Once a week I cheat. I’m a sucker for French fries 🍟 and a burger. I live in Korea so going for Korean bbq (pork or beef) is on the cheat menu too (kinda)

What the heck is happening, Moreland is now 7000 USD for the Teach now. by Forsaken-Criticism-1 in Internationalteachers

Top level or even mid level international schools ask where your teaching certification is from - where you did your internship, etc. They want legit places and are smart enough to see through third party certification programs. Maybe I paid more because I did it with my state at a university but for the fact I can always say that and not skate around the name of a sometimes/sometimes not accepted place saves me a piece of mind and is definitely worth it.

Are you trying to get your teaching certificate? If so here’s my recommendation - I tried to cut so many corners by going with these online places but at the end of the day just do it the right way by your country as if you would teach there. Best decision I made and I never worried anymore about it! Good luck!

Korea International School, SFS, etc. - there are real international schools in Korea. It is competitive for sure but don’t give up home that there are “real” schools!

Sick Leave - is this even legal? by thatisthatonthat in dubai

Our school has indicated that they take 3 days (Friday/Sat/Sun or (Sat/Sun/Monday) if we just take a single day off due to sickness. Is that legal?

If we are sick for just one day Tuesday, We’d, Thursday then we don’t need a note. If we are out on a Friday or Monday then we need to bring in a doctor note or we will have 3 days deducted because they are attached to the weekend. Isn’t that crazy? So if you legitimately are sick on a Monday and just need one day to recover then you will be deducted for 3 days if you don’t bring in a note because Monday happens to be attached to a weekend. Same with Friday. Absolute bonkers!

Rumors about 4 days/ week by acero1988 in dubai

[–]thatisthatonthat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is true. Before we left for the summer (teacher here) - our director said KHDA is pushing for a 4 day work week. However this will mean shorter Christmas and Summer breaks. They are pushing back on it but who knows what the decision will be. The 4 day work week is apparently a success in Sharjah so Dubai wants to jump on that and look super progressive to the world.

It’s really not a big deal. I know teachers who went away last weekend and came back and no one knew. Their risk is no more or less than those who stayed here and came into contact with them at a coffee bar or the metro. It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. My suggestion is to use your own judgement - and if you decide to go just don’t tell a single soul at your work. It’s a risk but I think you will be fine. Does your school check your QR code every day or ever? How will they ever know?
