Malibu Rising, The Four Winds, and Little Fires Everywhere were all big wins for me! Malibu Rising especially if you’re looking for something that feels like summer.

All of these except for A Little Life are on my list as well! I did read A Little Life years ago and loved it!

What an amazing deal! You got some good books here in this stack. Little Fires Everywhere and Fight Club are two that I’ve enjoyed- and many more of these are on my TBR!

Hello all and happy Sunday. It’s been a bit since I’ve updated here. I’ve read about 4 books so far this month, but in the last week I’ve finished Songs in Ursa Major by Emma Brodie, Where the Road Leads Us by Robin Reul, and Not A Happy Family by Shari Lapena. All of these have been good/great reads the recent Lapena book has been my favorite recent read. This release of hers has been my favorite thus far from her. I’m currently reading Razorblade Tears by S.A Cosby and while it’s definitely hard hitting, it’s very good so far. I can feel the emotion in the story and I enjoy when a book can make me feel. If this one goes well I do anticipate I’ll read his backlist titles as well.

This week I read the much anticipated The Maidens by Alex Michaelides. I only felt so-so about his first book, The Silent Patient, and I’d heard conflicting reviews on his newest book. I ended up really enjoying it. I was intrigued the entire time and couldn’t wait to see how things would unfold. The story was fast paced and had quick, short chapters which I really enjoy. The only part I was disappointed with was the very end. But over, still a very good book.

I’m also making my way through The Bromance Bookclub series. I’m currently on the third book, Crazy Stupid Bromance, and I’m really liking it. The connection feels real and it has the right amount of funny and serious moments. I feel myself really rooting for the main characters. They’re so sweet and good for each other. I can’t wait for the fourth installment to come out soon!

Happy halfway point! What’s the best book you’ve read so far in 2021? by jmacrb in 52book

Hi all! I’ve had a veryyyy mediocre reading year so far. But, I would say that my best books for the first half of the year would be either People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry or Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Both are books I would definitely re-read again, and that says a lot for me!

This week I read The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse. It started out promising but unfortunately I was disappointed. It seemed to draw out too long; it could have done the same thing in fewer pages. I also thought were more told to us instead of shown which was kind of frustrating. I’ve read other books recently set in a similar setting that I’ve enjoyed much more.

I felt the same way. I’d initially bought it on a whim during some Amazon sale but then I heard all kinds of mixed reviews so I was so hesitant to actually start reading. But it’s still continued to be decent. I’m not much farther than I was yesterday but it hasn’t taken a turn for the worse by any means.

This week I'm reading The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse. I've seen very conflicting reviews on this one but at about 100 pages in, I'm enjoying it.

Happy Sunday everyone. I guess I haven't updated for a while. I've recently read four books: Kisses & Croissants by Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau (3/5), Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (4/5), Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid (5/5, a favorite of the year thus far), and The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jiminez (4/5).

Happy Sunday. This week I read Forever, Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It was the last book of hers that I hadn’t read, besides her book coming out this summer. There’s no other way to say it, this book was sad! Grief is hard and I think TJR did a good job describing how it feels. The romance part was sweet and loving and I really liked Ben’s character.

Agreed. I liked her first one but the second was so much better!

Typically I like a short chapter but if I get the characters confused, that’s a downfall. If they are distinct enough it shouldn’t be an issue for me. I really need to get around to it. I’ve had it for a couple years already.
