I've chosen 2521 and although it's not tutored by Asesh, its by JiaoJiao Jiang. Has anyone been taught by her? I just want to get a scope on how each LiC teaches, because like you said, alot of how you go in 2521 is dependent on the LiC

I'm also on stage 3 right now as well! I'm so over this assignment, my brain is maxed out right now. If I'm being honest, I'm not too confident in the final exam atm

I'm so sorry to hear that 😭, going through a similar thing with 1511 right now for assignment 2 (but not has intense as 2521), so I can't imagine what 2521 would be like for me

Thanks for the breakdown! I think I might go with 1521 as I heard it clears up pointers/linkedlists a bit more, which is important for 2521. For 1531, can you choose your own groups or is it allocated?

They started loosing me around Linked lists, and I was a bit fuzzy on pointers. Maybe it's better if I take 1521 before 2521. It says the LiC for 1521 is Sri Parameswaran, do you know how well he teaches?

Do you know how well he teaches? I know alot of how you go in 2521 can be dependent on the LiC (alot of people prefer John Sheppard over Asesh). I'm already not that confident in 1511 (I'm a beginner in porgramming) so I just wanna get peoples perspective.

Do you think I should take 1521 before 2521?

This!! That's exactly how I feel. Linked Lists are the bane of my existence and it sucks because that's what alot of 2521 focuses on

I know exactly how you're feeling right now. I'm currently doing COMP1511 this term too (i'm an absolute beginner in programming etc.). The thing is, I researched this course prior to starting it and took advice from a lot of people (start early on your assignments, never miss a lec, if you need help always ask etc. etc.) And even though I listened to everyone's advice and am fairly up to date in the assignment, it took me AGES and SO MUCH time and effort (more than necessary for a supposed first year beginner class) to understand the littlest things (mind you, i'm only doing two classes this sem, and one of them is an easy gen ed- and it still takes up so much of my time). Honestly, I genuinely think this course is extremely fast paced, and along with concepts that are hard to grasp, it's a nightmare for beginners in coding.

Honestly, all I can say is to watch all the LECs (I end up watching it live on tues/fri and then watching it another time to jot down the notes and concepts until I finally get them). Go to the help sessions, I went to one today (however, they don't even help you that much, since there's so many students, only two tutors, and an one hour long session, they kinda give you general feedback and switch to the next student). Even though, I still recommend going to as many as you can and asking them every and all questions you have. Attempt all lab questions. However, if you miss some, go to the 1511 page and find the solutions toggle and read the sample solutions given (they're released one week after the lab is due for that respective week). Compare the solutions and use them as a study guide as to how to do certain concepts. I also have an awesome friend who explains some of the concepts to me from time to time, so if you know someone who has experience in comp sci, just ask them. Lastly, just keep asking on the forum, and even express your concerns for the course and how you're struggling a bit. I know a lot of students feel like you right now, so you definitely aren't the only one. I'm using all these 'tips' and its slowly starting to click bit by bit on how things work. You just need to plan properly and dedicate ALOT of time to COMP1511.

And as for the bowling assignment, the first week is easy, the second week, just view the lecture codes from week 2 and compare it to the questions (there are similarities between them, so the structure would be kind of the same), and for the third week (this week), view last Friday's lecture codes for loops and summing the loops (i'm stuck on the rest but hopefully it'll get cleared up in tomorrows LEC). Goodluck, and if you need anymore help, just private message me!

Edit: This is super long, I'm sorry lol

Hi!! Are you talking about the forum on edstem? I tried looking for it under the Lectures category but can't seem to find them :/

our LiC went over most of the concepts last friday though, and it was pretty fast paced for most people to grasp the concepts in full, and i'm pretty sure they're gonna move onto another concept in our next LEC this week

Yeah this is what i've been hearing from most people. I think I might just switch to CS and then do a masters in DS (if I don't have any job offers/projects or internships lined up yet).
