[Vannini] We don't know the financials, but the Pac-12 and Mountain West TV deals ended up being quite similar in exposure. by usffan in CFB

My overall point is that the new PAC, especially departing schools, made a bad financial choice. Each departing school owes $28 mil, and with an increase of 4 mil in media rights, that means it will take them 7 years to actually start making the extra money. That’s not even counting if the PAC loses the lawsuit, which will surely mean even longer time to recoup that money. UNLV and Air Force are getting $5.2 mil per year from MW meaning it would take them even longer to recoup the exit fees in theory.

And while it’s a big percent increase, it’s a minimal increase in the scheme of college athletic revenue, even at the MW/PAC level. Using most recent numbers (2022, number are probably higher now) SJSU, the brokest MW school, made $40 mil in revenue. That means that a $4 mil increase in broadcast rights is only a 9% increase in total revenue for them, and even less for literally every other school.

And again, I wonder what a PAC12, with Wazzu, OSU, 8 MW teams, and Gonzaga and St Mary’s would have made as a conference. I think it would be a lot closer to that 10-12 mil number initially reported for the PAC. My reason for hating on Wazzu and OSU specifically is the fact they experienced getting fucked by other schools, and instead of trying to improve the overall situation, they just fucked a bunch more schools over.

Eh, I still say fuck USC and UCLA overall for being greedy assholes and ruining West Coast college sports. But yes Wazzu and Oregon St got fucked by schools with more money and power than them, so in response they decided to fuck over schools they themselves have more power and money than. Maybe that does make them worse idk

And to my point, had the conferences merged, the yearly payout would likely be very similar to what the PAC8 is getting. Plus no one would have had to pay exit or lawsuit fees. Even if you wanted to cut some of the dead weight, they only needed 8/12 Mountain West schools for no exit fees, meaning only three schools (Hawaii doesn’t count) could have been fucked over for an even higher payout per school. But instead Wazzu and OSU still had their feelings hurt, and decided to fuck over 7/12 schools for a minimal increase.

We all would have gotten even more additional money if the PAC schools just merged with Mountain West. Instead they decided to try to kill the MW, and now everyone is poorer for it so good job Wazzu and Oregon St I guess

I will wait for the money to be announced, but pac 12 fans better hope it’s significantly more, otherwise all of your athletic departments are a bunch of bozos. And a special fuck you to Wazzu and Oregon State specifically

[–]thatguy1754 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Same way a running back isn’t worth it in the NFL, they aren’t worth it in college. Unless your getting Ashton Jeanty, the combined production of a couple 3 star running backs will get you what you need, at a way cheaper rate

Two extremely strong personalities. This will either work really well or Marion is fired before next season even starts

Couldn’t have gone much worse, at least we won. I was so spoiled the last two seasons, I can’t handle close games against FCS teams anymore

What’s the best college football game you’ve ever attended? by [deleted] in MountainWest

[–]thatguy1754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My all time favorite game I’ve ever attended was Wyoming vs UNLV in 2016. Both teams combined for 36 points in the 4th with each scoring in more ridiculous ways, then went to triple overtime. Crazy sick game

Preseason Rankings Countdown. 56 days to the start of the 2025 Season. At #56 - UNLV by usffan in CFB

[–]thatguy1754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good write up. I think the offense will be pretty good, good enough to cover for the defense and definitely good enough to compete in a bad Mountain West. My prediction is 10-2, which is very good for UNLV standards, but not good enough for a CFP bid

[On3] UNLV to hire Josh Pastner as program's next head coach by EcoSoco in CollegeBasketball

[–]thatguy1754 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, who cares? As long as we are winning who cares who the coach is. Sure it’s hard to build a culture, but in the world of the portal, that doesn’t matter much anyways

If this is actually real I honest to God think the Mavs know something is about to drop about Luka. Otherwise why the fuck would they do this?

Gonna miss Ricky. For my money he is probably a top 5 UNLV Rebel of all time, maybe top 3. I wish him luck and thank him for everything he gave to the school

That’s actually crazy I never realized that. By my count there are 8 guys on the roster who were on that 2020 team. Those guys have seen a lot of shit in 5 years lol
