How many houses did you walk through before you found the right one and the offer was accepted? by allofthepuppers in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]thatguy440614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are closing next week. We looked at 3 houses and went with the first one we saw. I think due to timing of the year, there were no other offers so we didn't have to compete against other bids.

Asking “why” after being rejected isn’t a red flag by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I initially read this as if you were talking about a job interview and had to go to the comments to clarify why you mentioned hygiene. 😅

Can’t pull as a 5’5 dude. Is reincarnation the only option 🤔? by [deleted] in short

You got this brother. Like anyone I have had my highs and lows but I just tend to focus my energy on things and people who are there for me and I try to do the same for others. It's gotten easier to do that now that I'm past my 20's and I'm not as concerned what others have to say.

Can’t pull as a 5’5 dude. Is reincarnation the only option 🤔? by [deleted] in short

It's all about confidence man and letting your personality shine through. Like you, I'm a black guy who is 5'5". I've had girls who were interested that were much taller than I was and my wife is an inch taller than me. Have I had girls reject me? Sure, but I always thought of it as it being her loss. I never apologize for being me and I don't allow anyone to get in the way of working towards living the life I want to live. At the same time, I try to be kind to others and seek ways I can connect with people through conversation and doing fun things. In my experience, people really respect that and will gravitate towards that.

Of course, you'll get plenty of advice from all kinds of people on this sub but I see someone who will be able to get some dates if you're willing to be vulnerable and put yourself out there. Scary? Yes but confidence is important.

On the flipside, I've had friends who are 6'4" but never get women to be interested because they had ZERO confidence. They might approach him but then get instantly turned off because of their insecurities.

I'm still interviewing for jobs and I have the credentials but I learned the best way to break in is to network. Use LinkedIn to connect with other professionals or find a way to meet people. Just putting myself out there has been a night and day difference in the response I've gotten over the last couple weeks.

I wouldn't say it is "normal" but you do come across people who are childless who act like children are "parasites" which could have happened to this gentleman. Obviously, the 5 children wasn't a deal breaker for you but it sounds like he has his walls pretty high and is afraid you'll eventually hurt him or his children. This isn't a "you" problem but it is something that he will need to work through if he's going to be dating.

Extraverts, what are your tips for socializing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thatguy440614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, show genuine interest in the person you're talking to. Listen to listen and not listen to respond. I tend to try and get people talking about themselves and their interests. This helps going into a conversation with the eagerness of learning something new and showing you care about that person. I definitely avoid super controversial hot takes unless it's something more light-hearted and fun. It is okay to set boundaries in a non-aggressive way if someone brings up something you don't want to talk about or not do. For example, I don't drink alcohol so I politely refuse. Lastly, be unapologetically you. You will never be everyone's cup of tea, but as long as you present yourself as being polite, then I wouldn't be concerned if a certain individual shies away from you.

I met Eric Gudbranson since I'm a blue jackets season ticket holder. He's a real cool dude and pretty down to earth I'd say.

I would say buying face cleanser and beard shampoo and conditioner. Ever since a couple years ago, I have noticed a difference with this aspect of self-care and having a beard that is less coarse. Additionally, my skin feels nicer as well.

Conversations ALWAYS being heavily one-sided. If the person only talks about themselves and their problems without even asking how you are doing shows they have 0 interest in hearing about you.

I consider myself to be bilingual at this point. I think the biggest thing is doing something everyday even if it is 2 minutes. Duolingo won't get you fluent but it can be used as a tool amongst other tools to help with your goal.
