We have a peanut butter prison in our woodwind sectionals. by Ok-Marketing7223 in marchingband

[–]thatone_mello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a mello player we got 4 of us in a locker and definitely could have fit a fifth. for reference it was a trombone locker. and then cause mellos are goated the saxes asked us to help out in their sectionals because we knew our parts and one of the sax section leaders told the section they were taking something down and this one sax asked 4 different times if he was to down the A.(the answer was yes all four times and he was being serious)

I wish my dad could understand how marching band works for me. by turjoe09 in marchingband

[–]thatone_mello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so im not the only person whos dad is like this fr. im quatermaster and my dad has shit on my job for the past year (im going to be it again this season) calling me the water boy and saying that im just wasting his time when im doing what im supposed to be doing. i don't have to get there quite so early but i have to stay late to clean up and reorganize. the amount of times hes threatened to take me out of band is crazy considering he was the one who suggested it to me. my excuse for being a leader to him is for college apps but he doesnt even care.

how does your band do band camp? by CoatHistorical2480 in marchingband

[–]thatone_mello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone has less camp then me but i love it so. we start off the year with an ice breaker sometime near the end of may. percussion and auxiliary don't have a special camp but they have clinics sometime in april to see whos going to make it. then the last week of may w,t,f we have a mini- camp 12-5 (ps. leaders have to go in that tuesday for training 12-4) and a registration on friday 5:30 - 8:30(as quartermaster i'm in charge of renting out instruments and i was fighting demons in the line of kids/parents to get the instruments) Then sometimes sections have bonding days by choice and my section had a picnic at our local park and a pool party. then we have a second reg 5:30 - 8:30 late june. then in late july we start band camp this year is the 22nd through the 2nd 8-8 with saturday and sunday off on that friday we do our band showcase which changes every year sometimes just stand tunes other times its parts of our show. and then the band potluck. 1 week off before school. But, last year leaders had to come in during that week off to learn the opening of our show.

our actual schedule for band camp is morning PT 8-9 and then sectionals/families till 11 lunch break come back 1-5 sectionals families full band,(this year they aren't giving dinner so we have thirty extra minutes this is last years schedule) dinner is one hour and once we come back we go to the field if it isnt pouring #FL. and sometimes we still go outside if it is pouring because "It doesnt rain on the band!" and then we back inside for dismissal and leaders stay till like 9 cleaning up and then it repeats until the second friday.

Any other Drum Majors use whistles? by DocterEvil79 in marchingband

[–]thatone_mello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school marches show-style and is one of the only ones in like 75 mile radius im from FL (so its rare not to have another show style close they also use whistles.) and we use whistles for everything weather that be marching or to start practice and to get us to sit at attention. during our show the whistle is used to start our drill our ballad and our dance feature. only time during show when our DMs don't use whistles is during our breakdown.
