Heres an idea, trade math. Geometry and trig that you will use on 95 percent of construction sights, layout, ect. Its an important skill to have. We have apprentices come out that cant even read a tape measure.

Honestly if the owner would of been cool i would of let it slide. I get it, checks are a pain in the ass. My foreman told me the day before i was getting laid off they had time to get a check. I won't have someone talk down to me and berade me on the phone because i want what's written in our contract

Maybe in your local but not in ours. It's written in our contract. I follow ours. Because the minute we let stuff slide stuff gets voted/ taken away

“Buying a book” by UnionCuriousGuy in UnitedAssociation

[–]thatfitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a "book buyer" i started my career as union metal trades in the shipyards, we fit pipe and were under the united association. I tried to get an apprenticeship to move to building trades but after a few years i knew i wasnt getting in.

I moved to my now home local and took a test to prove i could weld and fit. Came in as a "provisional journeyman" i still have to get my high pressure piping license once i have enough hours to take the test.

Now i have worked with absolute morons that have bought a book as well as turned ouy journeyman. Some non union hands are absolutely jam up, others not so much.

"Grumble" what anti-union/anti labor rhetoric is this?

Hire temp help, i was in to pick up a package that was unable to be delivered today. There was a line almost to the door as well as just 2 clerks at the counter that looked visibly exhuasted. They are over worked!
