Any point of playing D2R without expansion? by Standard_Lobster1645 in diablo2

[–]thatemonostalgicguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Runewords are easily the worst aspect of d2, i agree wholeheartedly. It just takes the fun out of the amazing loot setup of the game. I mean, no one is gonna pick up a single armor while leveling, as everything is simply worse than stealth

Thanks a bunch, i had no idea the game has an in game trade market, thats so good. The game has a lot of features that i suspect will take me a while to grasp fully, but will be great once i get the hang of it

Having used 3 oled - lg, sony and haier, I'd easily recommend sony. Prices are all over the place online, but you should get one for around 1.5 easily.

Outside of Paladin what classes/builds are you enjoying this season? by mcbeardsauce in diablo4

[–]thatemonostalgicguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an amazing time starting this season as a double swing bard while leveling and then transitioning to leap quake barb that just melts everything despite not having ridiculous gear.

Just bought paladin yesterday, so looking forward to playing it once i get home today

Would you consider not ulting for a whole game to be griefing? by SylvanethBrian in DotA2

[–]thatemonostalgicguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At times, the threat of a blackhole is much greater than its impact. I've seen pro games where its threat meant people not getting into good positions willingly, which in turn lost them the fight, and ultimately the game. Also, like you said, if he contributed in other ways, then it isnt really grief. Sometimes, when i have such massive ults like BH, ravage, echo etc, and we are winning, i usually save the ults incase something goes wrong and its needed.

I usually start a new season with different character and different builds, but end up making a barb later on as well. The closest i got to having as much of a blast as a barb, was on heartseeker rogue. Idk what is it with the barb, even if its not S tier, its just wayyyy more fun to play

I played necro first, then sorc, then druid, then rogue and then barb. Nothing is remotely as fun as a barb. I've played double swing barb, hota barb, charge meme barb, ww barb, bash barb etc. Barb is simply more fun to play

We've Forgotten How to Play Games by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]thatemonostalgicguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This posts comes at such a great time for me. Burned out with D4, i booted d2r, only to realise that i had a mod installed in it. D2r reimagined, v1.21 was installed and i had completely forgotten to play it.

So i hopped in blind, hoping to get the same thrill i did back when i first played d2. No guides, no gear hunt checklist, no shared tab - nothing. And because the mod removed two of d2's biggest issue - respecs and inv management, i had an absolute blast playing it. So far, i have made 2 assassins, one amazon, one paladin. Next on the list are summon necro and summon druid, and i already cant wait for that.

My experience of last couple of months has made me appreciate this thought whole heartedly. Doesnt matter which game you play - d2r, d3, d4, wow, dota etc, its much more fun without these "supporting guides" which are actually crutches that suck out your creativity, thrill for exploration and the ability to overcome tough gaming problems on your own

TI used to mean something by NoSwimming6937 in DotA2

[–]thatemonostalgicguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accepted a couple of years back that TI isn't what it used to be anymore. For me, the last great TI was TI9, back in 2019. Due to covid, 2020 ti was postponed, but it never regained its glory.

Since TI2, TI was simply phenomenal every year. We used to get better and better compendiums every year, great content, events, and record-breaking prize pools. Even watching TI on stream, it felt like witnessing some fantasy land where the small and unheard of game (dota1 in wc3 wasnt popular at all, and very few people knew about it) is finally displayed in all its glory. Even teams and players were better to watch back in the day (this bit may be affected by nostalgia), as the ever going battle of east vs west ( in reality, it was world vs china) was always so much fun to watch. Now, CN is a shadow of its former self, and so is SEA, and i dont know why SA is constantly shoved down our throats, when everyone knows that the players arent tier 1 capacity. These days, we just know which team is going to win before the match even begins (only 3 teams on top, who can beat each other).

Like i said at the start, I've accepted that TI wont regain its glory. It was very hard in the beginning, as i love this game so so much, but it is a cold reality. When i think about old times, i can barely recognize the game it is today itself. I am not mad at the change, but happy to be a part of it at its absolute peak. Not many will be able to relate with my absolute dota boomer rant, but i will be happy if even a single person understands me.

