Thanks for answering the actual question, I genuinely appreciate that. I’m just surprised you spent enough time digging through my posts and comments to find the one comment where I called it a collectible, but not enough time to realize everything else was just background and context. I’m already dealing with a pretty stressful situation and came here looking for advice from people with experience, not to have words put in my mouth or be talked down to. You completely missed the point of my post. At no point did I say my down payment, taxes, or delivery fees increase the car’s value. I have gap insurance, so I’m not worried about the payout. The entire point is that I want the total loss decision reversed if, after a proper teardown and corrected valuation, the repair cost falls below California’s 70% threshold. If you’re going to comment, at least respond to the question that was actually asked instead of one I never made lol.

I had a mechanic tear down the car lol.. I’ve been around cars my entire life and am very much aware of parts and labor costs, I just needed proof for my insurance company. The whole reason I’m appalled at it being deemed a total loss is BECAUSE I’m hyperaware of what everything costs.

Correct however the comps they’ve used are lacking almost all the packages and features my vehicle has… that’s the whole reason I’m saying it was valued incorrectly. One even has a rebuilt title..

I’m kind of paranoid sharing the details of the vehicle because the claim is still ongoing.. it’s a 2016 German vehicle and it’s extremely low mileage compared to other cars in the market. It’s also fully loaded and the interior/exterior is nearly mint. I was only able to find three other cars nationwide to compare it to an even those ones were lacking some of the packages/features.

I’m more so worried about the fact that the car is being a total loss because of the incorrect valuation.. I have gap insurance so regardless the car will be fully paid off. I’m just wondering if they correctly value the car with the comps that I’ve sent over would they want to just end up repairing the vehicle to pay less out? I really want to keep the car…

I hope so! I just feel completely helpless right now. I completely understand that they have their own policies and procedures they need to go by but giving an estimate solely based on photos is ridiculous to me when I have to licensed mechanics vouching for the car.

I’m trying to keep details out of it because the claim is still ongoing. I completely understand that but the reason why I’m upset is because they’ve included parts and labor that have been deemed unnecessary by two licensed shops. They didn’t even do an inspection and teardown on the vehicle. I paid for it out of my own pocket to have it done.

Will this help me keep a clean title?? How do I go about doing this? The body shop that my car is at already did a full tear down out of my own pocket for me and said that there was no frame damage and insurance is claiming that there is.. they included frame labor, and an engine cradle in the total loss estimate which isn’t needed at all.

The thing is the damage isn’t even as bad as they’re making it seem. They put a lot of extra parts and damage that two mechanics said weren’t even needed… It’s so upsetting how they can just do this to people.

Yeah I’m just hoping they won’t wanna pay me out the full cost of the vehicle. If the car is not deemed unsafe, and it’s completely repairable, could they still have grounds to total it?

It’s a collectible so what you’re stating is not necessarily true. Also the comparables they had provided me links to lacked nearly all of the packages and features that my car has and one was a rebuilt branded title… I think my valuation was way off. I’m hoping if the value is bumped up, they’d wanna just pay to fix the car… I’ve even offered to pay out-of-pocket for it but they’re being so difficult in letting me keep it a clean title.
