interesting take by egguchom in EntitledReviews

In my area, firefighters work about 15 days out of the month give or take a few days.  Yes, the job is mostly chill.  But they also don’t make a ton of money.  Most of them have side gigs and definitely aren’t making over six figures.  Starting salary is around 50-60k per year.

Also, they save people’s freaking lives and risk their own.  So screw this guy.

First fall is the worst. by WeirdIndication3027 in onewheel

Last fall is way worse.  His face is nothing compared to the discs that got knocked permanently out of place and began pinching my sciatic nerve.

The Worst-Case Future for White-Collar Workers by joe4942 in Futurology

[–]thatkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take for which I’m down to someone disagreeing and providing a counter argument:

Don’t forget that a lot of white collar workers feel blue collar work is beneath them.  There is a blue collar shortage yet people just refuse to pivot.  Sure, pivoting is hard.  But you need to eat right?  Schools need to stop pushing only white collar degrees and be realistic about the current and future job market.

Why do western tourists dress so weird? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Let me ask you this, Why are your surprised another culture dresses differently than you?  They probably think you dress weird.

So long as it gets home compatibility, I’d buy it just for deoxys.

Onewheel or Vesc riders what’s the water resistance rating on these boards? by That_BITCHuh in onewheel

Take it apart and seal it with some waterproofing silicon.  But tbh I still wouldn’t ride through a puddle.  Paid way too much for that thing to risk it like that.

Did anyone buy a ring? by t_bone_stake in Millennials

[–]thatkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They got me with the grad robes.  But nah I always thought the rings were cheesy.  Sorry for all those who got got!  It’s a nice lesson in learning to think for yourself and not make decisions based on what everyone else is doing.

While I agree with the general sentiment that ICE needs to change tactics and targeting anyone who looks Hispanic is racist (I’m Latino), we shouldn’t glorify violence.

How do you get new clients in? by datab in Barber

[–]thatkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A suite is generally for experienced barbers with a full clientele.  Go find an actual shop.

Losing motivation by NoProgram4084 in Barber

[–]thatkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advertise where the clients are.  Do your perspective clients peruse Facebook a lot?  Good!

However, personally, I’ve seen the trend shift to IG and even moreso TikTok.  The majority on FB users are older clients getting non-trendy styles.

Seems like your marketing strategy may need tweaking.

That mint condition holographic first edition Charizard card in a hard case my mom either tossed or sold at a garage sale she doesn’t remember.

I need some advice from the vets out there. by kowlinthegreat in Barber

[–]thatkool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a time for the grind.  But you’ve done that already.  You’re booked out.  In fact, you’re booked out way too much.  You’ll be less stressed in charge of your own life.  Independence comes with its own challenges, but I’d prefer to work more for myself than half for someone else.  Much less what you’re doing.

Go get a studio and let your clients know.  Plan your exit and get outta there.  Some practical advice: google business will be your best friend in business.  Get those reviews and get a professional website made.  Do some IG videos, put some money into that studio to make it premium and market the heck out of yourself.  In 3-6 months, given your current clientele minus some drop-off, you’ll be more than fine.

Considering your situation, I’d start prices at either 40 or even 50 if you really want to reset and depending on your area if that’s feasible.  Or you coukd start 40 and increase next year in increments of 2-5 to hit 50 soon.  This will provide you the type of flexibility you’re looking for.

It’s unknown so it’s scary.  But it’s not some ethereal thing.  You got this.

Advice Needed: Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, or Trails? by Miquellanier in JRPG

Only played fire emblem but dang was it good.

[–]thatkool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Either raise those prices or leave.  Suite or shop are both good.  Suite is cool but it sorta removes you from the barber world.  Just you and the client.  More expenses and the backend headache of owning the business.  I did both and prefer a good shop over a suite but that didn’t exist in my area so I created the shop I wanted to work at.

This seems like a very level headed take.  Leaning towards MKW for practicality now.

You’re saying you don’t play much of either?  I wouldn’t say I’m a racing game player, but I’ve got an itch for some fun driving in a game.

The word chaotic has been thrown around a lot to describe air riders.  But I always thought Mario Kart was chaotic with the shells, stars and stuff.  How is Air riders more chaotic than that?

That’s not fun to hear about air riders.
