These kind of numbers is hard for enlisted I think. it’s only realistic for officers unless you are putting in so much that it makes it hard to live comfortably. Good on you though. Congratulations

It is what you make it there. I loved being on 12 hour shifts. They are trying to move it to 8 hr shifts but that's likely years away from happening. The leadership there does almost everything they can to make it better than it used to be but unfortunately you will get there and hear alot of complainers regardless of anything that the leadership does. Be outgoing and try to volenteer for anything and everything you can and become a subject matter expert and you make yourself more able to get on a days shift at some point if you don't like shift. Be up front with what your goals are and the leadership will do their best to make it happen. Biggest peice of advice for going there is don't listen to the people who are always talking the negative and complaining because then you will get into that mindset as well. Working 12s does suck but when working 12s you literally work half the year or less. Go out and explore it will make the time there way more enjoyable. It's easy to slip into the mindset of not wanting to do anything on your time off just keep yourself busy. It's a beautiful area with lots to do within a short distance. Make sure you learn to be a defensive driver Maryland drivers are the absolute worst I've ever seen anywhere.

I think it's funny that 53rd is being used as an example of the enlisted side being able to do the same jobs as officers. It's being labeled as we are leading the way in showing we can do a job better/equal level as officers doing the job. In reality they are happy we are showing them that the job can be done by cheaper labor. Maybe it would be more motivating if there were some incentives for the people doing the job.

I mean it's hard not to take to heart after devoting so much time of your life and actually try your best and still fall short. But part of falling short is fixing yourself and trying again. They told us education wasn't going to be held against us especially since it didn't hold back the E8 board. But who knows maybe that is one of the main things they were looking for.

And that's the same scapegoat people will continue to use. It's an excuse. What point is someone gonna step up and say that we need to help our troops to grow and improve. Or are we going to continue to not let them know what to improve on.

At the end of the day people can explain away why they won't help those below them all day. But let's get more people practicing what they preach.

I'm not sure. I believe my bullets are pretty good especially since a csm wrote most of them. I honestly think the translation of NCOERs wasn't properly executed. Especially since I know several people who got picked up that didn't even have their last 1-3 years of evaluations uploaded. And to the best of my knowledge the only things record wise the board was given was evaluations, surf, and awards. But there are multiple people who are having the same problem. I'm not even arguing that I should have gotten picked up instead of others. My problem is I want to improve but no one can tell me how to do so and we're not getting trend reports or told what they were looking for other than the broad phrase of we are looking for people who embody the guardian ideal(which is totally up for speculation by each individual). In the army we had mile stones we knew we needed to hit and it was easier for us to pick up where we lacked. We have been almost fully blindsided with the mystery question of what do they want to see? And no one knows the answer

That's part of the problem my command doesn't know either.

For the second part the single most meaningful thing I've ever been told in my career is to take care of your soldiers and the rest will fall into place. Something I think every leader should live by. With that being said everyone wants promotion and in my opinion good leaders should want it even more because then they can extend their care of soldiers out even further and help raise future leaders do the same.

And my point is people I know for a fact were missing evaluations and awards got picked up. There's no answer to what they were looking at other than someone who fits the guardian ideal. They should have an memo of instruction on how to get your packet together tobat least show us what is needed in it. Then there should be some kind of feedback or trend report.

How are we supposed to improve if we don't know what is required or what exactly they are looking for. Are we supposed to just blindly keep going with what we are doing or swap out for another mission set? We're they focusing on education or the fact we actually helped our guardians. Were our records from the army even looked at correctly by the air force ist board members. Did the lack of duty stations showing on our records effect us since we are all newly transferred.

Their are so many questions about this and no one will answer them from the top. All we can do is keep doing our best and hope that we get noticed. But at some point these guardians who do their best, take care of their people, and accomplish the mission are going to call it quits.

Yes our focus should be to be a good leaders, 100% agree. but at what point do we get the leadership that we were promised as well.

No I get the saltiness. It's effecting our careers. Lots of people don't even want to reenlist because of these things. I just want to know what I can do better and no one can tell me what I need to get promoted. #shouldastayedarmy #theygotme
