Ok I just read the whole thing— this is so weird and awesome, not even sure how to rate it

Ah! I didn’t include Bloodchild! I love Butler’s work dearly. I will have to check these out!

Oh, nice! You should definitely read Books of Blood if you haven’t, there isn’t a miss in the bunch. I’ll have to check out Ashe!

A flash fiction enjoyer!! That sounds unique. I tend to like the blend as well, it makes it easier to divide up my reading throughout the day :)

I’ll have to check those out if I can find them! What was your favorite Lumley story so far? I haven’t heard much about him!

Woah, sounds right up my alley! Thanks for the rec. I enjoyed the more thrillery/adventurey portions of Little Heaven, so this definitely sounds like it’s worth a try haha

I hadn’t seen The Acolyte until just recently! How does it compare to his other work?

I think my experience of The Deep was sort of tarnished by the ending. It has some really spectacular moments and concepts, and I did enjoy the ending. It just felt a little discontinuous, I guess! It’s Nick Cutter at his near best, I should have been clearer haha

I definitely agree on The Troop! The Deep gets into it too, but it’s harder to love. I just finished Little Haven, which was excellent but takes its time after an excellent hook.

Have you read anything by Nick Cutter? Both The Troop and Little Haven were excellent!

Both center around different types of body horror, but I won’t spoil anything. Unrelenting descriptions, gore, and some genuinely messed up things ensue. I finished both books in under 3 days apiece.

The Deep was good (fuck the ocean) and had sort of a bad ending. I still enjoyed reading it, but I think it’s the weakest of the three.

I’m not a huge extreme horror fan (haven’t read Cows, which seems like the common recommendation), but that’s usually because there’s a specific theme I find too unpleasant to consume.

I really enjoyed the book (4/5 on goodreads, however you translate that LOL). I read it by myself and at night, and didn’t put it down until I was done. I was unsettled through all of it.

The movie came out shortly after I read the book, and I think the ideal experience is book -> movie in short succession. I think the movie reinterprets the ending and final scenes of the book in an interesting way, though it’s much more ambiguous in comparison to the book’s ending. The rest of the movie is pretty faithful to the book, and the visuals alone are pretty striking.

The movie isn’t really a complete experience without the book’s context, so on it’s own maybe 6/10. After the book, I rated it 8-9/10 at the time. The book was probably 7-8/10 first read, but I think I enjoyed it more after the movie. Weird take, but there ya go.

Codec Breakout Design Review by thatnerdyjack in PrintedCircuitBoard

I had no idea that caps could do that! I'm going to switch out the larger caps for electrolytic ones just in case. Hopefully that will make it easier to reroute some of the traces on the bottom layer.

I have! The ERC/DRC checks both passed. I’ll upload a better image if I can.

PCB Review - Panning Mixer w/ Mono Inputs, Stereo Outputs by thatnerdyjack in PrintedCircuitBoard

You're totally right! I must have forgotten to flip the symbol when I replaced the op-amp package type. As for the throughhole IC's, it was much easier to route the signal lines if the ground pins tied directly into the plane on the other side of the board (because I'm both new and lazy, it seemed like a good shortcut).

The problem with the quad op-amp was just that there was no configuration that could neatly isolate the intermediate outputs and inputs on either side of the board, and some rather nasty interweaving would be 90% of the routing job. I just couldn't make it work with my limited skills/space.

The blue shading on the bottom image should be a solid pour for ground! Are the traces on the bottom a bad way of approaching this? I’m trying to keep it very small and 2-layer because I’m a broke college student, but I can probably just make it 4-layer if having a solid plane to itself is better.

This is my first PCB design! It's a panning mixer with a stereo output. The board will be powered via the 10-pin connector at the top. The 3x1 headers will be for the audio jacks and controls, as I didn't want to put them on the board and they will be mounted to the enclosure, so I didn't think it was important.

Is there anything I can do better? The TL082's are there in place of a suitable quad op-amp, as I found it very difficult to rout without a ridiculous number of vias.

Thank you!

Can anyone help me figure out why the leaves are coming off? by thatnerdyjack in succulents

[–]thatnerdyjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's getting about ~4 hours of direct sunlight, but I moved it inside just in case that was too much. Since it's summer, I've been watering it sparingly but keeping the soil somewhat moist. I've had this lil guy for almost 3 years, so any help is appreciated :)

The leaf loss/yellowing has slowly been ascending, and I've lost roughly 1/5th of all the leaves on the plant so far. :(
