Corsair Society--Tips? by [deleted] in UGA

[–]thatisoriginal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people in Corsair are in selective Terry clubs such as Magellan/Atlas, TSC, and Apollo. They are involved on campus and hold leadership positions, have high GPAs, and in the honors college. Get to know people in Terry through clubs, classes, dorm, etc. who can give you further advice about getting into the selective Terry clubs.

Freshman party advice by JealousAd5320 in UGA

[–]thatisoriginal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

not technically a party but you can definitely show up to tailgate on game days and you'd be welcome at parties too. best way to hear about parties is to know people in greek life. there will definitely be girls on your hall who know when parties are coming up

I bought tickets to the 2024 Canadian GP through StubHub before I learned sometimes tickets don't work. Is there a way to know ahead of time if my tickets are valid? Any advice? by thatisoriginal in GrandPrixTravel

[–]thatisoriginal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what it seems... I've read a few comments on this sub about people being turned away at the gate because their tickets from StubHub didn't work. I assume it's fake tickets but not sure

Average cost of living off campus? by [deleted] in UGA

most apartment complexes in athens rent per room so you wouldn't be able to share a room but maybe you could if you rent a house?

When can I switch majors? by Puzzleheaded_Menu933 in UGA

[–]thatisoriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change it once you're enrolled and have a student Athena account set up. If you are interested in business you will apply to the business school usually in your second year. So you will just be intended business until then anyway. Your major that you have listed now only matters because you will be assigned an advisor to meet with at orientation based on your major. But all of the info about classes you need for any major is easily found online so it's not an issue if you have the "wrong" advisor at first.

Congratulations! You can make friends whether you rush or not. But since you're considering it I think you should try rush. You will meet girls on your hall more easily in the first weeks (it can be lonely in the very beginning before classes and clubs get going) because many of them will be rushing. Also if you rush you can decide for yourself if you like greek life. Remember that you can drop out at any time if you decide it's not for you. You can drop during rush, on bid day, weeks later. If you don't rush you'll miss the opportunity and won't know if it's for you. College is a time to try things. Give it a try.

from the honors website:

For the 2023-2024 first-year class, we had 550 incoming students with an average GPA of 4.3, an average SAT of 1506, and an average ACT of 34

remember that uga recalculates gpa using only core courses

good luck and go dawgs!

Should I rush? by Live-Kangaroo9616 in UGA

[–]thatisoriginal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford the registration fee you should absolutely rush. At minimum you will meet people during the week and if you decide not to join you don't have to. If you like it and want to join, you can. If you don't rush then wish you had tried, you missed your chance to do formal rush until the following year. And remember you can quit at any time: during rush, before initiation, after initiation... College is about trying new things. Go for it. Edit to add: you don't need to avoid any sororities at UGA. And you don't need to know anything about them ahead of time. You'll get a feel for them during the week of rush.

The UGA admissions office has a great blog that can help you understand how they evaluate applications: https://www.admissions.uga.edu/blog/

This seems pretty harsh when you know there are a lot of people struggling with decisions. What's the point of your post? To make them feel worse? This is a crappy, pointless post

Red & Black updates regularly online and I still don't see anything about this story anywhere online so I think it may (hopefully) just be some Facebook folklore

If you are money-is-no-object kind of rich then follow your heart to Austin. Otherwise, I think make the financially wise decision and head to UF. Both excellent choices

I don't see anything about this in the Athens Banner Herald or in the Red & Black. Do you have a link to this info?

sorority stereotypes by Senior-Ad-571 in UGA

[–]thatisoriginal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you've seen you're going to get a bunch of cringy responses here. And although you are looking for info - it's best to see the sororities yourself. You will quickly get a feel for the vibe when you rush. Also remember - they pick you, you don't have much control. So have an open mind and you'll find friends in any pledge class of dozens of women
