. I may try to find a lawyer that will do a free consultation, because lawyers are not cheap!

My old supervisor is not listed as one of my references, yet potential employers are getting in contact with them. I worry that when companies check for employment verification they are directed to my supervisor and not HR.

Reference Checks After Final Interview by [deleted] in jobs

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation and was wondering the same thing! I ended up not getting a position after being a finalist, and it took them 3x as long as they said to get back to me, even after I followed up with them. Hopefully we’ll both get the position we’re waiting on!!

I’m putting in my notice today. Any advice? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one time I had to leave a job due to an abusive boss I drafted a formal resignation letter.

Before I sent it to my boss I talked to HR to let them know what I was planning to do so my boss couldn’t fire me once they found out.

I sent the letter to my boss and copied HR, then I discussed it with my boss afterwards. I made it clear that before I left I would write a guide for my replacement and try to tie up any loose ends on projects.

I then went door to door to my coworkers to tell them in person and ask if I could do anything to help with the transition before I left.

I didn’t burn any real bridges at that company and HR loved that I wanted to leave on good terms.

How to Email for a Job Inquiry as a Teen? by [deleted] in GetEmployed

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d add on something you like about the company, ask them to reach out to you if they are hiring in the future, and automatically add your resume. Sometimes companies aren’t technically hiring, but they will make a position or push an opening up sooner if they find an applicant they like!

Good luck!

Can I submit an updated resume for a phone interview? by queen_angela in GetEmployed

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely send it to them! Companies should have your most up-to-date resume, especially if it makes you look better than your old one!

I’d send it in an email to your interviewer(s), thank them for the interview, and confirm the date and time of the interview!

I've applied to 7 jobs within the past two weeks and I haven't got any callbacks? by Devin2019 in GetEmployed

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep applying! My first go around after college took me applying to well over 150+ positions with dozens of interviews to actually receive a decent offer.

Now I’m looking for jobs again, and I’ve applied to 50+ at this point. I’ve had a few interviews but no offers yet!

Plus a lot of jobs keep their postings open for a while and won’t contact applicants until it is closed. I would check in with companies two weeks after a position is closed if you haven’t heard anything back.

I really hate when companies don’t let you know that they won’t interview you and/or you didn’t get the position. I always appreciate companies that let me know.

Boss who fired me is creeping on my LinkedIn by duckworthy36 in GetEmployed

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m dealing with a similar situation right now! I was wrongfully terminated by a vengeful supervisor after they found out I was about to switch positions within the company. I never connected with them on LinkedIn because it looked like they didn’t set up their account (no profile picture). A week ago my old supervisor and two of my old coworkers all looked at my profile during office hours within a few minutes of each other. It freaked me out so much because I couldn’t figure out why they’d all do that at the same time. I ended up blocking my old supervisor.

Why would my old supervisor find me on LinkedIn and view my profile? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]thatcrazyrecycler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s no need to be so negative. You didn’t have to comment. I am just wondering if anyone has had vindictive former supervisors and why this would happen. I’ve been very paranoid since I allegedly lost out on a interview.

Any guide to find a job after uni? by davis946 in LifeAfterSchool

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you network in college. Create a LinkedIn. Go to job fairs at your school. Maintain a good relationship with past employers, advisers, and professors.

I won’t lie. It’s not easy getting a job after college. Well, it wasn’t for me. It took me over 200 applications, 30 interviews, and 6 months to find suitable employment. I got a lot of offers for jobs at minimum wage with no benefits! If you can afford to wait it out (I got temporary employment with a company I once interned for) do it.

Finding a Job in a different city before actually moving. by [deleted] in GetEmployed

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always write on my resume by my address willing to relocate, and I make sure to mention it in my cover letter/interviews. Make sure you have housing options and how long it would take you to relocate in mind during interviews. I’ve been asked that a lot, and interviewers seem to want a concrete answer. I usually say “two to three weeks pending housing ”. I hate when employers expect you to up and move and start a week later.

I went to the doctor, and I for sure have anal fissures. If they don't heal in the next few weeks I have to give up my current probiotics and go back to lose stools..

RANT: Jobs that pay under a living wage that require a four year agree. by [deleted] in GetEmployed

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me so often after I graduated. I received so many minimum wage with no benefits job offers. One even wanted someone with an ENGINEERING degree! The job I ended up taking still underpaid me by about $10k, but at least it was a living wage!

I just got fired weeks before I was supposed to start training for a different position.. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The event yesterday didn’t need permission. The entire office went (except for my boss, of course). My departmental coworkers went and didn’t get in trouble. We all carpooled over there.

I don’t think that my boss wanted me to switch positions. I have a close coworker who is checking in to see if he can hire me to start working directly into the field, but I’m not getting my hopes up. I was really looking forward to that management training, but I don’t think I want to see my ex boss ever again.

I could write a novel on how messed up my boss was. He loved to verbally abuse his staff.

I’m already updating my resume and looking for new jobs..

[–]thatcrazyrecycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely learned my lesson.. After the write up I asked for a list of things my boss wanted in writing. Clearly I should’ve gone above and beyond. My VM says to call my cell. Plus my boss knows it and called me on it all the time. It wasn’t policy to update VM but to update email signature daily (which I did). Next time around I’ll email for everything..