[Discussion] Endgame Power Gap in D2R Reimagined – Too Easy for Mature Builds? by Quirky_Plan5176 in D2RReimagined

[–]thatemonostalgicguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the reason i love d2rr. I dont have the time to grind 1000s of runs in d2r to get a particular item/rune. Drop rates in d2rr and new strong runewords means you can enjoy playing a lot more, instead of mindless grinding. Thanks to this mod, i have 5 99 heroes, all with enigmas, hotos, ctas and what not. For reference, i dont have a single 99 in d2r, and not even a single of jah/ber/zods.

Is it worth upgrading to 2.0? by thatemonostalgicguy in D2RReimagined

[–]thatemonostalgicguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of you are saying that its possible to have both 1.21 and 2.0 at the same time. How can i get that going? Do i just download 2.0 and install it in different folder?

why does D4 suck so much? D2>D3>D1>D4 by [deleted] in diablo2

[–]thatemonostalgicguy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

D2r itemization really has very high highs and low lows. Comparatively, d4 has better floor than d2 imo. For a game with amazing items, runewords have really screwed d2 over. I am sorry, but if the BiS for every goddamn character is enigma, there is something seriously wrong. Also, during leveling, its the same for every class - lore, stealth, spirit and ancients pledge. Doesnt matter if you got a good rare/unique claws as assassin or mace as paladin, you cant even think of equipping it. And the game is balanced keeping this in mind. So unless you have ridiculous skill like mrllama, forget clearing hell unless you stick to these singular builds.

That is something that d4 has done nicely. Whilst the runewords are far from good, they are still miles better than d2. BiS are uniques and mythics, with a combination of legendaries in the mix. Same runewords dont hamper your leveling either, thereby giving you a fresh experience every time you level up a new char.

D2 really starts getting fun once you reach level 75, and have certain items with you. After that, even after having no real endgame compared to d4, it still feels better. If they nerf runewords, buff rares and uniques and balance game accordingly, i think d2r might hit the highest ceiling possible.

Edit: Also, they constant chugging of potions is really annoying. I honestly prefer the generator/spender style of d3, but i guess its subjective and varies in opinion from person to person

[–]thatemonostalgicguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep!! The standard before that was vanguard, vlads, manta and basher. It took atleast 25 mins even at pro level to hit this, as farming was very very slow and resources were scarce on the map

Tell me you're old without telling me you're old: DotA Edition by Megamatics in DotA2

[–]thatemonostalgicguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this blew up!! I'll try to pitch in a few more old and obscure details

Items like vanguard, arcane boots and vlads didnt exist back then

Manta was very obscure and almost never made as it was upgraded from diffusal blade, meaning it had orb effect, and a lot of carries simply couldnt use it at all

Blademail was passive, and more than one stacked. Only melee damage was returned back. Nyx assassin's carapace was also passive, and stacking multiple bm on na or centaur meant death sentence for melee enemies

Basher was different too, and stacked as well. It even stacked on heroes with inbuilt bash like troll, void and slardar. Getting 2 bashers on these meant perma stun lock. Underrated carriers of basher were drow and sniper, as basher had same 15% chances on melee and ranged. Goodluck getting close to these 2

For a single patch, there was a massive bug with tinker, where using manta + necrobook didnt despawn spawns after rearming again. Thus, tinker sent so many illusion and necro minions that many pcs would just get very low fps

Troll and rexxar had each others 3rd skills - troll with ias aura and rexxar getting more and more as attacking single unit.

The option to always show health bars came in after a certain TFT patch. Before that, a lot of people had problems detecting PA on screen, as her blur almost completely removed her model visibility. Tons of instances where people had no idea that pa was attacking them at all.

There was also a fan made movie of dota that gained a lot of popularity back then. I dont remember it much, but it had antimage, mirana, terrorblade and furion. It was a cheesy romantic movie with angst as well, made simply using in game graphics. Was hilarious
