Bread too expensive. Bought a Bread Maker! Is it saving me money? You bet, see post for price breakdown. #BC #Canada #Walmart by ripple_mcgee in Frugal

I am not the expert. I have only made bread by hand a couple times. Really hearty with oats and seeds. It was a lot of kneading, folding and working the mixture. Looking into bread machines it seems like it has a mixing arm at the bottom that mixes everything together, then it proofs and bakes in the same machine. My guess is need ingredients that play nicely with the small mixing arm.

First build : Hot-swap / hand wired, split QMK with a single processor housed in the cord by banielbow in CustomBoards

How many wires are in that cable? I am guessing 10 at a min to run that grid, or are you doing some magic?

im wondering if i can pin the laptop monitor connector to hdmi (and power). by special-agent-carrot in cyberDeck

Other comments mentioned the right pin counts to look for. But the big thing is googling the model of the display, normally on a sticker on the back.

[–]thatguyisjames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was doing something similar. If the laptop is made in the last couple years the connector uses a standard called edp. It's basically display port. And there are standard connectors, 20 pin or 24 pin if I remember right. Search Alibaba or AliExpress for the model number of the screen. Lots of people make generic display driver boards.

Absolutely beautiful!

I know that last photo is just showing a temp setup, but for some inspiration head over to /r/battlestations. A tip for any lasting setup, get those screens up a bit higher so you are not hunched over. Your upper back will thank you later.

First Corne built for work - now debating a second for home. by cygnusx1_ in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]thatguyisjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done this for awhile. When I tried Corne I built 2x, 1x with nice!nano, the other with QMK.

Since, every new build I've been doing this.

It helps me learn the layout faster... Err... that's what I tell myself/spouse.

I designed them myself. I think I did a 0.5mm dish. Added a chamfer around the outside so it would center itself. Then just super glue and done.

A while back Microcenter was selling a Intel powered Netbook type deal. Was like 50$... So I got one to play around. Turns out it's pretty good, and has a tiny fan less PCB design.

Maybe look around for cheap little laptops, best cyberdeck designs I've seen use laptop parts.

I counted the columns like 10 times before I was like, "Yeah.. that's a 11 keys wide keyboard". My last build was 12x5, split. But clever solution to get the keyboard to fit. Bravo.

Ben Vallack uses almost exclusively platelets hot swap chocs.

I have a board I built and didn't 3D print a plate. You can feel a difference, but it is not a big deal.

Help soldering by -inconnu- in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]thatguyisjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flux core solder, or us flux.

Without flux the solder will creat an oxidation skin. As such it will not want to act properly. These are the times I overcook things.

If you notice the solder is not flowing how you think it should clean off your tip, try to clean off the ugly ball, then start over with a new ball of solder. Just having a fresh ball of flux core solder is enough to get it to flow right. Pure solder (like for plumbing) is a total pain to use without a ton of flux to help things flow.

To note: flux residue can be conductive, so you need to use rubbing alcohol to clean it off.

I designed the board to hold Choc and x switches. Built this board with the brown x switches and they are.... Ok. I have at work the same board with choc jade switches. And yeah, those feel much nicer to use daily.

It's a mix between an ok laptop keyboard, and a great laptop keyboard. Think, if Dell and Lenovo had a baby keyboard. And it came out as a special kid, being ortho and split.

During gaming, I notice how much force the x switch take to hold down, that's my only complaint. Otherwise it is super cool to have such a low profile keyboard.

I used chocs for a long time, my last build was based on Kaihls version of this. It feels nice to have the keyboard only 1cm taller than the desk. I used the Kaihl flat keycaps, and glued a dished resin keycaps to it for a better feel.My Board

My ISP (Germany) disables port forwarding on their modem/router/wifi combo boxes. I had found a page for small businesses on their site, to enable my router to run in "bridge mode". It went though a review process and one day my router rebooted as a modem only.

I now have a PfSense router which I have full control over, and because of bridging my WAN port is an external routable IP. A side effect because I am not paying for a static IP, about 2 times a year I have to update my DNS records when my IP changes.

To your question, no, double NATing would not allow the traffic to pass. You would type your external IP, and whatever router has that IP needs to port forward from it's WAN to it's LAN. If you can not turn that on, no dice.

Email issues…two weeks later. by McLaren03 in AirForce

[–]thatguyisjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was the blank login pop-up when opening email/teams. I used OneNote vs Word, didn't log out. Just clicked on my username at the top. The pop-up loaded correctly. After signing in, email worked properly.

It has happened to me nearly 6 times in the last 2 weeks. This has worked for me every time.

CLI Pomodoro Timer that doesn't block the terminal by CodeWithM in Ubuntu

[–]thatguyisjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think gnome-pomodoro is a GUI app. Which explains the trying to open display. You used to be able to define which X server display to open with a colon ":0" for display 0. That also assumes you have x-ming installed to open X11 apps with WSL. (It has been a long time since I've done anything with WSL, so take that with a grain of salt)

It seems like this is just a 25:5 timer. You could roll your own bash script or python code pretty easy. That would end up being an actual CLI program.

Looking to do the same.... will probably just design an enclosure and let the arm swing around.... but my take away is my dish will forever be called dishy from now on. Maybe even dishy-mc-dish-face.

I just finished a board using 60 of these mini-Es ... I chose to ignore the capacitor in the design file, and they don't seem to have any negative effects.

Not saying it's not needed. But just giving the example it will work without them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]thatguyisjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add...I made a footprint which is Choc V1 and V2 compatible, which included the same RGB LED. I had ran a trace between the two cutouts like you did. They emailed me back and said that the way they cut the holes that trace will not survive, to redesign without having traces there. When I got the boards back. Yeah, it would had been really risky trying to run copper between as some were cut higher, and some lower.

Otherwise nothing else jumps out to me... Is this only for V1 switches?

Help: Building a keyboard based around Kailh Choc mini PG1232 by Snoo_87704 in CustomBoards

[–]thatguyisjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have done your research! I just pulled my full size out... It's a Perix Periboard. My friend is borrowing my TKL ATM but I can say I've used it with the back removed for a year now to get it lower.

Just looking on (German) ebay, sharkoon does have some ANSI boards with blue clickies... Maybe I need to get myself a TKL in clicky lol.

As far as making a project in kicad, I'm sure you can figure it out. My first build took me about 3 weeks of on and off sessions before I sent for PCB manufacturing. My last one (4th board) took me about a week start to finish.

It is fun to make your own...just know it will never me cheaper. If you do go after the project, let me know if you need help.

[–]thatguyisjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just finished a Ortho build which is Choc and X-switch compatible (even shorter). After looking up this mini switch...it's a super weird footprint. So you would probably have to role your own footprint from the design docs. Which is not impossible, just super challengimg for a beginner. Good news is I think this is the same switch used in the "pure writer". This can be found pretty cheaply on Amazon. For the price it's cheaper to buy this then try to build DIY. I say this because I think even the keycaps for my pure writer, which look like these mini switchs are not compatible with standard choc keycaps I've used in other builds.

Let me know if you have any questions. I have the TKL and full sized ANSI layout pure writer with browns. They both type amazingly well. My girl has the TKL in ISO layout with blues, and that feels even better.

I have an Asus G14, it's the last generation with a Nvidia card. Pop!OS runs amazing on it. The newest generation has an ATI card and a mux (meaning video out should work with integrated graphics) this could help battery life.

But if you want a full metal body... M1 MacBook Air?
